Well I got all my ultimate parts, so no more night racing for awhile.
Just collectables, and activities for now.

The collectables are easy to get. Just use the main menu option and select "Show on map"... Even the ones you still haven't found the game will guide it to... The activities are a headache....

I can see that Pista soon... :)

Do you suppose EA/Ghost has PR folk browsing GT Planet? I know they're pretty active on the NFS sub-Reddit, but idk about here. I do think it'd make sense for them to be taking peeks at GTP, though, being a notable racing game forum.

Finished collecting all collectibles and activities. Finally caved in and retired my 180SX. Bought Regera for all the jumps and speed traps. There are a few tricky ones at Fort Callahan and another one near the centre of the map which has a speed trap sandwiched between 2 fast corners, and the Regera can't maintain cornering speed to save itself, so used an RSR instead. Drift zones are a pain because of traffic (you lose multiplier if you hit them, unlike in Payback ), but once you get used to the physics it's more than doable. Just remember to put all speedcross parts and RX7 is the meta. For some routes with lots of high speed corners, I used drag tyres to hold the drift longer.

Only things left to do is 25 races online and takedown 100 cops. Even with increased damage mod your car still takes more damage ramming a cop than it's worth, so I resorted to baiting cops across the harbor jump in downtown area. It's such a slog, but at least it's consistent. Will also help my crew reach level 50 and that elusive FXXK, because everyone else barely plays the game and contributes :banghead:

EDIT: Got the 25 races. Just ask someone at pstrophies. Make sure you both have equally fast cars otherwise you'll have to wait for them to finish as the races don't have a countdown timer!

Is the RX7 more meta then the Viper? i had no trouble at all (max 3 replays) to finish al the drift events.

I guess it is... at least that is what everybody says. Maybe one day we will get those world leaderboards to confirm that once and for all.

Finished my drift sectors yesterday.
Manage to do all but 1 with the Focus.
The 100K drift was the only one I used the RX on.

Now just a few more speed and jump, then billboards.

The effort and patience on doing these is worth it, imo.
The Pista is an awesome car....

So I am now down to 3 trophies for Platinum.
5/25 online races :yuck:
100 takedowns

Here is the UTH
https://www.ea.com/games/need-for-speed/need-for-speed-heat/news/under-the-hood-january-update

Update comes Jan 28th

Basically the following
  • Steering Wheels
  • Chat Wheel
  • Keys to the map (Unlocks all activities, collectables, gas stations) (Pay method)
  • QoL. (Gas stations cleans paint damage, changing some input settings, and making it less easy to enter garage after or start an event using manual) More updates will come.

Oh, and one more thing! Beyond January, we do have another update in the works. We’ll talk about that more as it comes closer, but we can tell you one thing: there will be more cars.

I can't say I'm not disappointed. To anyone who doesn't have a wheel, this is just another QoL update.

Even the final paragraph doesn't leave me that excited - Cars are great, but their fun factor wears quickly with nothing new to do. I'd be far more interested in some new events (whether it is related to the story or live service, I don't mind) being introduced.

I was fine with the game as it is and I still play it almost daily, but even I can’t help but be super underwhelmed by this. How ironic that 2015 and Payback have had better updates by this stage.

I imagine the Christmas break had a lot to do with why this took so long, people deserve to be able to spend time with their families, we can wait for some more content and there are plenty of other games to play.

How ironic that 2015 and Payback have had better updates by this stage.

It's obvious why - 2015 was a trainwreck of a game that needed free updates in order to engender some sort of good will going forward, and even then it can be debated how good the updates were, and whether they were able to make things better or if it was too little too late. Payback needed to get the 'defective' models out the door and decided to make lemonade out of lemons and add them as derelicts.

Heat by comparison doesn't have any sort of massive problem staring itself down.

..there's at least one ready-made joke about them calling the reveal-all-the-things-DLC the "Keys to the Map" with the setting being what it is, but.. yeah, I think I've killed those jokes enough already.

Not a ginormously useful update on this front, but QoL improvements are still QoL improvements, and those are not to be sniffed at. Even if they leave you wondering why said QoL wasn't part of the base package when it's been standard in every other release since 2012. I'm looking at you, gas stations not fixing paint scratches. And a little at the needlessly long amount of time one has to hold the button to engage Snapshot Pro rather than it just being one delightfully acute button press for those action shots.

Heat by comparison doesn't have any sort of massive problem staring itself down.

Ironically, being a decent enough game out of the box seems to have hurt its longevity with players. There's a grim outlook on the future of video games if you ever needed one.

That doesn't say anything about the game industry though. That says something about Heat more then anything, and the perception that players have about the previous two Ghost NFS games, considering they shipped with massive problems out of the box and needed free updates in order to salvage both the perception of the games, and to make people actually come back or buy the game.

I mean, look at Forza Horizon 4. Launching as a full featured, enjoyable game and adding onto it has kept up the player base, it's only now where things are starting to sag with the two expansions and Car Pass done and dusted and keeping up with the Series and Forzathon cars.

There's no magic formula when it comes to a live service, only that if it works or not, or how proactive the developers are. Because the two previous NFS games were, respectively, a massive trainwreck and a game that had cars that needed to be pushed out as free updates in order not to have backlash for being 'defective' models in risk of being cut completely, the relatively hassle free and good game Heat has become has let the game sort of stay in stasis, with no major problems needing to be ironed out in updates. Should Ghost be a bit proactive and start dropping hints on new DLC for cars / events (especially) with regards to this time frame being bumped? Sure, I absolutely agree. But your assertion that it somehow paints a picture about the 'future of video games' is alarmist and honestly not needed.

Ghost/EA should have been honest.
"The January update is a QoL improvement, and new content will be added next time."
If they had said so before, I would have sighed a little and expected the next update.
It is true that we had excessive expectations. But they too were fueling our expectations.
We hope we'll smile in the next update. They're announcing the addition of a new cars and I'm ready to pay for new cars. Since November.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game was rushed down to the wire, hence them adding all of these small things that seemingly should've been there at launch.

New content probably isn't finished yet, but it's not a great idea for Ghost to just go months without any real post-launch support. Gotta push out something in the meantime, hence small updates like these...

The longer this game goes without a major a content update, the faster my interest decreases. There's nothing left to do in the game besides collectibles and free-roam challenges; none of which are of any interest to me whatsoever.

I knew to myself dont hype it up or you will left disappointed. Check nfs reddit a lot of people are pissed off.

I did not expect much to be honest but I really do want the multiplayer to be better. I want to race people instead of trying to invite people which only 1 or 2 participate. I dont want Ai cars racing I want to race a full grid.

Also night time needs to start paying us money or at least convert rep to money.

If this game dies off what a shame.

So i tried the RX7 (forged wankel, all ultimate parts, with speedcross and drift parts (same as my viper)).
I have to admit that the rx7 is even easier to drive and drift) fyi.

Honestly the only DLC I'd be looking forward to would be a map expansion. There is a train track and bridge leading out West from Fort Callahan, and on the map it looks like a few buildings and roads are already there, just not fully textured. New cars are a bit meh for a game like NFS, when fully tuned they all tend to drive same-ish anyway. Also unless it's a new meta, most people won't even touch them so what's the point? It'll just add 1 hour of gameplay max, whereas new map or actual new features (cops & robbers anyone?) would add loads more gameplay hours.

Addendum to my previous post on rep farming, I have a correction to make. It seems that rep from races and activities both do get multiplied live, but for some reason races do not increase your heat level as much as activities EXCEPT your first race of the night always gets you up to Heat 3 (assuming it's a 30k rep race at least). So if you do jumps, you only need ~200k rep to reach heat 5, but with races only you need closer to 1 million rep. The race MUST be the first thing you do. If you do jumps or other activities, the first race you do after doesn't get to Heat 3 anymore.

As a result of this, the fastest way I find to farm rep is to do one race --> laps of speedway with jump/speedtrap to reach heat 5 --> then do as much races as you're comfortable. My personal route at the moment is Maori Venture (58k rep and you finish close to the speedway) > speedway speedtrap > Flying Dutchman (just outside speedway) > Discovery A/B/C (individual races, not the full loop) > usually I escape after this because the risk of getting busted is too much (if you're better at evading cops, you might continue). Easy 1 million+ rep in under 20 mins, consistently every time. If you end up close to a high heat race and it's a 60k+ one, then do that. But obviously the spawn point is random. Also try not to do circuit races because it will concentrate cops in the area. With sprint races, even at heat 5 you'll be gone before the cops can bring reinforcements so you're relatively safe (unless you have the dreaded heli tailing you).

In terms of money farming, if you haven't posted fast times in time trial do the trick I posted in previous page (no, it hasn't been patched as I was led to believe). Ideally you have someone really fast on your leaderboard so the ghost can show you the correct lines and "extend" your grinding session. You can cut across the barriers as you don't need to stay within their bounds, just need to hit all the checkpoints in the correct order. Unfortunately I maxxed out this avenue quickly as I didn't know about the trick and all my times are already very fast for me to beat :ouch: Very annoying, IMO they should still give some credits for completing the trial, even if you don't beat your previous time.

The speedway oval race remains the best at 52k per 1.5 mins. Just make sure you go back to garage after every TWO races so the reward doesn't decrease too much (via option screen is quicker than driving back). It goes down to 75% of what it was before so it's not worth the time saved of not going back to garage after two races (yes, I'm a total nerd and I made a graph in excel comparing credits vs time for all the scenarios ).

I also calculated all cars cost 24,262,000 Cr (excluding the FXXK since I haven't unlocked it yet). You can do the maths how long it will take to grind for them all :P

Last night, I raged quit in Heat. I was doing a night run in the regular BMW M3 E46. I had 1.4 million rep and I wanted to do the full Discovery race before going into a safe house. Except there was one problem: the helicopter was on me and would not go away, so I couldn’t start the event. And because of this, the game also would not stop spawning cop cars and rhinos.

I tried everything I could think of: taking jumps over water, going into tunnels, and leading the cops to the raceway and jumping out using the ramp. These methods worked to an extent but because of that helicopter, more cops just kept showing up. Of course, I eventually exhausted all of my repairs and got wrecked. That’s when I immediately closed the game and didn’t touch it again.

So yeah, this clearly was an unfortunate glitch that hopefully will remain an isolated incident. I went on the NFS subreddit to see if this happened to anyone else and interestingly only found one person who reported the same thing.

I sadly haven't picked up the game for the last 4-5 weeks. I tried a little trick & it worked...for a little bit. I started a police chase near the dock section of the map & used a jump to get onto the shipping containers, I basically sat there & let the heat meter go up to level 5. I occasionally moved into sight of one of the cops if it looked like I would "get away". After at least 5 minutes of the helicopter being called in, I was still "being chased". Well, as I watched the screen, suddenly the arrest meter turned on & began to fill up. It filled all the way up before I could drive away. I could only imagine that the helicopter decided to lower itself to within range to trigger the arrest cycle. But, it was an interesting experiment.

Same :( i tried starting a new game but even that was boring.

That's what i used to do whenever i did a high heat race 3 or 5 that ended close to that area to lose the cops

It might not be so bad if I didn't actually try to finish the story mode. But, with high heat races & grinding for dollars to do a few engine swaps, it should keep me going. However, I do have other games to play, so they all have to fight for my attention.

I prefer them leave Heat alone, since it's ok game and sells alright. If they have so little time to make a perfect game, they better start development of next one right now. All what they had to proof to fan base, has been proven, time to make big, isn't it?

Got the story done. Mainly used the KS cars. Now to finish with the rest of the races and collectables and fill up my garage. There shouldn't be a cap, I want to get them all :)

I completely agree, their approach to this update was a bit wide of the mark and I feel like they should have publicised it as a quality of life patch instead.
