Man, this race is so wild at the end! The surface stuff was annoying, but the end was totally worth it. Glad for Jamie and good to see Reutimann up there and just about everyone else in the top 10 seemed to be random too.

Wow what a crazy finish. Junior came out of nowhere! Looked like Hamlin's front splitter cut into Jeff Gordon's left rear tire cause it looked down when they entered turn 3 and then all of a sudden Gordon was sideways through 3. That sucks, I was rooting for the 24 too.

Holy hell, that was awesome. I'm still shaking from watching that. I thought for sure Jr was gonna blast right by but great job for him. He finishes the race in the exact same position he started. Nice job for Jamie, not bad for a driver who didn't have anywhere to go after he got the sour end of the car owner deal.

I also must applaud Nascar, all three series finished under green and with some awesome finishes. The racing is truly back as is my interest in cup now:tup:

Good race, but that tack needs a new set of asphalt or concrete. It looked bad, and the drivers were all complaining about the holes and crap on the surface.

Dale Jr is a beast! I have ever seen anything like that even what his dad did at Talladega in 2000 wasn't as extreme as that. If he passed McMurray that would have been the greatest 2 lap drive ever! I was screaming so much

Great way to start off the season with such an exciting race. Its a shame they'll have to repave the track, watching the drivers slide around was fun but will disappear with a ultra smooth surface.

I really hope Dale Jr proves his critics wrong this season

And I wont forget Harvick moving Truex Jr out of the way, you could see the desire to win the race in all these drivers

Wooooooo!!!! Go Jamie!!!!!

Great finish, although the track breaking up was kind of a drag though. Oh, great run by Dale Jr. too, 10th to second on that last GWC.

This.

I agreed with what Bowyer said in his interview, just patch it back up before the next race.

Unbelievable race. Congrats to Jamie! :D He drove great all day and I loved how all the drivers congratulated him especially the former teammates at Roush. :D ---- Randy

Clearly agree that the surface stuff was annoying especially when you consider the fact it denied Montoya his win, otherwise great race.

Wasn't expecting McMurray to win. Hopefully the rest of the season is this unexpected(minus the track thing).

I'm going to try and find the race somewhere on the interwebs.

This Daytona 500 set the record for most leaders and had the 3rd most lead changes.

Hendrick cars looked strong, Penskes looked strong, Earnhardt/Ganassi looked strong, Rousch looked strong, Joe Gibbs looked strong, Childress looked strong, heck the field was wide open.

This could be one of the most competitive seasons in cup ever

If Jr. didn't get loose on the back stretch he would have sailed right around McMurray. He was that close. Also , with hindsight Biffle pulled out to pass McMurray too early, he should have waited toward the end of the lap or on the backstretch.

Congrats to McMurray, 3rd plate win, finally the big race. He will always be riding this Daytona 500 winner wave for the rest of his career. Sadly I was out to dinner, and due to the track repairs, my DVR shut off at normal time for the race to end, so I missed the last 78 laps... Just as the cars fired up it was over.

Oh well, I'll catch the replay on speed channel mid week. They will likely omit the delay and keep to the racing. Speedweeks was a blast, too bad it's over now.

That was crazy, but don't forget Jr's nearly solo charge to the lead in the last few laps of the '01 Pepsi 400 to win, that was really something.

Oh man, i was out of my seat for those last few laps, what a finish.

Congrats to Jamie Mac, one of the nicest people in the NASCAR garage you could meet but the Jr Nation looks like it is coming back strong

I'm kinda pissed about what happened to Allmendinger after watching him drive to the lead with out any help after the field was strung out. His car looked unbelievably fast.

One question on my mind since the Daytona 500 has finished, has Kevin Harvick been pitching Shell racing grade bitumen to the Daytona International Speedway brass since the end of the race last night?:D

One of the most boring races until they finished the track fix and everyone then woke up and finally started racing. I miss the old cars restrictor plate racing.

It's been 9 years since we lost Dale Earnhardt.:(

His death brought about the Hans device which has no doubt saved many drivers from death or injury

It's so sad thinking if he were wearing a hans device (had it been developed earlier and not as a result of his death) he would have never got the basal skull fracture

The safer barrier would have also softened the blow. No doubt he would have survived if he crashed the same way today.

Man, nine years since we lost Junior's dad? That long?

I mean, i only came into NASCAR a few years ago and I didn't realise it had been that long

Haven't been here in a few days, but it's still sad Dale Sr. has been dead for over nine years. His loss to NASCAR is like Peter Brock to Australian racing or Colin McRae to rally.

Time to think about California this weekend. Danica Patrick will give it another go for the Nationwide series in SoCal this Saturday. Have you any early picks to win in the major series racing at California this weekend (even if you have some California natives to win)?

Danica Patrick 37th fastest in first Nationwide Practice, complaining of lack of rear grip

Cup practice up next

hmm, not good being 37th fastest, gonna be a long race for her if she qualifies down there.

Another practice coming up for Nationwide, she has a chance to improve the car

Juan Montoya fastest in Cup practice, qualifying later on tonight

As I'm typing this Mark Martin takes the top spot from Montoya

Still just practice, qualifying is not for another 3 hours

Earnhardt/Ganassi front row. Montoya had McMurray's lap beat until he got a bit loose coming out of 4.

1. Jamie McMurray
2. Juan Montoya

This may or may not be a sign of things to come. Kenseth won the 500 last year and then won california the next week but tapered off big time the rest of the seaso

I'm glad Montoya got a competitive cars under him. I was worried the team would drop off for 2010 I'm glad they haven't. Montoya gave up F1 to come to NASCAR, and I would have hated for him to just slog around in 20th for his whole career in subpar equipment. This will also help increase interest in NASCAR from overseas viewers. Ambrose isn't doing too bad either.

Watching qualifying is very interesting, they show you when the driver gets on the gas, when he brakes etc. You can certainly tell the difference between a good driver and a bad one. Kvapil and Gilliland are bad drivers lol

Dale Earnhardt Jr is 27th in qualifying, and I'm sure his haters are already on his case again. Though they ignore Jeff Gordon qualified 28th.

Really, this has nothing to do with the race weekend but I thought given the irony in finding the original pic after "God put me in this predicament for a reason", I made this for kicks:

For those that don't get the joke, look at who is giving the thumbs up to Kyle.

Also, great to hear the EGR cars are 1-2 in qualifying. I hope this is a sign that both cars are chase worthy material and that a win on a oval for Montoya is gonna happen sometime soon.

Danica Patrick 37th fastest in first Nationwide Practice, complaining of lack of rear grip

Would anyone like to assist in solving this problem? I'd be up for it :sly:
