I liked it! To me it feels more predictable, I can finally drive my heavily modified road cars hard, and feel like I'm getting the most out of them. And it is great to do top speed runs again, the cars are more stable at high speeds, without feeling "floaty" like before.

I tried a few road cars for now, the Audi DTM and a few of my fake '00s GT2 cars.
I have mixed feelings about the update:
  • There is less grip. Lots of understeer on grippy tyres. Rear breaks loose very often and rather easily on road cars or anything with Sports, however they are pretty easy and fun to catch. So it's not day 1 levels of death.
  • While there is less grip, cars feel much more planted overall, which contributes to a weird "soapy" feeling. Cars are really stable on entry and mid-corner, like VERY stable, but then they slide into the grass like there's not enough weight on the front. They just go straight
  • Kerbs are much better for me, they are still deadly if attacked at a poor angles, but road cars can now handle downhill Kyoto chicane for example, without flying off the track. (Death chicane is a bit better, not much).

Overall there's less grip pretty much all around except when coasting and under braking. The go pedal either understeers or oversteers, that's pretty much it.

This discussion is making me very interested in trying some of these out when I get done working later.

My experience is completly the opposite from yours...
I tried two roadcars(Testarossa and the 74 Countach) so far and both behave better and seem to be quicker after the update, while the Gr3 Jaguar sucked badly at fist but feels just like before with TC2(while I was using TC 1 before)
I built a 600pp Testarossa yesterday (before update) and ran two races at Tokyo Expressway, winning both with 30 secs to spare. It handled resaonably well on standard suspension and could hit 199mph on the straight (on Sport mids) + I got the clean bonus both times 'cos it's an absolute rocket ship :-)

When I get home tonight I'll try it again post update and compare results

Just been on with a few cars and it's great. My tuned Mazda 3 developed some undertsteer which I fixed with ride height, stabiliser and downforce but to be expected as it was tuned. Stock GR3 corvette had no undertsteer and was as tail happy as ever. Other cars I drive were all great. Most of my pp ratings have gone down too, not sure if others have noticed the same? All in all, great update, no issues with car handling here.

Holy cow this update is significantly better. Over and understeer feel much more realistic, they've really hyped up the road surface ffb, weight transfer feels significantly better. Playing on a T300RS and it legit feels better than ACC ever did. They've nailed it. Already done the WTC race:

Finally they gave us an in between 0 and 1 TC setting, and it's now number 1. 2 is like it was before the update

I personally really like the new physics. All the cars I've driven so far (using dualsense) feel great, more realistic and natural to drive.
Even when using the Mazda 787 on RM tyres with TC set to 1, the car felt great and I didn't notice any glaring issues.
In fact I beat my old time on on the Mission 20, 1 lap race on Trial Mountain, by 2secs on my first attempt and ending up get a time 6secs faster than my previous best time.
Will do some more races later with some of my favourite GT3 cars and will report back so far I'm very happy.

I've only driven the CLK-LM and Escudo since the last update but the CLK-LM and the Audi DTM seem to lose grip very easily at low speeds, I used to be able to enter turns such as at Sardegna with full gas now I have to be careful on the throttle.

It also seems to effect AI cars too as some of them have what I like to call the "Fully modded F40 effect" where they randomly snap to the left or right when before they did not do that.

I just finished a testing session with the GT3 RS, AMG GT Black and Nismo gr3. I'm okay with the physics update but not the ABS change. There's definitely more understeer all around, especially the race car, but it's manageable. The snap understeer is also manageable and not at all like the original physics. I'll do one more test tomorrow.

I'll make a thread about ABS.
May I recommend Forza Horizon or Grand Theft Auto then? 🤔
How about I recommend a motorsport engineering degree then?

Hi what settings (torque and sensitivity) are you using on your T300 ? Did you change anything after the update ?

300 miles in and really enjoying it, the limit is in a different place now but once you go over it things are much more savable.

I know there are people sad about the Super Formula but it was totally ridiculous before and now feels like a car you have to drive instead of going along for the ride.

New physics… this is the weirdest tyre wear I’ve ever seen, coming from the Porsche 959 on Sarthe.

Hello i'm pater27, maybe you see my profile on GT7. Search keyword 499p to find me...

I'm driving with a venerable Thrustmaster T500RS on PS5 with a PS4 disc updated to PS5 version.
First problem was T500RS not supported on PS5 version, forcing me back on PS4 version when driving...

New and bigger problem is 1.31 update turning my steering into a weak and floating jelly, no matter which car i try to drive...
Did i miss some settings to correct this ?

Any information from the community or quick patch from Polyphony welcome !!!
Finally i found someone with the same problem as me. I play on a ps4 with the T500RS and my wheel's also weak. I've even put the FF force and sensitivity on 10 but everything is bugged.

Okay so this update is the real deal. I've come back from work and thought 'what was the most difficult car to handle before' and of course the answer is the De Tomaso Mangusta. I have one that's race-prepped but has always had to have significant ballast and placement to get it to drive at all, and then it had that knife-edge feeling to it.

Load it up at Saint Croix, and I decide to take all the ballast off and put it on sports softs.

What a revelation.

The car slides when it's meant to slide. There is lift off oversteer and power understeer, what you should expect for a car of it's type and it's weight distribution. Get on the power early and you can kick the rear out ever so slightly. It rolls through corners nicely. The FFB in the DD Pro is very communicative now, the wheel goes lighter and feels more vague when there's less weight on the front end. This is what it should do...

It was the perfect test of what PD have claimed to change and it was fantastic.

Just got home from work and started testing the new update at Sardegna with the M6 GT3 (my grinding GT3 car - no tune) and at first glance, I quite like the new physics....I can't quite place it yet but oddly enough I feel like I have a bit more confidence with the car. I noticed I'm getting a bit more feedback from my G29 as well. I definitely had to change my breaking points because it was understeering quite a bit and I bumped up the TCS to 2 to keep things tame even though the rear would still come loose but I've managed to catch it everytime which I couldn't do before and switched brake balance to +4. My lap time is still consistent if not a bit faster based on the strategy I use.

By the way, did they change the tire wear as well? I couldn't finish the WTC800 without changing tires even with the hard and now they last the whole 15 laps 😯....so far I'm quite happy with this....now to try the NSX GT3.

I don't want to tune a car ever. Especially road cars. We're not all teenagers with unlimited hours or adults with only 1 hobby to put all our time into it.
To be fair, tuning should be about improving a car or adjusting it to suit YOU. It should not be about fixing broken set ups.

The 3.0 CSL is the perfect example. It's undriveable without a tune, and that should never be the case. The CSL should not be less driveable than a 911.

And engine swaps should not make a car tail happy all of a sudden.

A little movement under braking was fine, this "fix" is dumb. And the behaviour under ABS is completely unrealistic. If people want lockups and understeer under braking, turn off the ABS. With ABS on, it should turn under braking, which is what ABS is designed for. Tires don't magically lose grip and cause understeer when the ABS is engaged.

This is completely unenjoyable. It's the worst physics in the history of the game.

Did Gr.3 using the Toyota and went from 9th to 1st... Binned it at the last corner on lap 6 LOL. I'm digging the new physics.
I typically run Gr3 cars with TC set to 0, I did the same during this race. Maybe I'll experiment with toggling it to setting 1 on that last turn.

However, IMO the car is completely manageable with the new driving physics.

I'm digging the improved FFB and the feeling of adhesion that wasn't previously there. It def feels closer to ACC now.

As someone who drives "stock" cars with a Dual Sense controller primarily, this physics update feels both good and bad.

The good part is that the joystick of the controller feels more smooth - but at the same time, it feels more like driving a boat than a car. Cars feel heavier and maybe that's a bit more realistic in a way?

The bad part is that the way cars drive feels "flatten" compared to before. In a way that I can't see many differences between cars anymore. I've tried the stock Porsche 911 Turbo (930) 81, Clio V6 24V, NSX Type R 92 and 02, Corvette ZR1 C4 89, Lamborghini Diablo GT 00, Honda S2000 and Toyota MRS GTS 97 (stock tyres, base controller settings). Except for the Diablo, which has a lot more power than the other cars, it feels like I'm driving the same car. The LSD settings seem to have been changed again and it's now a lot harder to lose the rear end when you re-accelerate. And when you lose it, it's easier to manage and save. Tyres also have way more grip than before. Comfort Soft tyres now feel like previously Sport Medium tyres in a way. Slow corners feel very weird too. The cars feel heavier and turn less otherwise, but suddenly in slow corners, they gain an insane amount of grip and turn way more.

Of course, when there are major changes like this, it's normal to feel lost at first. After two hours yesterday, it felt like I had just started playing this game again. So I will need to try it more to see how I feel about it.

As another member said, it feels very polarizing. Some people love it, some people hate it. There doesn't really seem to be a middle ground. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to street cars, I feel that what we gained in handling, we lost in personality.

I feel like this update made it much harder for people that play on the DualSense. I had a top 10 time for Autopolis CE in Sector 2 before the 1.31 update and now I can barely beat the demonstration time.

The Gr.2 cars understeer like crazy on entry and then snap oversteer on exit no matter how gentle you are on the throttle, it's really frustrating.

Guess I should buy a wheel? This feels like a completely different game on the DualSense and it's a bummer because I was really enjoying the previous physics model.

Finally got to play for a new bit with the new physics and drove the AMG, Mustang, Vette, Supra, GT around Dragon Trail. Initial impressions are actually very good. At least from what I would want. Everything feels much more realistic now. The cars, turning, weight and FFB all feel much more "accurate". Before I could throw the cars around like an arcade racer. Now they feel more planted and alive. Yeah some things are gone and the cars do understeer a lot more than they used to....but they all just seem so much more planted. The Mustang with TCS to 0 is a handful. Now it's more predictable. I can actually put power through a turn in second gear and not end up next to the cruise ship at DT.

The FFB is noticeable. With the physics and the FFB changes (G29 with modded pedals) I actually feel like I'm driving a real car now.

Nothing to complain about. Driving in VR with T300RS feels more realistic than ever. FFB is now more detailed and the cars I've tested behave more predictably. That new Mazda 3 with some fine tuning and more power is an absolute pleasure to drive. Two thumbs up!
