Na it is just that human players often struggle more in the W08 and F1500 cars, as opposed to road cars or Gr. cars.
The AI for the W08 is shockingly bad. I mean, most of the AI cars can't even do Turn 1 at Nurburgring without spinning. It just feels like the AI is better because your pace (and mine too) is lower in those 2 vehicles.
In terms of the overall thread, having just a 'new difficulty' will not solve a single problem. Having better more thoughtful AI will, no matter of the AI Pace.
But surely a "new difficulty", which makes the A.I more "thoughtful", more aggressive, and, of course, much faster, is the whole point?
All the things you want will happen with increased difficulty, if, and it's a big if, if they do it right.
I agree about the F1 cars being poorly driven.
On the tracks with few really slow corners they aren't much of a challenge.
Last night I did the Blue Moon infield, short version anti clockwise, in the f1 cars.
I started at the back and ran my slower top end set up that I use so I can avoid going into 1st or 2nd in the slow corner(s) on tracks like NurbGP or Suzuka.
Suffice to say it wasn't much of test.
They brake too early into turn 1, carry too little speed on entry and exit, are flat out through the next left-right, but only because even the A.I couldn't lift on those two corners, and then they brake very early into the slow 90 degree left hander that blends into the oval section and onto the straight.
Running a high/medium downforce set up with a low top speed (I topped out at about 206 leading into turn 1) I still won with ease.
For me, them being 2 or 3 seconds a lap quicker, and being more sophisticated in their approach, would actually make it an interesting challenge and could only enhance my overall pace and race craft.
I always try to get the bonus for a clean race, which helps promote clean racing too, i feel.
