More of a wreck every race boy.

 ^ True.

After seeing her in the ARCA race, I think she will do just fine. They have a different aero package so they should be bunched tighter together. As long as she drives like she did on Saturday, she will be along for the ride. And Nelson won't be running her in the grass this time , but as Justin said, there is always Steven Wallace. I think the Nationwide race is the best thing for her. Get on a plate track with pretty much the best in the business. Best way to gain experience. IMO.

Anyone think Nelson will finish the truck race Friday? He seemed to have a magnet on his car, which attracted it to everyone around him. For a car not involved with the wall, his car was pretty messed up. Who is guiding him with his Nascar journey? I think he needs someone who knows what they are doing. Like Danica has a good group behind her in Dale Jr, and his group. Maybe it was first time jitters for him who knows, but he sure was involved in a bunch of stuff, unlike Danica.

Well i thought Piquet did okay for the first part of the ARCA race but then it came undone.

For what I know, he is going to have Chad Kenrick as his crew chief, don't know much about him though

So since my last post, Danica will step up to the Major Leagues and give Nationwide a try. NASCAR is (with all due respect to ARCA) much tougher. I wish Danica nothing but the best. This deal will give her extra experience. While the two series are different, I hope she can apply some of her stock car skills to IndyCar.

Why don't we try a little Over/Under here? Danica Patrick at Daytona with NASCAR Nationwide- over or under... 11th Place finish?

Under.

She was able to prove herself in ARCA, but Nationwide is a whole different ball game. She'll have do deal with not only drivers in the Cup, but also with Nationwide Drivers that aren't too bad themselves. Only way to tell is to see the actual race.

I'd say well under 11th.

She should be happy if you she gets a top 20 or finishes the race with the car in one piece.

I think I heard the announcers say hes with the same people that gave Scott Speed his ARCA rides last year. So he has a good group with him. I think he hit everything because hes just not that use to running around other cars but Danica is. His reflexes seemed a bit slow and he wasn't that aware of the cars around him, but that should change with more seat time. Final ARCA practice was washed out and the drivers really didnt have a chance to practice in traffic.

For the truck race it may be best for him to just fall to the back, log laps and learn. I say its up to him and his team if he finishes or not.

I think ARCA is equally tough at a place like Daytona, but for completely different reasons.

One of them being the inexperience in the field. If you watched the race, the first caution did not have to be so bad, but the drivers behind it did not slow down, they pulled a Cole Trickle and went hammer down. It worked out just like it did in Days of Thunder, except without the injuries. Just minor things that even the announcers were picking up on.

However the Nationwide is tough because of the TIGHT packs, they run an aero package and plates designed to keep them bunched tight, and they can't do much lifting, because they will lose momentum, they make less power than the Cup cars and therefore don't have as much wiggle room when they are sucking up. But the experience is there for sure with all the Cup regulars and N-Wide regulars. I think she will have an easier time passing in this race. Maybe she will learn more about bump drafting. I don't expect her to take chances like she did in the ARCA race though. Like when she said "Whatever, there is 3 laps to go, I'm going to try and move forward and see who goes with me." But I saw her bumping on restarts, she gave one car a good shot in the rear, and shes not afraid to rub fenders either. I say top 15 if she does not get into trouble, or start any herself.

As for Nelson, he will have to deal with the same, the trucks run very close due to them being un-aerodynamic. But at the same time, they do have throttle response in their engines. They make the most power on the plate tracks if I remember correctly, because again they need the power to move them. He really needs to mind his fenders, there will be plenty of other people to cause trouble, he needs to focus on keeping the body straight and with the least amount of doughnuts on the door. Basically what you said, drop back and log laps, get comfortable in the draft.

I hope the Truck race goes off well, we have a chance of rain that day. And the temps all weekend will be in the 50's, so they are going to be making some power :D!
First we need to get through the Twin's on Thursday though. Something like 19 cars for four transfer spots all together. I don't want to see any backup cars coming out for Sunday.

Can you believe it guys? Sunday, Daytona 500, already! This off season really sailed by, I was craving a racing fix for a few weeks, then I was just looking forward to Speedweeks, and boom it's that time of year! The real holiday season has arrived! Spring and Summer, C'mon!!!

And Earth, do you endorse this "Digger"? Please tell me no

I say over 11th.

She looked good in the ARCA race but I think the Cup drivers and a lot of good Nationwide drivers will make it more of a challenge for her.

Unless she hooks up with Dale Junior, then who knows, probably top 5.

12th - 20th....??? or someone takes her out.

Digger represents everything the haters hate about NASCAR, even what some NASCAR fans hate about NASCAR.

So I have him in my avatar just to tick people off

Again another crash in Cup practice today. The 36, I think it was driven by Bliss, lost it coming out of 4 and smashed Logano into the wall. Jimmie Johnson ran into the back of the 11, it looked like the valence was just bent a bit but they will send the car back to North Carolina as there is some suspension damage as well.

I really hope they dont repave Daytona, the bumpy surface really rewards good handling cars and makes the drivers have to drive instead of just flooring it.

Last time I checked Danica was 20 something in Nationwide practice. But practice times dont matter on the superspeedways, it'll take raceday to see how she does.

:P I just don't like digger or his 30 minute pre-race garbage. Or the jump up as the cars are coming and act scared, when it's a sweet camera view otherwise.

Danica ended up 26th with Herr Stewart being the quickest. Agreed, I'll wait and see just the same.

I think if they don't repave it, they should let the teams have full reign of the suspension tuning, otherwise, I don't see the point in running the old surface any longer than they have to.

Since we aren't picking picks for fantasy Nascar who's going to win tomorrow? I want to see Jr and Martin stay on top in their respective races. But I don't know that they will push if they aren't out front, no point in messing up a good car. Martin has a bunch guys whom were fast Saturday, different cars though, but still. I guess I can't pick a winner in race two, I'd like to see Jr, JPM or Smoke in race 2. For race one, Matrin, Elliot or Newman.

AND, Nascar has changed the G/W/C rule. If it were a week earlier, the shootout may have been different.

Speed - If a caution came out during the final two laps, the field was frozen in position and the race essentially ended then and there.

The new program tweaks things slightly: If a yellow comes out during the first of the final two laps, NASCAR will attempt another green-white-checkered finish. But if the yellow waves after the leader has taken the white flag, the race ends there.

Anyone hear the announcement about green/white/checkered finishes? Apparently enough fans complained about the way the Shootout ended that they changed the rules. Instead of one green/white/checkered and finish no matter what if a caution flies, they will be doing them "as many times as it takes". 👍

I'm just happy NASCAR is listening to people again.👍

This is probably the most excited I've been for the season to start for awhile. To bad I will be missing the 500 and will have to find a replay somwhere.:grumpy:

LSX I cant make a pick for the shootout. Its like the all-star race, whos willing to risk their equipment for a race that doesnt really mean anything.

As for the green/white/checkered finishes, I dont know. Mark Martin said the sport has to maintain a level of professionalism. I know NASCAR is a show but at the same time its a sport. Theres a line that can be crossed where its all show and I dont think anybody wants NASCAR to go there.

The Shootout? That was Saturday night, you mean the Duel 150's tomorrow right? They are the qualifying races.

Everyone risks just about all they can just to win the Shootout and the All-Star. Those cars are usually expendable, it's nothing but a show and bragging rights, with a nice pay check to top it off. Think Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman's crazy moves in the All-Star. Or Tony Stewart's slide move into a hole that was not even there in the shootout, and the eventual pile up coming to the white flag.

I find it harder to pick for the Duel races myself. I have no idea who is really going push. I know the Go or go homer's are going all in, but if your in the show, you don't really want to be caught in all that drama as your starting position does not dictate anything but your pit box and what end of the field you start at. I would not be the least bit surprised if a GGH driver won one or both races tomorrow. There are 19 cars trying to make 4 spots.

Just to add to that, they said as many as it taks but if the white flag was shown, it would be official

From what I read on NASCAR.com is the following.

"Nothing's been done yet, but we've been kicking around the idea of having more than one attempt at a green-white-checkered prior to the white flag coming out," Poston said Wednesday afternoon.

EDIT
From today at 1:02 PM EST

"We want to do all we can to finish our races under green flag conditions. The fans want to see that, and so do the competitors," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. "We felt that putting a cap at three attempts to finish the race under green is the way to go. It gives the fans what they want and it also gives the teams a better opportunity to prepare for their end of race strategy."

I thought 1 was more than enough, oh well.

I don't think the truck race will happen tomorrow. 90-100% chance of rain, Daytona is supposed to get 0.88 inches of rain from early tomorrow morning to late tomorrow night. Maybe it will get moved to Saturday? Even if it's not a bunch of rain, it's supposed to be constant. Just have to wait and see what happens.

I though 1 was more than enough, oh well.

But surely you agree with the idea that the fans deserve to see the end of a race under green and not under a caution.

They should bring this idea into Indycars because you dont want to see a race finish under yellow unless it is for the old heavens opening up!

Also, for anyone interested, DP 26th fastest in practice but only like half a second behind Smoke who won with an average speed of 184.695

I agree with going with what most fans want, sure.

I liked it when they went the advertised distance, be it under caution or not, that's all I see that I deserve, no more.
For me it's not nessesarily who wins but how the race develops, so the finish isn't as important as the race itself.
A couple green laps at the end are not important to me, but again, that's me.

Let's see what happens over the year and whether NASCAR changes it or not.

And remember, cautions breed cautions.

The best thing to come from this is the fact that NASCAR is listening.

Race time!!!!!!

That's unfortunate for Burton. Almost really unfortunate for Bowyer.

I hope Mikey transfers. Biff can really push today, fast car!

And they're using the baseball bat to repair Max Papis' car!

I can only imagine a F1 team using a baseball bat to "repair" a damaged car. That would be even funnier!

I really want Max Papis and Michael waltrip in the 500

Green flag 25 laps to go
