[NEW] Time Trial Overtake Challenge. Starring: BRZ, HSV, GT-R N24

Silver on first two and gold with the GTR. Carefully navigating traffic was a pain.

Anyone know what time of day the GTR event is set at? Lighting was gorgeous!

Around 5:00 in the morning.

My favorite time is from 4:00 (pitch black) to around 6am. Such a lovely transition!

The first two are fine, but the GTR N24 '12 is a terrible car, you can't brake into corners, and has terrible grip even on Racing Hards.

Just finished on the Suzuka overtake combo for the night and then i looked at the online leaderboard to see i had left tcs on default 5 :ouch: I wondered why it felt different from when i drove it earlier in the day :dunce:

Will go back for more tomorrow... wicked combo 👍 I have not tried the other 2 yet, I usually check if 1st place is clean before attempting the combo and Tokyo was not clean so gave it a wide berth 👎
The Nurb combo looks cool too

Had another run in these today.

Getting there, but a couple of passes I need to learn before getting really good times... Haven't managed to get inside the Golf in to turn 2 at R246, so only 172nd

If u drive 1-sector faster that 21.850 - u can overtake Golf a little bit before the corner.
I think its a key corner for that TT.
Now my time is 1:05.107 for 28 poision, but i see 0.2-0.3 more in second corner, when car not touch Golf in corner and have more speed on exit.

Only complaint I have is that these are very short and easy. But still no srf is still awesome. With pd you need to set your expectations really low and when you do that they sometimes manage to do something decently.

It wouldn't be so bad if the penalty system wasn't a bit on the wonky side. Sometimes you can almost plow into the car ahead of you. Other times, you barely scrape the car beside you (or they scrape you), and you're DQ'd.

On the nurb I ploughed into the red car forcing him off the circuit while I did a 360 spin. No penalty.

On same circuit I literally skim the car in front on the second corner. Disqualified.. why?!?

This event made me realize just how bad of an driver I really am. (not bad as in bumping/blocking etc. But as in slow :P) I really struggled on the HSV event, used like a good 6-8 hours on that one.

You have to really attack that first section and the s curves and dive up the insides turning in early and using the power to push you back out again.

Again there's key positions you need to have overtaken a certain car by so you don't have to manoeuver around them mid corner. Tc set to one if allowed.

There's an American in 1st place on the BRZ challenge. He's using a DS3..... but it's not me

Event was a fun diversion. I admittedly had no idea that you only needed a gold time - I had to give the effort of getting a gold time and coming in first.

Tokyo took exactly three runs, and in the first two I got tagged by the Golf exiting the turn and penalty.
Suzuka took me a while, since I didn't realize you only needed a gold time - passed the other HSV entering the hairpin and somehow pulled it off.
Nurburgring was by FAR the hardest - the AI has no concept of letting you have any room to pass (biggest offenders are the Falken GT-R and the Viper ACR...), the oversteering brakes were freaking ridiculously hard to deal with on a DS3 as well.

Not doing these again to improve my time.

I felt it weird that PD put some GT300 cars in the mix for suzuka. And holy hell that IS was ANNOYING. you really do just need to dive bomb the first corner. On another note, i love what PD has done to the HSV's engine. It sounds wicked!

I'm having trouble with the ring, but it's probably because i'm not used to the 24h Config. I do see how the GT-R is really stiff though, i'm glad i didnt purchase the DLC

I actually had to do quite a couple of restarts on Tokyo before I finally got gold, and also crossed the line in 1st. I was expecting the Suzuka one to be just as challenging, but managed to gold it on my first try (barely) while crossing the line in 2nd. The Honda handles well and is easy to drive fast.
/facepalm

I didn't realize that you didn't have to finish first to gold the time. >_< I was reading through this thread, trying to find tips on where to overtake everyone.

I kept consistently getting to the hairpin *just* as the other HSV was pulling out of it, but I kept restarting at that point. S'pose I'll have another go at it tonight. :)

It's in the dealership. The only car not available in the dealerships is the HSV.

No theres two versions, the 2011 which is in the dealership and the 2012 which is dlc, released with the BRZ and HSV10

You're right! I was thinking of the Scion FR-S which is in the dealership. And yes, the newer GT-R 24H is DLC, too.

Been quite sometime since i last played this game due to my schedule lately. I finally had a couple of free mins last night so i decided to turn on the PS3 and play.

Due to time constraints i only had a go with the BRZ. Was quite a challenge reminds me of GTAcademy 2012.

Using my DS3 directional buttons X and square for gas and brakes respectively i managed to snatch a time of 1:05.410. All aids off except for ABS which is set to 1. :)

Hope i find enough time to try the other 2 plus the 2 TTs!

Cheers guys! :)

Since there is damn lot of talk regarding GT-R's oversteering brakes, here are some advices to tackle that beautifully balanced vehicle:

  • GT-R is AWD car with default equal balance on F/R axis, almost street suspension and it is fitted with Race Hard tyres,
  • The Oversteering Brakes™ are consequence of braking while steering, AKA you begin to steer while the brakes are still pressed,
  • In order to get maximum brake efficiency you should forget usual "brake while turning" praxis - instead you should brake in straight line before turning and then turn after the brakes are fully released
  • Also take a note about the actual engine-type of the car: it is an Turbo engine with low-rpm torque. In order to avoid nasty over-rev and torque-attack on the differential (thus: oversteer) you should brake in higher gear (4th for example) and lower to turn-in gear (2nd for example) once your revs have been properly balanced for engaging clutch into movement
  • PROTIP: you can actually alter brake-bias in the Overtake Challenges and this particular car benefits from it by greatest margin. You can access Brake Balance menu through RA Adjust functionality. My personal setting would be 5/1 (F/R) for ABS-OFF setting which basically eradicates oversteering brakes completely

Hope this will help 👍

Thanks Amar. I was driving the GTR with ABS off and several times the B/B would revert to default 5/5. Talk about oversteering brakes!

Just had just 3 or 4 runs in the GTR and did it. Golded and won the race also, 1:44.814.

Don't know how the top blokes are shaving over 4 sec's off that.

Have now golded all but only came second at Suzuka. Work to do. On on!

Was lucky enough to have a few mins of free spare time last night so i decided to go with the HSV. Fantastic neutral handling car! As everyone else says it is indeed a good car to drive! Very nice engine note too! :)

I managed to put in a 1:12.829 using my DS3 directional buttons to steer X and square buttons for gas and brakes respectively. 5/5 BB as i dont have RA menu access.

BRZ Tokyo - 1:05.410
HSV Suzuka - 1:12.829

The holy week is going to start vacation time is GT time! The infamous N24 GTR that everyone seems to hate here would be next! :)

Cheers everyone!! :)

Really enjoyed this new overtaking event though like everybody has already said, the GTR was a bloody nightmare. Attacking that chicane really is the key to completing the event.

Took 10 turns or so to get used to the BRZ and got through eventually.

The HSV at suzuka was seriously nice to drive. Absolutely loved the noise it made and its such a nice care to control! Took me a few times to get this one due to a few stupid mistakes but i wasnt that bothered as i wanted to drive it quite a bit anyway.

I'd rather not talk about the GTR. Spent about 40 minutes trying it when i was sober and didnt even get close to finishing. Turn up the next morning completely hungover and somehow manage to complete it on my 2nd go. Not sure how that happened.

Unfortunately i didn't get a decent car with the ticket but oh well. Can have everything!

Any one else get jacked from the 1000 ticket? Got them finally done yesterday prior to reset time. Saw the ticket in the truck, left to save game, came back in and no ticket available. Looked at the seasonals again and all Gold, paint chips there too along with the restore tickets.

Yea I got jacked. They gave me an mx5 for my 1000 ticket. I'll send it you if your feeling left out?

All good bud  Normally rip tickets till sometime comes out but no problem. Hopefully other accounts do not have issues. :nervous:
