The Boston Celtics celebrated winning their 18th NBA Championship by defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games. It seemed like easy money for the ballin' Boston Celtics, and hardly anyone gave the Mavericks a chance. That was last season; get ready for the 2024-2025 season!

Before we look to this new season, here is a look at how the regular season ended last season:

LEGEND:
! = playoff team
!! = playoff team, won division
* = play-in tournament team

--- EASTERN CONFERENCE (End of Regular Season) ---
ATLANTIC: Boston!! (64-18), NY (50-32), PHI* (47-35), BKN (32-50), TOR (25-57)
CENTRAL: Milwaukee!! (49-33), CLE! (48-34), IND! (47-35), CHI* (39-43), DET (14-68)
SOUTHEAST: Orlando!! (47-35), MIA* (46-36), ATL* (36-46), CHA (21-61), WAS (15-67)
EAST PLAYOFFS (1-6; then 7-10): BOS, NY, MIL, CLE, ORL, IND; PHI, MIA, CHI, ATL

--- WESTERN CONFERENCE (End of Regular Season) ---
NORTHWEST: Oklahoma City!! and Denver! (57-25 each), MIN! (56-26), UTA (31-51), POR (21-61)
PACIFIC: Los Angeles Clippers!! (51-31), PHX! (49-33), LAL* (47-35), SAC* and GS* (46-36 each)
SOUTHWEST: Dallas!! (50-32), NO* (49-33), HOU (41-41), MEM (27-55), SA (22-60)
WEST PLAYOFFS: (1-6; then 7-10): OKC, DEN, MIN, LAC, DAL, PHX; NO, LAL, SAC, GS

So obviously, Boston is the team to beat for this season. Who will challenge them for the NBA Championship this season? What unsuccessful or non-playoff team(s) may probably improve for this season? What players will prove themselves to be formidable in the NBA this upcoming season? A lot of questions, and it will be up to the NBA teams and players to answer them for us.

Are you ready to discuss this new season? Everything from the NBA Draft to the final game of the 2024-2025 NBA Finals is fair game for discussion here. Ready? GO!

Love the Kel'el Ware and Pelle Larsson picks for Miami. Regardless of whether Pat puts superstars on the roster, this team is gonna be stacked deep with pace n space talent that should be able to contend again by the next 2-3 years.

Ware and Alondes Williams are looking great for Miami. Actually, everyone from the Skyforce squad looks so much better than other G-leaguers playing summer ball right now. Hopefully Ware can establish himself as the 5 to allow Bam to play the 4. Miami would have an awesome big lineup with Ware Bam and Jovic at 5,4,3, then maybe Jaquez at 2 and Rozier on point. Still wondering what the situation with Jimmy Butler is gonna be, but I still feel like we can be a playoff team in a post-Jimmy world.

Love the NBA on TNT? Well, enjoy it for this upcoming season because this will be the last one covered on Turner Sports. Turner Sports and Amazon were in a war for carrying NBA coverage moving forward. This also means Inside the NBA also will be going kaput on Turner Sports. Sad...

During the Paris 2024 Olympics, there was a commercial about something you may or may not have seen. All I can say is... "it's coming... back." The NBA on NBC will return next Fall/Autumn! This gives me flashbacks of when the Houston Rockets won the NBA Championship in 1994 and 1995. It will be interesting seeing the NBA on NBC return next year. Play that "Roundball Rock" song as many times as you like in its honor!

Steph Curry signed a one-year extension with the Golden State Warriors worth $62.6M USD. So to all the other 29 NBA teams, don't let Steph Curry drop three-pointers on you.

I see the Knicks have finalized the trade for KAT. I think it is a win win for both teams. I hated Donte go but hey you got to do what you got to do. This move was made strictly for the playoffs. This helps them match up with Boston. Also it creates space for Brunson. This is the most excited I have been about the Knicks since the 90s when Patrick Ewing was playing.

The NBA Preseason has begun. It's time for the NBA's teams to all try to get themselves ready for Opening Day (October 22). Time to get excited, NBA fans!

Next Tuesday, GTPlanet. Next Tuesday... we begin the 2024-2025 season next Tuesday! And when it's time to tipoff the new season, these two games will be played:

(Both games next Tuesday (October 22, 2024))
  • NY Knicks at BOS Celtics <<< BOS = defending Champions
  • MIN Timberwolves at LAL Lakers

Both games will be on the NBA on TNT, which will have its swan song season before the NBA on NBC returns for the 2025-2026 NBA season. These two games seem compelling. You NBA fans have about a week until the regular season starts up. So get psyched!

The Houston Rockets finished the 2024 NBA Preseason with a 3-1 record. Preseason:

  • HOU at UTA - lost 122-113
  • HOU at OKC - won 122-113, OT
  • NO at HOU - won 118-98
  • SA at HOU - won 129-107

The first regular season game for the Rockets is this Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets. I do feel good about the Rockets this upcoming season. Reed Sheppard is going to be a huge part of our offense this season. I am hoping the Rockets become a playoff team- even if 10th in the West or even if making the Play-In Tournament. The long shot, though, would be sixth or better in the West and/or winning the Southwest Division.

All you other NBA fans get excited for the upcoming regular season. Cheer on your favorite team(s).

The 2024-2025 NBA season begins this Tuesday. How do you all feel about your favorite teams this upcoming season? Feel free to share your mind if you wish.

I am hoping my Knicks can at least make it to the EC finals. I feel like they match up with Boston well. Hopefully Brunson continues to improve. He should with the spacing created by KAT. The pic and roll with those two will be deadly

kjb Your Knicks and my Rockets have one thing in common- hungry. The Knicks balled hard last season while my Rockets are scrappy up-and-comers. Houston hasn't been great since they let go of James Harden. I need not tell you how intense the Western Conference is.

Any other thoughts on teams, GTPlaneteers?
