Psst. Hey guys. There is not going to be a 'skyline GTR version'. Its going to be a Nissan/Infiniti GTR. Not a Nissan/Infiniti Skyliine GTR.

Yes.. we mention that. They are going to kill the Skyline out. Anyways i hope they sell it under Nissan in the state but thats not likely its going to be probably "Infiniti GT-R"

Why is Nissan going from the I6 to the V6 on the Skyline? Is it because of Renault's voice in this decision?

edit: rollazn posted faster than I did :P I get it now, sorry.

 Im good like that :sly:

JK

Anyways, i think the reason they are changing from a I6 to a V6 is because Inline arent enviroment friendly or did not meet some specification or restriction of some sort. That is the reason that Inline 6 are dieing out fast. The main reason i perfer I6 over V6 is because the Inline are lighter.

I have no idea if Renault have anything to do with it or not. If they did, I hate Renault. I admire Renault to help Nissan out during its time of need when Nissan went bankrupsy but still. Renault owns 51% of Nissan.

Most likely we wont see anymore Inline 6s.

Props to that ;)

hm.... How can a V6 be different from an Inline 6? Won't the firing order be the same? I don't know, but I'm judging this off of a cylinder-count basis.

Well, I don't think we'll see anymore Inline 6's from Nissan at least. BMW still has the same engine layout and GM is using the I6 in their trucks now, even in the Suzuki sedan! (I think)

Do you mean in America or Japan/Europe?

Mmmm, I think what is actually happening on the ground in Japan is different than whats going to happen in the US or anywhere else for that matter.

I seen interviews with Ghosn where he talks about dropping the Skyline name for the GT-R, but thats pretty much because in the US, the Skyline name doesn't, and never will have a footing there. I realize US people "in the know" are aware of the Skyline, but thats all. In Japan (where I've lived with my Japanese wife for 3.5 years) the Skyline name is a huge drawcard. Skyline car clubs in Japan have since 2001 expressed their disgust at the idea of dropping the Skyline name for a potential GT-R model.

We might see Ghosn take back what he said about dropping the Skyline name for the GT-R in Japan at least.

Skyline isn't an "established name" in the states, but neither was Viper...

If the car comes to forition, and is not a one trick pony, it will make the big time.

I don't think it will be an infiniti GTR becasue infiniti is a luxury brand. I know the G35 sport coupe is an infiniti but it's still a luzury car even though it's basically a 350Z. I think that it will be released under nissan as all the sports cars have. teh 300ZX the 350Z etc. the G35 sport coupe is too much of a luxury thing IMO to be a nissan.

Do you get what I'm trying to say?

"Infiniti will begin offering an all-wheel-drive version of its hot-selling G35 sedan, fitted with Nissan's ATTESA E-TS (electronic torque split) system, in early December. Now comes word that an upcoming G35 platform mate, the Skyline GT-R, will get not only ATTESA E-TS but also a twin-turbo V-6 tuned by Cosworth. Producing in the neighborhood of 480 horsepower, the new V-6 features twin-turbo motor assist, a technology employed during off-boost periods—say, when idling—that temporarily turns the GT-R into a naturally aspirated car. Here's how it works: When off boost, magnetic valves open to form a bypass that redirects exhaust gas around the turbos and directly into the precatalysts; when on boost, the valves close and channel exhaust gas into the turbos. The net effect is a car reportedly capable of meeting strict emissions regulations around the world. Don't expect to see the GT-R, likely labeled an Infiniti when it comes to America, till 2005 or 2006. "

By that statement, it said dont expect to see the GT-R any time soon, and it will be likely labeled an Infiniti when it comes to America, till 2005 or 2006.

Thats what i think it meant.

I also get your point GT-R but im pretty sure, even though the GT-R will be mostly all performance it will still be under the name infiniti. I rather have the Nissan name better thats just me. Im the same with lexus and toyota, and Honda and Acura.

The NSX was labeled Acura, why tho. Its not that luxuriues. At least i wouldnt call it that. I rather it be Honda NSX then Acura NSX but then again its all in your opioion.

as mentioned by Jermey Clarkson the other day on Top Gear, how many people would pay top money (well not Ferrari money but still quite abit) for a Honda. Maybe Acura was just a sales thing.

Well, i get what he is saying, but to me it dont really matter. I mean its just a name but i guess that can mean alot to another person. Its like you wont pay alot of money for a Toyota but you will for a Lexus. Its the same thing in my book. I rather have the JDM name. I mean i know which probably sound more "Luxuries" a Lexus IS300 and a Toyota Altezza, but its the same car and to me thats all that counts.

Even tho, i rather have the Toyota nameplate im one of those person that would change an Acura symbol to a Honda. I seen about two Lexus IS300 that was change to a Toyota Altezza. Its pretty unique. Some people say im crazy but im like that :D :banghead:

 Wouldnt it be easier just changing all Infiniti badges and etc to Nissan. All Infiniti OEM parts to Nissan GT-R OEM parts.

I mean i can settle for a Infiniti GT-R, as long as its a GT-R im fine, I would rather have the Nissan nameplate but i wouldnt go that far to get it from japan and shipped over here wouldnt that cost alot.

I heard rumors that the GT-R project has been called off but thats probably not true. GT-R_guy you heard anything about that?

As i said before, its all true. But to me I rather have the orginal manufactor name. I would know why people would rather buy a Acura over Honda or Lexus over Toyota etc... Im different. :D

Importing a car from Japan is surprisingly "cheap".

It's the legalization/conversion that cost's an arm and a leg.

hm... i never thought it would be "cheap", but hey if it is then GT-R_guy wont have to spent that much. Do you still have to legalize it even tho it exist in the USA? Lets say i want to import a Honda Integra Type R (DC5) aka RSX. If i import it, will they have to legalize it through all that test? Wouldnt the crash test and all the other tests imported cars have to go through?

I heard of it on the GTR.CO.UK site. I think it's utter crap, why the hell would they release all these press releases saying they're going to make it and then scrap it without a word. What motive whould they have to cancel it?

Dude names dont mean crap what if the enzo would be badged as a geo metro, would you not buy it because of the name?

I never said anything about not buying it for the name at all. I wouldnt care if the GT-R was a geo metro i would still buy it. I agree name mean nothing to me. I just simply said i rather have, my own perfrence, Nissan then Infiniti. Thats just the way i am. As i noted before I would take an Infinti GT-R, its still the GT-R right. I dont mind the name. Just saying i rather have Nissan but if it comes in Infiniti i wont mind at all.

Didnt you say, you wanted to import the "Nissan GT-R" Because the USA verison will have Infiniti, or was you being sarcastic?

I'm not sure, I know there is a loophole for people in the military..

And I've seen people with RHD Crx's, but I have next to no knowledge on the subject.. ::Shrug

yeah, you need to have all the tests done. The cassis will probably be the same but the engine in the US usually has a lower output than that of their japanese counterparts.

I heard it from a friend. Im sure he got it from GTR.CO.UK site. I guess your right. I have to hear the statement from Nissan Offical to believe it.

Just like the Silivia. Nissan stated that the Silvia is no more, that they are killing the silivia line. That was offically stated by Nissan so i know there wont be any more Silvia to come, unless Nissan change its mind. I have seen photoshopped pictures of the "S16" but its all fake.

I thought skylines were the only RHD cars that are approved for import. Maybee they were RHD conversions. Theres no loop hole they still have to legalize them but I think they have a longer grace period or something...

When I lived in Santa Ana CA, I saw two legit RHD CRX's, and Super Street featured one not too long ago.

I also remember a guy that was in the military who brought over an S13, and the loop hole stated he could have the vehicle in the states for a period of one year.

That was over 3 years ago, and it was just recently sold and converted to a drag car..
