Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed. : Having a hard time winning at easy mode. Yes, I'm a casual.

In his bedroom.
So I've bought Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed in, I think it was 2012 or 2013 and even there, in December 2014, I can't even seem to win much at easy difficulty the more I install upgrades. E.G. I take the Corolla GT-S (AKA Sprinter Trueno in Japan... I call it the Sprintin' Corolla) and I don't upgrade it at all.

Things will be easy, to a limited extent.

Now I take the same vehicle, I add works to the car and all the upgrades, but... oops. Now I can't seem to win!

The easy difficulty A.I. suddenly gets super fast and they literally wreck me instead of trying to avoid collisions like I try to.

Is there a way to win easier in the game? Also I often wipe my car out by losing a tire or taking too much damage.

Can anyone tell me of some tricks they use(d) when they play(ed) the game to help me figure out how to win?

Thanks guys! :)

(Extra question... what happens if I end up cutting too much corners? My driving skills are as inconsistent as ever and sometimes I end up off the road.)

Well if you upgrade vehicles the ai will also match you on the upgrade it goes by class.
You will need to practice practice it takes time to come good with this game but worth it.
If you cutting corners your lap time don't count for that lap.
You should learn to tune your car it is important.
Here some tunes https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/renown-tuning-unleashed-%C2%99.196236/

Also if you have all the driving aide on it will be really hard to win. You should only use abs if you want and traction control. I don't use any.
Also I don't know what platform you are but if you are on computer there is a patch :mod: for the steering.
Best advise practice practice practice :)

I think the difficulty scales as you progress, even if you're playing on Easy. At least in Career Mode. Also, the AI on easy seems to crash more often leading to accidents almost in all races. On hard, they are just a little bit faster but way more predictable and realistic, you'll have to push a bit harder to win but it'll be more rewarding.

Would like to say to the OP that I m not all that Casual and I too am at times struggling with the AI. Just got back into this game to see how much better it was with a wheel then a pad and its actually far more bearable but the AI do not make driving with its physics easy at all. Just racing at Silverstone, they were going through the twisty sections seemingly faster then it should be possible in real life and I either would go off trying to keep up or get slammed into the grass by a car I didn't even see on my sides that dived in.

Not a big fan of the physics in this game. Tried my hand at wheel drifting and it was actually kind of fun. But anyway, this game is not for people who are just starting out in the race genre.

Yes and they sometimes freak out when you overtake them and lose control even on straights. "Hard" is the best setting IMO, the overall faster pace prevents them from getting too close to each other which leads to far less accidents.

You can't race the AI like you do in other games. You have to race them like real racers, give way, avoid contact and try to be fair with them.

I run several mods, but stock Ai and modded AI both need to be respected like you would respect a human player. It will provide a much more rewarding game. They are not bumpers, you are not holy and should be given way no matter what. They will race, and they will try to win.

I recommend UPC + CMOD + CMOD Events/AI or just UCP to get the a much better game experience. I still play this when I want more cars or tracks that pCars does not offer. I just wish it had pitting time/weather and it would be a complete sim.

When you cut too many corners, the first 2/3 warnings will be your time will not be posted on the speedwall depending on the difficulty and the last warning will be disqualification.

Often times it says that even when I clearly have not cut a corner.
