Thoughts?

I know 320GB is plenty of space, and a special color option is always attractive, but damn it, when are they going to finally release a Silver PS3? :irked:

The white PS3 only comes with a 160GB hard drive. But they did release a regular black PS3 with a 320GB hard drive.

Black shows too much damn dust, I'd get that version if it weren't for the fact the slims are harder to keep cool. I saw some screenshots of white "phat" PS3s way back when but I'm guessing they were limited editions.

I didn't realise that, I thought that the general consensus was that the slims ran cooler than the old older fat style.

Well, I run a 120GB slim in a quite hot room ( and I live in a tropical country...), it never ever gets too hot, not even when it's turned on for 10 or 11 hours consecutively.

Anyway, I actually prefer the black version to that white one, white just doesn't fit the design in my opinion.

They run cooler if they are properly ventilated. If they aren't, they get quite a bit hotter than the Phats used to.

That's what I do, I have mine propped up so it has air flow under and all around it, plus a stand fan next to it. Along with cool air it also blows dust in it of course so you do have the downside of having to take it in for cleaning purposes every 6 months or so.

It's also good measure to give the PS3 at least four inches of air room on all sides and a source of air(leave the cabinet door open) for circulation.

The slims do run cooler than the old fat ones. I was asked to take care of one of the Phats around Christmas time and it got some good use during the GT Academy Time Trial. That thing is a heater compared to the slim.

But I have the slim vertical anyway since I've been running Life with Playstation/Folding@home on it 24/7 more or less for a few weeks now except when gaming. Hardware cooling is always a good thing right? :sly:

Although I'm no fan of the slims design at all it looks much nicer in matt white. White gloss Wii's had no problem with scratches and dust so I dont know why Sony are still sticking with matt especially now they are making a profit, even Xbox has jumped to the other side!

Fat PS3's do run hotter but they also have huge heatsinks to deal with it so provided its in a well ventilated area it should be ok. Also there were many more 'things' in the case to cool back in the 60GB days which added to the heat.

Robin.

Will this be getting released in the UK, I need a new PS3 and I think I'd wait for that if it's going on sale here.

They'll probably have a worldwide release for this model...not too sure if they'll have it available in that colour for the rest of the world though.
