I think I will go with 3.

Here is the points setup I came up with in 20 seconds.

Win : 40 Points
Top 5: 25 Points
Top 10: 15 Points
Pole: 5 Points
1-2-3 Finish: 25 Points (On top of other points)

Max Points=120
Ties are decided by wins, than top 5s and top 10's.

Let me know what you think. I will get a thread up tomorrow.

How about you can't chose the same drivers as you did the previous week? I think that would make it more interesting and even add a little strategy to it. It would get boring with everyone choosing the obvious drivers like Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart etc every week.

I was planning on doing that, I was in a league the past two years that didn't have that rule and it's wasn't very interesting for that very reason.(I didn't even switch any drivers for half the chase and still finished 4th).

I found this article just and some might hate me when I say this, but I kind of agree with it:

Speedtv.com
Back on my grandfather’s farm there was this crazy old goat (no, I don’t mean my grandpa) who broke into the feed bin one night and literally ate himself sick.

I won’t go into the graphic details but let’s just say if you’ve ever seen a sick goat the vision sticks with you.

My grandpa said the goat had become “foundered” by gorging itself with too many goodies.

The parable of the sick goat came to mind the other day when I read Felix Sabates’ theory about what’s wrong with NASCAR. He thinks fans have become foundered on racing.

“Too many of everything,” Felix opined, referring to everything from the large number of races to the countless hours of racing shows on TV.

He may have a point.

When I began following racing back in the Jurassic Era, each race was special, an event into itself. We didn’t get to watch races on TV because none were televised. That meant you had to travel to a track and watch the action live – a special, big-deal treat.

Aside from that, if you wanted to follow racing you’d sit out on the back porch and try to pick up a distant broadcast through the crackling radio static.

Now all 36 Sprint Cup races are televised, along with the Bud Shootout and the Sprint All-Star race. So are all 34 Nationwide races. So are all 24 Camping World Truck races. So is most every practice session and qualifying lap.

Then there are the incessant pre-race shows, the post-race interviews, the post post-race wrap-ups from the booth. Atop it all comes the slew of racing shows that are on some channel almost every night of the week.

It used to be hard to find a race; now it’s hard to get away from one.

I realize that there’s a simple solution if someone thinks there’s too much of something on TV, be it NASCAR or Jerry Springer: don’t watch it.

But TV is a persistent temptress and like most fans I watch most of the races. Then, like most fans, I gripe about how predictable racing has become. Of COURSE it’s predictable when we watch endless laps of racing week after week. There’s only so many ways that a car can drive around a track.

Like most problems facing the sport, over-saturation is not easy to fix.

Sabates suggested cutting some races from the schedule, thereby making the remaining ones more exclusive and special. But most tracks are already having a hard time and it would be brutal to take away one of their races.

Same goes for taking some races off TV. Reducing telecasts would mean reducing revenue that trickles down to already financially-strapped teams.

I suppose it comes down to this: if fans are becoming as foundered on racing as Sabates says, it’s up to each individual to decide when he or she has had enough. If they keep gorging themselves they’re liable to end up as sick as my grandpa’s goat. Trust me, nobody wants that.

What do you guys think?

Would anyone be interested in doing a fantasy NASCAR thing here?

I would be willing to run it and maybe even offer up a small prize to the winner.

Funny you should say that because i am going to be running a caption comeptition just like F1, if any of u r interested

Also to RACECAR, wouldn;t know about watching too much NASCAR because there will be too little on my end of the pond, Sky Sports not showing it

Is that what it's about? Sorry didn't read it I'm in a rush and trying to get as much forum browsing done as possible. :)

No probs, it's open to everyone young, old, fresh-faced and veteraned

Seeing as its addressing fans here in the states, its a good possibility that you aren't eligible to answer the question, silly ;)

Dont miss this HBO 4 part series on Jimmie Johnson's preperation for the Daytona 500

I watched the first part is was great. Part two is Tuesday

Found this trailer on youtube it gave me goosebumps

Hello, My name Is Michael I am a Kasey Kahne fanatic(hense the name) im not fond of the cot because it is NASCAR which stand for National Assosiation of STOCK CAR Auto Racing. A few things:

1) The "stock car" in NASCAR doesn't really mean squat anymore.

2) If things stay the way they are with Chrysler right now, I don't think we'll be seeing Dodge in the cup series for very long. Especially since all their teams are switching to other makes.

3) I agree with GT5 and NASCAR. Can't wait to take them for a spin around Daytona and Indy.

The funniest prediction article I've seen in awhile. It got really funny towards the end.

Link

Except for the part where Johnson retires midway through the season, I think that everything mentioned in that article isn't that far fetched. :dopey:

I'd agree with the too many pre-race, post race, race, race, race stuff. It's fine to watch the race, but not sit through a two hour show of the same boring stuff just to get to the command to fire engines.

On a side note, can't wait for the Shootout this weekend, bigger plates, no bump drafting rules, and no one cares if they take the car home at the end of the night? Going to be a wild one for sure.
It get's underway at 8:30PM EST on Saturday night. I think I'll bring a sheet of plexi-glass to keep from being hit by shards of COT.

Apparently Gordon wasn't very happy about Johnson catching up to him in the child dept. as well as Championships.

Gordon expecting baby #2: during NASCAR Media Day coverage on ESPNEWS, #24-Jeff Gordon announced that wife, Ingrid Vandebosch, is expecting their second child due this coming summer, joining daughter Ella, currently two years old.(2-4-2010)

Well, they got to work pretty quick then:lol:

Big wreck in shootout practice. Cars are moving around a bunch.

Hamlin turned Martin, Mcmurry involved, Biffle, Harvick's car with Bowyer at the helm. I think that is everyone. Though other cars had made minor contact, and or drove off the banking on to the apron. Backup car anyone?

Logano was pushing Hamlin up, or when Hamlin lifted, he got into Hamlin. Then Hamlin caught the right rear quarter of Martin. I think Martin and Mcmurry got the worst of it. All on the short shoot to turn one.

I havent seen the wreck but SPEED just said it was a misunderstanding between Martin and Hamlin.

I hope Hamlin isn't a safety hazard to himself and other drivers by racing with a torn ACL. I wonder how quickly he can get out of a car, but I'm not sure how a torn ACL limits you.

ARCA practice today,

Nelson Piquet Jr 7th fastest

Danica Patrick 14th fastest

Just read this,

6 women in the ARCA race? Now I'm really scared

Kurt Busch just knocked the wall down, what is going on tonight? JMP involved, with minor damage.

There were a couple girls last year too, they do just fine. I thought Danica ran 22nd fastest?

Edit: Apparently, the Speed announcers think it's the closure rate with the extra horsepower.

This ARCA race worries me, I think its almost assured of a big one. And since there is so much inexperience in the field the chances of someone getting t-boned after a crash are high....

I think they should give the drivers (Sprint Cup) alot more horsepower. Daytona is so bumpy it really rewards a good handling racecar, so maybe the pack will break up and the worst that will happen is the top speeds of the cars are 10, 15 mph faster?

At what speed does it become unsafe? What difference is there between 190mph and 210mph?

Dont they have inner liners for the tires and roof flaps, things bobby allison didnt have when he flew into the catch fence?

A modern day catch fence is much stronger and taller then the one Allison hit.

Indycars race at 230mph

I think its time NASCAR tries something new, perhaps let them race up to 210 or 220mph.

If 215mph would stop the pack racing as they would have to lift in the corners and the better handling cars would break away do you think it would be safer then the current 43car pack at 195mph, or just 20mph slower?

I tried this in NASCAR 2003. I got rid of the restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega. The cars were doing around 230 on the straights and 215 in the turns but they spread apart nicely and handling really played a factor

I think NASCAR wants to keep the pack racing because it looks cool and is something so unique. I also think they like the occassional crash it causes, so they may not be in too much of a hurry to fix pack racing at the superspeedways.

 The ARCA race has one or two big ones EVERY year, it just happens, regardless of who is driving.

Nascar just gave the Cup cars more power. Daytona is way too bumpy for the power they are making right now, if practices were any indication. But that is my opinion, I'd like to see them be three wide without wondering when someone is going to let the spoon fly off the grenade and smoke and shrapnel is everywhere. And if the closure rate has gone up so much the drivers are having a problem now, it would be even worse at higher speeds. IMO.

I like the tight packs, I don't like follow the leader that much, so I don't really want them to run faster. Again IMO. Daytona does have the handling come in to play, when the tires go off, running three wide is even harder, it's so bumpy. I'm just hoping the drivers calm down so they can get some racing done, I don't want speedweeks to be a continuation of today's shootout practice.

Crap, all my picks are starting midpack or worse. Now I really hope they hold it together in the first segment and my picks migrate forward. Less danger
