Gonna miss the ole wing. Kinda liked the way the new COT's looked with the wing. Although I do remember them testing the COT before it was used for racing with both a spoiler and wing.

THey asked drivers about getting rid of the yellow line rule, Pemberton said it was around 70/30 in favor of keeping it, for now.

Im interested in seeing what changes the spoiler will bring.

Eh, that's my least favorite rule. I think it'd be cool if the dropped it for about the last 5 laps and let the drivers go all out. I'd rather they drop it all together, but I don't see that coming anytime soon.

That's what I told my dad, except I would like to see it dropped for the last lap. When that white flag flies, all bets are off.👍

Am I the only one thinking the spoiler is a step backwards? Yes it sucked in dirty air but it did allow the drivers to go all out and climb back over the edge when they went too far. The spoiler will keep going and suddenly you're backwards on the wall. Spoliers loose too much DF with yaw compared to endplated wings, the most they could do is to add a enplate to the spoiler or some other type of sideforce device.Im sure part of kyle buschs success on the car of today has been due to the ability to be recovered.

Agreed. I think spoilers made the cars easier to manage when they got loose because of the endplates but I think the main reason they want to get rid of the spoilers is because they seem to create much more lift when the car is going backwards, hence why we've seen so many flying cars last season. The Carl Edwards crash at Talladega might have been the last straw for the spoilers.

Its actually backwards. They are getting rid of the wing and switching to the old spoilers. They could have done a ton of work to help the cars both handle better and stay on the ground easier yet they took the easy way out. With a slight underbody tunnel/difuser and having the wings on a pivot so that they would flip forwards and create an airdam when air goes over them backwards would have been much better.

I heard that Jimmie Johnson talked to Dave Despain on Wind Tunnel about a move to sports cars?

That he wanted to contest the 24 hours of Le Mans at some point?

Is this true? If so I have so much more respect for this guy. I like drivers like Montoya who like to get out there and race anything

He probably already made millions. He has 4 straight NASCAR championships. I think it would be very cool to see him move into Grand - Am or the ALMS. I think Corvette could at least get him into one of their GT2 cars at Le Mans. Maybe at some point he could contest overall victory? Im straying now.

Maybe you misunderstood or he didn't explain well enough... but maybe they were talking about him doing the 24 Daytona race?

Its something I heard through the grape vine. I'll have to look into it more

Also, Nelson Piquet Jr will be making his stock car debut at Daytona in the ARCA race. I'm going to set the autotune.

Which race was Danica Patrick suppose to debut at? Was it Arca as well? If so it may be the highest rated ARCA race ever.

Wow, usually the ARCA race is just fun to watch because they can't keep the cars going straight. Now I can't wait to go and see Peakay Jr. and Danica have a go at the high banks. :D It's going to be the same cant stop running each other over 200, but just with an added twist. I really hope no one will be hurt this year though, one of the ARCA drivers Patrick Sheltra, was injured quite badly last year in an incident in turn four. I didn't see it, I was at pit out, but watching the replays, he got drilled in the door pretty hard. Ended up with a compression fracture of the spine? He did come back to win races though I'm pretty sure.

Have to start somewhere I guess.

Will Piquet be having a go at the truck race? I know he tested at New Smyrna Speedway in one. Usually the only reason the drivers will run the ARCA race is to be certified to run those size tracks for Nascar, like Joey Logano did last year. He ran very well finished second. He basically just stayed out of trouble. But he needed that start to be able to run the Daytona 500...

Wow, so thats all ARCA is? Thats all anyone watches it for is the wrecks? So it confirms my theory that unless some big name driver is in the field, no one gives a damn about ARCA but me. Yet more people interested in watching the lackluster racing in Cup, unbelieveable:tdown:

That would be facinating if he really did look into that. In my opinion, the real best drivers in the world are the ones that can drive more then one kind of car, in more then one discipline and still be good so I'm interested in seeing that happen.

Nah man, don't take that the wrong way, there is good racing in ARCA. I don't go for the wrecks, be it Nascar or ARCA. It's just that the drivers don't spend much time on speedways that large, so when they do, mayhem ensues. Every year I've been there, it's the same thing. I've always enjoyed going to the ARCA race, it's just honestly scary...

OK, pardon my reaction to that. It just irritates that the only time ARCA seems to get alot of attention is when a big name driver is in it and the last two years is the perfect example. It was Scott Speed in 08', Joey Logano Last year and now(assuming its more then one race) its Danica Patrick. Its frustraiting that one of the series (along with Grand-Am) that actually has racing left in it gets almost no attention most of the time.

Honestly, I never realized Speed was in the '08 race, though I never pay attention to him on the cup side either. And last year I don't remember even knowing about Logano being in until I had made it to the track, I was more excited about the girl who was from Daytona starting in the top 5.

Patrick and Piquet make this years race no more or less exciting. I'm just interested in what the open wheelers will do in a big pack at Daytona...

Aside from a few Nascar starters on the Grand-Am side, I don't care either. Like Kyle Busch in the Brumos 250 last year, it was just funny, I guess he forgot that the DP cars brake will really bite as he slid past the bus stop. But when the Earnhardt's ran the Corvette, yeah that was a big deal, and for good reason, same with JPM and how well he does. Otherwise it's just meh. They could be there or not, wouldn't matter.

Robbie Gordon announced he will be driving a Monster Truck this year.

Actually robbie is a very good offroad racer and has won the baja 1000 before. He just sucks sweaty monkey testicles at nascar.

He's also had a decent stint in indycars as well. I think he has just had very crappy luck in Nascar and never really found the grove like Tony did, although I think Tony is much younger as well.

I believe Daytona still depends on her performamce in the ARCA race.

Would anyone be interested in doing a fantasy NASCAR thing here?

I would be willing to run it and maybe even offer up a small prize to the winner.

How about something simple like a poll of who you think will win the race?

A poll with 43 options wouldn't work very well. It would also mean 36 rather pointless threads.

Justin, I'm all for that. Can we test run it for the Bud Shootout next Saturday night?

Sure, I will start working on the points and rules.

Edit: How many drivers per week do you think we should pick. I was thinking 3-4.
