New Super Slim PS3 Might Be On The Way

My guess would be so they can sell PS3s in countries where selling them at enough profit (or at an acceptable loss) would be prohibitively expensive, or just so they can sell them cheaper everywhere so anyone who said they're too expensive before doesn't have that excuse any more. I hope they release a super budget option here because then I might be tempted to get two more PS3s and two more copies of GT5...

Well one of the main reasons s they dropped backwards compatibility was to lower costs.
Now that costs are lower they could put it back in. Couldnt they ?

I think the main reason they dropped it was because they realised people would rather buy a PS3 instead of a PS3 as well as a PS2, then when they realised they could blame it on cost and reliability they went ahead and dropped it. Also the cost involved with re-developing backwards compatibility to work with the new hardware (particularly the reduced output PSU) would push the price right back up again I imagine, but I could be talking out of my, oh, er, seating area.

Backwards compatibility doesn't allow you to sell HD reboots of PS2 games as well. Thus, no backwards compatibility. That, and the aforementioned costs.

So, no more backwards compatiblity. And I'd imagine that the upcoming consoles won't have it, either.

PS4 won't be backing up PS3 games. It's easy to realize when we all can here news saying Sony cutting costs, fire staff, close factories and merge with other companies to make TV's together.

Oh I didn't know that.

Cheers.

Yes the could. Will they do it? No the people buy HD Remakes and digital PS2 games and are happy with that.

Because they don't realise that is was free in the past with the backward c.

It is a part of more reasons.

- They can sell digital PS3 games
- I think the PS4 will not use Cell
- They have Gaikai and can sell PS3 games there.

They still lag on HDTV's though. Meh.

Best looking console from sony hands down for me was the Fat PS2, followed by the fat PS3 and the slim PS2.

Agree, it looks just fine, but the original was definitely the sexiest with the shiny casing and chrome trim.

The original PS3 looks the boss, like some high end piece of AV equipment which had the bulky slab style of a 1980's VCR! Don't know why but that's what it reminds me of when I look at it.

Not so much on Plasma's with 600Hz

I agree, the fat PS2 is the best looking IMO, design inspired by Tokyo skyscrapers. PS3 inspired by the George Foreman Grill :sly:

You quoted me wrong, said it was someone else.

You really notice that lag if you play a PS2 on a flatscreen with a game like Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

More speculation...

A gamescom reveal had been planned, but stock levels of the current build are said to be too high for Sony to move onto what is probably the last take on PS3 before PlayStation 4 is announced next year.

In addition, a source today said that the rumoured 16Gb version of PS3-4000 is in fact real, and is based on Flash memory. There was some confusion surrounding the figure, which originated from Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications, with many assuming it was intended to read 160Gb. Credit: vg247

I don't know. They managed to move stock quite well from the fat PS3s to the current slims. I would say that there will be sales on the PS3 in all territories to get rid of supply quickly. While the major announcement will slip them by, I think they can quietly announce it before TGS. No need to get a major show involved for a simple redesign.

Why does everyone just assume the PS4 will be out next year. Remember back in '07 when we all said it would be out by now?

Most people agree it will be announced next year, as I do, but when it's released is up for debate. Some people think it'll be out Holiday 2013, I think it'll be 2014.

- Sony added a Slim modell at the end of the cycle
///////// PSone - slim PS1 in 2000 --- PS2 release 2000
/////// PS2 Slim [SCPH-77004 - was the best Slim modell and was called PStwo] in 2007. The model SCPH-90000 was edited Slim in 2007,too. The first Slim was released in 2004 2 years before PS3 release.

- ? PS3 Super Slim 2012 or 2013??

- Developer already work on Next Gen games.

- 6-7 year cycle
//////// PS1 1994 -- PS2 2000 ---- PS3 2006

And so on.

I think we will see the PS4 in 2013-2015.

I bet any reasonable amount of money 2014 is the year that ps4 gets released 20 years from first console with a you buet birthday deal and console

I agree it will be 2014. 20 year anniversary seems like too good of a marketing strategy to pass up.

And what happened to Sony saying don't expect a console anytime soon? You guys are too excited over something you shouldn't be expecting in the near future.

First sony would have to sell all the current slims they have in stock. So i don't think this new slimmer version will be on the market soon.

2014 is two years away so it is plausible and as I mentioned they would me mad not to go after a 20 year anniversary console cause unlike microsoft Sony doesn't reprint the console ad an extra console an re-release it every 3 or so months like the Xbox with the countless halo, star wars and halo one again

Yes. Companies are reliable. They said a few months before Vita announcment that they don't plan a PSP2.

They said not to expect a next gen console soon, they didn't say anything about a new PS3 model.

this generation of consoles is over

http://www.gamespot.com/news/lack-of-next-gen-hurting-creativity-says-ubisoft-6388225

just as article says, cycle should be every 5 years!

He's an idiot. The only reason why console makers are pushing the console lifespan boundary is technological, not creativity.

It all comes down to third party developers to develop creative games, and if idiots like him refuse to do so for an "old" console, then he is wasting his time in the business.
