I would like to start up a league of all the new G25/27 DFGT, and other wheel users in GT5. YES THE CLUTCH WORKS!!!I don't mean to exclude anyone but this league is for new users to share their experiences with, and eventually get better at the game. Open to all ideas but I think next weekend, presumably Saturday, we all get together for a couple of laps at Nurburgring with our first cars from the career mode. We could probably set up a time to meet every week and see how we all progress. Open to all suggestions this is all about getting better with your new hardware and helping other users out.

Once we get the game we can decide how we want to setup the online league, if racing leagues are indeed allowed that is the route I think we should go. Also due to different time zones. Those in Europe should let everyone else no in this thread and Vice a versa. It would be easier to meet up with like drivers online.

To keep everyone updated I will be posted users Ideas in the main post. Once we have a better grip on what the structure online is going to be like I will be posting a more official format. This way should just keep everyone updated with all the latest ideas for the league without having to go through all the pages.

Idea from digitalic

i would love to gather a bunch of g25/g27 users together and host a track day on either SSR7 or La Sarthe for some drag racing using their long straightaways. Perhaps we can have 4 up at once if the roads are wide enough and then take turns doing some straight line drag racing. Those who are interested would all have to drive in MT using the clutch for this to make it worthwhile though
.

Idea from Huricane43
I just wanted to pass along an idea to you all. Assuming we have more than 16 names, which i think we already have. We can separate "our whole team" into two or three different smaller teams, so that everyone can help each other out and get familiar with the game. For example 16 players are online, would be with Team 1 (your team), and since we can't fit everyone onto team 1, we can designate a (team 2) with someone to designate that second team. We can have some sort of League or races as after several days of practicing, Example: Team 1 vs Team 2 (1vs1) (2vs2), have a bracket tournament or something like that. Single elimanation and team 1 and team 2 would referee the race and we all can spectate the race.

I like this idea. Something that we should definitely implement once we get to understand how the online component works. We can choose teams by random, or try to get an equal number from each region so there is a good number of racers from each team online at different times.

Idea from ninianman
We have two leagues.
In the two leagues we have say 10 teams, which are ranked by wins/losses (via a points system)
Each team would have 4 drivers, which are ranked by skill. Meaning there are 40 drivers in each league, battling for the top spot!
(now obviously, ranking by skill would be hard and somewhat indecisive, I would say members of the teams would have to put it to a vote of who is the best in the team. This would also bring in more competitiveness and the drive for each person to do better than their team-mates, effectively raising their skill with the wheel and the game itself and overall, gaining respect for one another. Or this could also be done by wins/losses or something.)
So you would have a Driver's Championship Table and a Team Championship Table.
Just an idea, would be cool if we could get something like that going, and something like Hurricane's idea going, cause it would be something of an exclusive club/league, and out of it, will hopefully form respective members of the league We should be the creme de la creme of racers haha!

Once we get the ball rolling I don't think this would be to hard to implement. Something of like an expansion of Hurican43's idea.

Idea from Fame
We can do something like a drivers showcase every week. Say every week a different driver gives us a few photo mode pics of what car they are currently using and write up brief summery of the car, like what they think of the vehicle in the game and how it handles on certain tracks. Every person can write anything they wanted to about their cars, every week it would be a different driver showcasing a different vehicle. That way we could implement photo mode into the league along sharing some knowledge on some of the vehicles. Drivers could volunteer to do it every week but the only catch is you cannot repeat the same car, (well maybe we will explore that further depending on how everyone else feels about it). We could turn that into a competition also, voting for the best summery of the month, best photo mode picture ect. ect.

Example of how I feel drivers showcase should look.
Drivers name: Fame Mcswagg
Weapon of choice: G27
Driving style: Shifter with Clutch
Driving Assist: (insert here if any)
Car in Showcase: Buick GNX
Pros:

Cons:

(insert pics from photomode or replay mode)
(insert pics from photomode or replay mode)
(insert pics from photomode or replay mode)

summery
The Buick GNX handles like blah blah blah. On Leguna Seca this happened, I really like blah blah blah about the car. Pretty much whatever you want to say.

Would you recommend this vehicle to other drivers:

All the drivers showcase will be handled as subthreads on this main page and separated by the month. At the end of the month polls will open up for votes on the best overall summery and best Photos. I will post the monthly winners in a section where their weekly showcase would be hyper-linked. We would have to come up with a way to actually choose who gets to do the showcase. Maybe the winner of the weekly races gets to choose. All showcase would then be emailed to me and I will format it to the thread.

Rough Draft for the league point and team set up structure:
With a total of 95 people as of yet it seems that two leagues, one for Europe and one for US both with 6 teams 8 members each is the best route to go. It would get us closest to our total number. Events would be structured with 3 teams competing at a time, 4 racers from each team. this will give the teams some ley way when people aren't online to race. Of course this would all change if the lag is just to much but we are going to hope for the best.

Their will be 2 scoring events a week, if needed we can bump it up to 4 so all teammates have the op to score but going from other online experiences I've had, their are always times when you can't get the whole squad together on a certain day. So the number for events will fluctuate from 2 to 4 scoring events a week. All other events can be organized as the teams see fit, so if you want to do some one on one leader board racing just make sure you let the league commissioner know so they can update the leader board. The team scoring events points will be counted as follows:
1st- 8 points
2nd- 6 points
3rd- 4 points (the first three places will be the money spots)
4rd-6th-3 points
7th-9th- 2 points
10th-12th-1 point

Don't get to caught up on the numbers they can be adjusted, the structure is what I what everyone to see. Obviously placing in the first three spots gives you a leg up but I want the teams effort to be stressed more. So if your team only has a 1st place finisher, but the rest of the team finishes at the bottom, chances are your team won't win. We may need to adjust numbers to get a more solid flow going but this is just a starting point.

What I see the Individual leader boards looking like is something like this. Every racer in the league can race another racer in one on one, possibly more racers (this is a concept I having put to much thought into) races that can be done anytime. All you have to do is agree with the racer that it is a ranked match and let the person updating you league page know the results. Points will be then updated on a leader board to show who currently has the most points. This wont be something that will be available right away, I want to get the team racing thing down first. But this will allow people to race more then once a week for points.

The car showcase will be just a weekly review from a driver and his car of choice that week. Photomode or replay mode pics will be posted and a brief review of the car would also be needed along with a recommendation of the car. These will be sorted in a sub thread on the main thread page and every month be voted on best photo, best review. Just something a little extra for the league.

The other Ideas for the free race and race reviews will all have a place on the original thread post, sub threaded just like the car showcase.

That is all I got as of now folks, suggestion would be greatly appreciated. This all depends on the network and what PD will give us to work with but I think this bare bones core should be able to be implemented. This is a large undertaking we are trying to accomplish so please be patient There will be hiccups along the way but I feel once it gets running smoothly, it would add so much more to the experience.

As an experienced G25 user who has used it extensively in Prologue, all you need to know is one thing: the triangle button is your key to happiness. All you gotta do is press it at the start of a race and your sizable investment in a game controller magically becomes worth it.

So why do we have to press triangle to make our clutch work at the beginning of a race? I don't understand the reasoning or the programming behind it.

This will be the first time I've used my G25 on a console. Saturdays could be great.

Actually, the triangle will also be your worst enemy, as you get tired your shifts will get sloppy and you'll miss them.

If you find yourself missing shifts, make sure you push the clutch all the way in, you can't really feel the floor like you can on a real clutch and the game gets picky about a few millimetres. If that doesn't work, make sure you come completely off the accelerator/gas as well. I like to ride the clutch between shifts when going uphill to get revs, but the game doesn't let you do this.

Sure its open to everyone new to the wheel world. I hear its the best experience around and I don't want to completely embarrass myself online. With this group we all would (presumably) start on the same level. Its open to everyone even if you don't have a wheel right away.

Might be a bit off topic, but thought I could use this for help...

I currently have the Driving Force wheel that I bought years ago (It's the same one as the DFGT without the additional knobs for brake bias, etc.) and hate it. It's the worst wheel I've ever used and found myself never really using it in the past.

In the past, I've raced in several different online series for N2003, iRacing, Arca and RFactor with a TSW wheel... some may scratch their head about TSW, but it's by far the best wheel for the PC - I PROMISE! It doesn't have FF, but it's a tightly sprung wheel that gives a super smooth feel.

I'm looking to upgrade, but don't know where to go. The current problem I have with the Driving Force is the FF and how horrible it feels and the give it has at around 12 o'clock - its basically impossible to go left and right or right to left quickly without it being delayed. The FF feels "grainy" almost as if you can feel the gears moving within the wheel.

I like the idea of the DFGT and the ability to control brake bias, but am afraid that it's basically the same wheel and will feel exactly the same.

That leaves me with the G25 or the G27... Can any compare or tell me about either one and how smooth it is? Is there any give around 12 o'clock? Is it much better than the Driving Force or will I just be throwing money away buy upgrading...only to find that it has the same problem?

Any help would be amazing!

Not sure if I can help you with that as my G27 is still in its plastic wrap however it feels solid, uses real metal and leather too. I forgot completely about the DFGT that will is also allowed but back to your question. I asked that question on this site not too long ago and the overwhelming response was get a DFGT, but if you can afford a G25/27 do it!! What took me off the DFGT was the fact that the shifter wasn't adjustable and was right there to your right, to unnatural for me and no clutch was a major no go. There is 900 degree steering in the G27, not sure about the 25 though. Hope that helped.

g25
----
Pros: has sequential shifter which is great for older games. Also in gt5prologue the sequential shifter seems to be the only way to get the paddles to work on cars.
Cons: Shifter is fragile and wears down quickly. You have to baby it; Will be out of warranty, no longer sold new.

g27
----
Pros: The shifter is stronger; warranty; better force feedback.
Cons: The gears (not car gears :P) in FF seem to break easily; Theres a slight oscillation/deadzone at 12 o'clock. It's tiny though; I hear the paddles don't work in gt5p; More expensive by 25%.

I'm a semi-newbie so I think this will be great! I have a question though (kind of off topic), I press triangle before the race and is it just me, or not all cars in GT5:P work with the clutch?

EDIT: Thread starter should put a poll on what day or days will work out best for everyone so we can all have an agreement on which day we race.

Not having a clutch doesn't really bother me... The fact is, controls can't mimic a clutch and it doesn't really offer anything for game play... if you could stall your car leaving a pit box or something, maybe it would mean more to me... fact is, most cars don't need a clutch and you could probably drive a car with out a clutch after you've launched anyway so I don't really feel that I'm "cheating" or not being as authentic without a clutch.

The moveable shift is a nice touch, but I'll have to chance my current setup to allow me to mount it away from my wheel. Gives me something to do for that hour load time right!?

I'd be fine with the DFGT if it doesn't feel like the DF... Thanks for the reply! Anyone else that has any feedback or suggestions would be great... I am still a little stuck on what to do...

Correct, If the car doesn't have a clutch (eg nissan r35 gtr), then clutch doesn't work when you hit triangle. A quick test to see if clutch works is to press triangle in after it says "start" and tap clutch, the engine should rev.

hey mate and yes the g25 does have 900 degrees rotation
i have had mine for around 2 years now it cost me 250 quid off amazon the amount of enjoyment i have had out of the g25 is simply amazing it is a great wheel and has took some abuse i must say

the forcefeedback is brilliant and if set to high i could honestly say it could more than likely injure ure hand

the pedals are weighted and feel realistic the reason i got mine was for the 900 degrees rotation and for the clutch which works astonishingly well in gt5p all you have to do is press triangle when the races starts and off you pop its fantastic

you can get a relativley good condish one off ebay for around 80 -120 quid the last time i checked but the prices will prob be a bit higher as they will be cashing in for us gt5 fans wanting a good wheel

personally though i would not waste your money on a g27 as in all seriousness i dont think its as good but thats just my opinion as my g25 has the h shifter and i can then put it on the 1 up 1 down gearchange like the rally cars touring cars have etc this feature isnt on the g27 the only diffrence is the price tag and the rev light but in all seriousness when will you ever need a rev light when your looking at ure monitor

this is just my opinion and i would say go fish about and find a g25 you wont regret it man it is the best wheel and the g27 it fantastic and built to last

hope this helps :)

Actually, the triangle will also be your worst enemy, as you get tired your shifts will get sloppy and you'll miss them.

That happens, but the occasional missed shift while you get the hang of using it is a small price to pay for the special joy that comes from kicking in the clutch to cut the power for the Scandinavian Flick that the hairpins on Eiger Nordwand are begging for.

The deadzone talk on the G27 scares me a bit!... How about the FF? Is it smooth or does it feel like your turning a car that has rocks in the steering box?

There are two benefits to having clutch.

1. when drifting, you can pop the clutch to break the wheels and make your drifts longer if you're starting to regain grip.

2. When in a low powered car, coming out of the corner you can push the clutch in and rev the engine, letting you raise the revs up and get more torque than if you didn't have clutch. You can also use this trick if for any reason you accidently let your revs drop out of powerband.

I only tried my friends, but it felt like the g25 only with an added forcefeedback component. It's like g25 forcefeedback with added vibration when you go over rumble strips or bumps. Best way I can describe it.

It is superior to g25 forcefeedback and if I remember correctly the motors are faster so you get more realistic/faster suspension feel, good for countersteering when drifting.

Wrong it teaches you proper technique for using all three pedals at once eg heal toeing down shifts, left foot braking when you need to worry about clutch and sometimes heal toe gas where you brake really hard while heal toeing than you need to gas but do not have enough time to left foot brake so you use your heal to gas and brake at the same time to balance your car through a corner.
Here are real life examples
Heal toe down shifts

I just bought a DFGT today! Hopefully it'll be here in the morning, I'm so excited I can't sleep lol

Yeah dude, you will not regret it. I've only used it on F1 2010 so far and i love it! I just wish i had a much sturdier desk to use it on! i may build myself one if i have to. :)

I have a G27 but Ive never used it for a GT game (Skipped Prologue). Ive only used it in NFS: Shift. Do I qualify?

Sure why not? Everyone could join if they feel they can do 2 thing.

1. Contribute something positive to the experience, I.E have fun and help others who may be struggling.

2. See the benefit of growing with others in a certain field. Learning from each other and sharing your experience with other drivers.
