I've noticed the last year or so a lot of new people joining the service with less then stellar racecraft. I also noticed a lot of experienced members not holding back in names they called these "newbies", in fact there were a lot of facetious names used.

Up until late yesterday I held my tongue for the most part, sure I ran into a lot of bad drivers but anyone that says sorry for an incident they caused are at least trying if nothing else. I am over a 3.6 now in my "C" license and have been deliberately taking my time moving up in the service. I race strictly road and my favorite car is the Riley DP, last nights race was at Watkins Cup and as usual I didn't qualify.

There were 21 of us and I think I was 14 or 15 on the grid. This guy behind me almost took me out on the warmup lap (behind the pace car) Well anyone that's raced at Watkins know what turn 1 is like. I take it usually in 3rd gear, when I am alone, but 21 cars and we were at like 30 MPH, this guy behind me dive bombs me and hits 4 or 5 cars on turn 1.

I catch him and pass him on the next lap, then on lap 3 I catch up to the herd and right at the bus stop here comes this guy and he hits me doing 120 MPH, I mean I had to slow to 30 or 40 MPH there was just a large group. Now my car is toast, I drive back to the pits but I can't keep it on the road.

I am pissed off now, what bothers me the most this guy doesn't say sorry at all. I get to the pits and I have like 26 minutes of repair. I call this guy out and ask him what his problem is, nothing, no reply. A few laps later he takes someone else out and it's the same rouitine, this time he quits, disconnects and he's gone.

After the race I check him out, he's like a "C" 2.00 and he has 3 months into the Service, all racing incidents BTW, total BS, this guy is an XBOX racer and he is going nowhere fast. I sent him a polite letter, sort of pointing out safety before speed, something tells me he's not too sharp and cares less.

So what's the answer? I can do 100 laps at Watkins Cup and maybe get 2 incidents. This guy wouldn't be close and who would even want to race if your racecraft was so poor? As all as he accomplished was getting a few people mad, I am sure this happens all the time and to a lot of different people. What can be done to fix this, I'm starting to get pissed off with this type of racer.

Unless iRacing decides to get rid of fast tracking or they do something that makes it alot harder for loonies to even race I suggest more league racing.
Like GTPFIA :D :D
God I hate loonies...

As to guys like that who don't apologize or even respond when they have been called out...Welcome to our world. Its hard to believe people behave like that without any self control but there are so many people in this world. Full of character. There's bound to be a large population of loonies.

I feel your pain, and it's sad that someone with that mindset some how makes it into higher classes to ruin races for other racers. There is a huge difference from the wreckers to people who just make a mistake which sometimes they come across as wreckers. Hopefully Iracing finds out a way to really change how people race together, or something.

Loonies are OK, as long as they try. It's the guys that think they can do no wrong. They can beat their buddies at XBOX racing but only because they pick big cars to mow people down.

I was getting very high incidents per race. 10-12 sometimes, I think I even had a 20 something and I did take some that were my fault. You know 2 wheels into the grass, I rarely hit someone else. I was aggressive but mostly safe, well that's what I thought. You go toe to toe with someone you're bound to get tagged sooner or later.

It was my style, now that I have been racing the DP with a higher class of racers I have been keeping the incidents down. I've seen some folks change their account's name 2 or 3 times in order to get their average down. :) Seriously, I now put (my) safety 1st before speed. I never drove like the guy from last night though. :)

Agree with first paragraph 100%

You can even notice this in our very own forums. Go into the iracing.com thread and there's always someone giving a 'noobie' advice on how to fast track as opposed to racecraft!

Good post left!

I'd assume you've been racing online awhile, like most of this community.
It happens to us all from time to time, regardless of platform there are people that get a kick out of pissing you off.

I feel your pain Left888. this week i had the same thing. Someone "at the front" span his car at the warmup at the Mustang cup. atleast 5 cars came together in a incident.

When i started I racing until now, people gave me advice to drive save to avoid those reckless drivers. In some cases it helps but to be fair even if you are the most defensive, clean & best driver you usually can't avoid those loonies. Its more like having "luck" you don't have to deal whit them. Even though i drive more to have good SR instead of speed. I gained alot of incident points and still have a good rathing of 3-4 almost 5.00. Its so easy to get the SR at the start.

I racing says everyone get incident points even if its not your fault becaus this is usually a small amount points. Well thats just a big fat lie. atleast 80% of my incident points are made by others.

When I start my subscription for iRacing i'll do a lot of offline practice first to avoid becoming one of these 'loonies' :)

Even in real F1 you get people like Pastor Maldonado so I'm really not surprised there are still drivers with terrible racecraft in the top license tiers of an online subscription-based simulation-game!
In theory you could get to class A in iRacing with a very high iRating and learn very little race craft if you continually qualify near the front and don't really race near anybody.

You ask if it can be fixed - don't race against the public? Only race in private races?
There will always be bad drivers, even when you have a system like in iRacing which is meant to prevent "dangerous" drivers getting to the top. It can never be perfect.

Offline practice is well and good but racecraft is everything. Anyone can go round a track cleanly when alone, but in a field of 21 cars its very different.

This is very true, but in some cases your wrong about one thing.. Anyone cannot go round a track cleanly when alone. And still they sign up for races. To race among 21 or even more cars beside you, you should at least be able to control your car and know the track.

I'm planing to attend to every race of the Grand Am in the Riley and to be honest with you, not all of those tracks can be done at this moment cleanly by me even when I'm alone. But by the time those track is to be raced I will be ready and that will be practice in a offline practice session.

I haven't been around iRacing for long, under two months and I fastracked my way to A-class licence. And all I tried to do was fast track out of rookie. And in rookie was probably where I was the longest.

I got D-Class and races 4-5 races and I had C-Class. Then I found Grand Am and started to race there. I was thinking WOW this is where I want to stay and I ignored the licence thing. I had so much fun racing and before I knew it the green B-Licence was there.

Then the season ended and the Grand Am showdown was about to happen. I love Indy Road so I decided I give it a chance. I ended up in the 3rd split and had a good starting position.. 7th if I remember correctly. I finished that race on 4th position and my SR got a tremendous boost.

So when season 3 started I just went into do 4 TimeTrials and my A-Licence was a done deal.

It was maybe done a bit to quick, but I really don't feel like my fast tracking into the higher series have ruined anyone's races as I have yet to be the one to blame when a incident occurred. I have been off track bad in one race so far and it wasn't because of idiot driving, but because of a blinker showing up some place I didn't expect and I went off trying to avoid contact.

I should have given the blinker more room of course, but it was the first couple of laps in a race and I couldn't slow down to much or I would have given up my place to the guys behind me. After all I'm here to race and not Sunday drive.

My driving style is quite diffrent from Practice/qualy and the race.

I make so many mistakes in qually or practise, this is becaus i am bored when running alone and can't concentrate. Or i am trying to much to do the perfect lap.

In race i am usually more relaxed and more carefull. There was a time were this was the otherway around.

I feel your pain Left, however I'm the type that enjoys driving on the limit and agressively all the time, certainly not bumping other cars but putting a ton of pressure on other drivers, mainly because I love it when the pressure is on me, makes for good racing. If theres one thing I don't enjoy about a lot of iracers is they put saftey over everything, they would rather finish the race with 0 incidentds than fight for a position. I don't really care too much about SR. I race to win. But I agree there are a ton of idiots out there that play iracing as if its forza, while the rest of us take it very seriously.

I feel your pain! I have had similar encounters with a few pilots. I believe they do think this is merely GT5 or Forza game on the PC so they run around hitting other cars without a care in the world.

I really have no clue how iRacing as it now stands can slow this down. There was a good article (more like an op/ed) in the A.S.S. mag on the iRacing protest system. The writer called for Nim and iRacing to not only penalize "intent" but to penalize "stupid" moves (such as you described above) that result in wrecking.
Maybe get rid of the fast track system? Or revise the time it takes to fast track.

I think it was good of you to try and educate the pilot. I do the same in similar incidents.
👍

iR has no effect on license (iibc it does for DWC/Pro?).

Anyway...as you mention fast tracking is the issue. Someone could get to 'A' license in one day without even racing against other people.

Unfortunately, some of us have extremely busy schedules and that precludes racing only in private races. Pickup racing does have its problems on iRACING but praise Allah it is nothing compared to GT5 pickup servers!

I have noticed in some of the less busy race series you will see the same people repeatedly. This helps to form bonds and to know how these other people race - you can predict what they are going to do on the track. However, I have noticed in the more crowded series this is not seen as frequently (imho, ymmv).

I know exactly what you mean Left. I mean, I'm haven't done that much in iRacing yet, and I'm not exactly very fast, but I always try to be clean and respect other racers. I was in a race in Street Stocks at Atlanta and I'm racing side by side with this guy, and he just slams into me. Some people should realize that iRacing isn't Forza or Need for Speed.

iR has no effect on license (iibc it does for DWC/Pro?).

No, but my point was that License+iRating doesn't = good racecraft. iRating is increased by race position, not by how well you drive. License is increased by number of incidents, which you can assume is down to racecraft but its not perfect.

People assume that if they see "Class C" or "Class A" that the driver is 100% safe and not an idiot. While this true most of the time...its not true all of the time. And the sooner people realise that, the sooner you just learn to accept that "thats racing" and you sometimes lose races because of other people's mistakes.

Driving on the edge is one thing but aggressive driving really has no place in iRacing, aggressive drivers are usually the ones with high incident levels and are like the guy I talked about in my opening statement.

Once you put safety over everything you learn how to do it like a champ and you will be a leader instead of that guy.

And you all said it was me...

I don't recall ever saying anything bad about you and I know for a fact you were not the guy I refereed to.

Can my name be updated from Mac to Mackenzie please?

I found your old account under "Mac Korince" but nothing under your new name "Mackenzie Korince", could you please clarify your new name.

ah, OK, it was an example...thanks for clarification of your statement! :)

No no no, you never did, I was just poking some fun is all.. And the name should be showing up, don't know why it wouldn't..

Aggressive doesn't mean unsafe, aggressive means I'm the asshole in your rearview that pushes you to make a mistake so I can pass, because as I stated I love when other drivers do that to me. I've never run anyone on the track since I was a rookie running the mx-5, I currently running the DP after several seasons with the SM, and driving agressively has worked great in this series, last race I started 14th and managed to make it all the way down to 3rd at the glen, and its unfortunate that a couple drivers actually slowed down to let me pass when I put pressure on them, to me thats ridiculous, and its not racing. Have you ever watched a real race? I've never seen this kind of behaviour in real racing, so why should I see it in simulation? Thats why I think after this season I'll go back to the SM because it seems like people fight for position more than safety rating.

I, like many other drivers don't pull over for guys like you. If someone is riding me tight in the corners or slight bumps and so forth I won't pull over. Sort of a two way street, even if you manage to get by me I might just throw a slight block sending you into the wall. :D

I am not the fastest out there by any means and when I see a much faster guy coming along biding his time, I will facilitate a clean pass because he has earned my respect. People like you should stick to XBOX racing. :)

That's a tad harsh my friend..

Perhaps, but I don't want or need to race with any assholes, life is full of them and I don't want to race with folks with that attitude.

You start this thread wanting to know what can be done about people crashing you and then post something like this. If you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen. He clearly stated he doesnt run into people just puts pressure on them. Obviously you cant take the pressure so the best thing is for you to get out of the way and let the real racers by. Crashing them because they put some pressure on you is childish. Perhaps you should return to the console.
