Many GT users are used to using RS, RM, and even RH in the "wet" that normally appears in GT games. This is the first in a long while where you actually need intermediates or better.

I found that starting on intermediates and changing on about lap 7 to another set of intermediates (my GT-R also needed about 30l of fuel) saw me through. In terms of when to change tires, I found that once the tyres got down to 3, with my style of driving, a spin out was more and more likely.

Check out the times and places of 11th place onwards in the following photo. (13th place was +1:04:xx but I missed that photo.) This was happening when GT6 first came out but went away for a while:

Its been almost a year now that most of us ran through the story-progression phase of the game. I think its the second to last section, the one with 'like the wind', that had this games version of introduction to rain racing.
And I remember very well, after 1 single lap, I changed to RH, restarted the race, and whipped through them all with RH's like butter. . . and never looked back or even thought about it, until now that is.
So we are siding on "they fixed it" ?
I'm not going with that, they changed it, yeah. But I dont like the effects as the rain changes. There is a HUGE difference between just wet roads, and wet roads while its raining and beating off the surface. While I was testing this one out, I almost want to say that when the rain stopped, the roads started ICEing over, lol. I live in Maine U.S., and trust me, I know exactly how that feels. :scared:

Am finding this very difficult, track seems very slippery even at 0% rainwater. Need to do 1:57s when dry. Best with TS030 but 2nd set of Inters went off suddenly at the last chicane and ended up losing, from 10 sec ahead to 2 seconds back with two spins.

This is a real S-class race.

Yeah....it's weird in these conditions. I swear the car drove better when it was pouring down rain and like 78% wet ...lol. Then it stopped raining and my inters still had a lot of tread on them but every corner was a spin. I had to just watch every line...every lap.

I guess it is realistic if you think about it, why the back end will just twitch out mid-corner...I spose if you are just slightly off the line, which is somewhat dry, like on a real track you lose traction in a heartbeat. I just wish you could see the dry line like you can on a real track. The whole track looks dry, except when it's raining.

Make sure you're staying on the racing line as best you can, even a bit of a wheel onto the wet bit off that line will cause the car to slide like crazy. Somewhat realistic if you're really loading the car up.

Tried this real quick last night and quickly was reminded how much I suck at driving in the rain. Both times I ended up off the track multiple times without even achieving Bronze....ended up with a DNF. Will have to come back to it when I have a bit more patience.

This race is so funny , i try with 06' Arta NSX five time , three of the five try finished on 0 - 0 rear tire durability caused by One single drift occurred cause of accelerator pedal was lift to fast . the durability jauge was like 3_2_10000 and your done .. every time on 7 or 8 lap on the 2nd set of tire . So i only manage to finish 2 races at 15 & 13... Boring and almost not fun at all with a pad controller , i miss my steering wheel so much right now :nervous:

Used my trusty TS03. It was a fun and close race through the rain but when the rain dissipated and the lead AI pitted, it was over and I won by 30 plus secs. BTW< I pitted at the end of L5 just for tires.

Great win and best 1,100,000 credits, won by .27 secs over the Calsonic, had lap times of 1:57.6 to 2:27 (pit out lap), and a couple of spins. IM tires both stints pitting after L6. Last half of L10 nursing tires on 3 and just barely made it around the final hairpin with shredded rubber. The Calsonic was running 1:56 on RS. Great seasonal!

(Edit) Even sunset looked like 5:00 pm and in line with the main straight which is about 06 Nov 14 according to the sun charts for Nurburgring.

(Edit) Just an FYI, the qualifying times for the Sep 14 Blancpain GT3 race range from 1:55.7 to 1:59.1. Those are a little faster than GT500 cars at 620PP? More marks for verisimilitude.

Done with 787B inter tires until lap 7 pit to add 1/4 tank of fuel and Soft Slick for an easy win with a 1st position on lap 5 and -45s on the 2nd at the flag .

Took me a while to figure out the pattern, now I've done this event 4 times for the cash of course. Best win was 52s infront I started off not liking this event then I gave it another chance now I really enjoy this event!
Hope all you racers are having fun aswell! 👍

Got to baby your tires on this one. I ran intermediates and pitted after lap 5, that seemed to work out best for me. They won't let you get away with RH tires like you can in the other rain races. Of course to add insult to injury, I had 49,640,000 +/- before I ran it the second time.
Must pay closer attention to the bank, hate giving away credits...

I ran against the 50m rev limiter, too--even though I bought every base model car this morning and painted them in Christmas livery.

I used the Chaparral 2J '70 to easily win, despite three stupid penalties and having no headlights! Make sure you have racing line set to "on" so you can see the track! Also... I only pitted on lap 9 and only used intermediate tires for the whole race. I THINK I could have made it the full 10 laps without running out of gas.... BUT, I can't guarantee it. Maybe I will try later tonight and see if it is possible.

I used the 2J too for this one, and I can confirm that the 2J with reduced power can complete the race without running out of gas. Used RS tires then pitted on Lap 3 for intermediates. Pitted again on Lap 8 to switch back to RS but I think I could of gotten away with only pitting once instead of twice. Didn't realise how dark it was at the end of the race!
Once you figure out the weather pattern any car can do this race. I'm gonna try some more cars later this week and see how I get on.

I agree with this totally. Tried RS tires with 2J with TCS 1 and spun out every corner of lap 5.
Has the grip levels been set to 'Real' instead of 'Low' perhaps?

Fun event, a nice change from the norm 👍 Nice to see PD make some sort of effort to spice up their extra bland potatoes

Tried this first with a Nissan GTR GT3 Basemodel, and struggled.

Came back after a break, switched to an HSV, and won easily the first try. I believe I'm using a Motor City tune.

I started in Inters, pitted from first at the end of lap 7, dropping me to second. Switched to RM, and easily caught the MOTUL Z at the start of lap 9 (going extremely slow) to retake first. I had a spin at Dunlop Curve on lap 8, so the CALSONIC GTR was within sight behind me. Ended up winning by 6 seconds.

The dry line is very narrow!! Barely wider than a car. On racing tires, dropping even half a tire off the dry line during high load situations is enough to cause a spin, or at least break traction.

The Inters give you more freedom to roam off the driving line during "intermediate" wet times. As the surface water starts to build over about 60%, it becomes increasingly important to stay on the "dry line" (err, less wet). Also, the Inters wear very quickly in dry conditions.

Has anyone test running on Inters, but off the racing line, during dry conditions?

First I went and bout a 1 mil credit car and bought all the tires and turbos so I wouldn't loose the prize money. It took me 2 attempts. 1st time I tried the TS030 thinking that since it was a hybrid it would be better on fuel. Also started on Intermediate tires, but it was hard on tires. On lap 4 while in 6th place I hit the barrier at the chicane, plus a number of offs and so I just quit and went and got another car. I also noticed that I didn't have to run wide open. 2nd time was the win. I started with my trusty 2J on Intermediates, pitted at the end of lap 5, no fuel, just another set of Intermediates. Lost the lead as I was pulling out of the pits but quickly caught both 1st and 2nd and passed both very easily. At lap end of lap 7 I had a 48 sec lead. I noticed I was at less than 1/2 tank of fuel so I just babied it the last 2 laps and finished with just a little less than 1/4 of a tank but not in the red. The tires also showed very little wear too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this race. I'm very glad you can do it multiple times since the others are just frustrating the heck out of me. Also sorry about the flash. I didn't notice it was on until after I had taken multiple shots trying to get a clear picture. I have yet to be able to get it to pause and keep the screen so I can fiddle with my camera. It takes about 75-80 sec. for my phone to boot up. I didn't think to turn it on before the race.:dunce: Also just as an after thought I might try Sports Softs if it will let. I noticed in some of the other rain events the SS lasted longer than RI.

I decided to give this another try before my trip to the hospital tomorrow. I just couldn't stand the thought of leaving this one event undone. Used my Honda HSV Anniversary Edition. Used Intermediate tires the whole race, pitting on lap 6 for tires and a splash of fuel. Won pretty easily even though I was driving pretty cautiously and received two penalties which weren't even my fault. :banghead: May try this one a few more times upon my return from the hospital. Anyways, this is it for me until I return home in a week or so. Good luck everyone and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. Gonna miss my daily routine of checking the site and chatting with you all. :( See everyone when I get back. CargoRatt out.

I resisted the TS303 as i wanted s challenge (one that ill be repeating for the 1.1 payout) Lexus Bandai SC 430... first 2 laps on RS - pit at the end of 2 and switch to wet intermediate.... can use them for the rest of the race (last lap is low on grip ao gotta be careful) or if youve built a 30 sec gap by lap 8 come in at the end and of lap 8 and chuck RS for the last two laps.... sprint through that incredible sun set.....
Really liking this event ☺

I finally got my senses about me on this one, and decided to try a GT500 car, the Motul Autech GT-R, rather than trying to fool the game with a ringer. Started out on IM tires, made 1 stop for IM and 20 liters of fuel on lap 5.
I caught the rabbit on lap 9, and won with a 6 sec gap, including 1 ramming penalty. The most difficult part was dealing with the rolling roadblocks.

I think I'll try that "Yoda" setup on the TS030! Everyone can always use another 1.1 mil credits.

I ran it in an HSV and I found I was most comfortable with RS for the first couple of laps (not sure if 2 or 3) until the rain starts again (came in early at about 15%). Then changed for inters and stayed on them until the end of lap 8. When I tried the first time and changed after lap 7 I spun out twice on RS's at 0%, but with the track still being wet off the driving line. In lap 9 the grip is much better already, so I found it safer to change then.

The weird thing was that at the very beginning when wetness is at 30%, there was no problem going off line on slicks, but when it dried up in the end, it was horrible and like driving on ice.

Found the same thing... tried the Honda Keihin HSV 12 (praino's laguna seca tune) first 3 laps on RS lapping 1.53 1.54 came in on the third for intermediates... they start wearing out badly on the 8th lap but i found that you have to stick with them... if you come in for RS at the end of the 7th lsp its still way too wet and slippery and it cetianly doesnt feel like 0%:water.... if you come in at the end of the 8th you get another lap with intermediates and i find doing lap 8 with the intermediates faster....though lap 9 was still slippery at the start so its easy as an outlap before a flying final superlap (1.51) ....

I won the race in a BMW Z4 GT3. Started with softs, pitted in the end of the 2nd lap, changed to inters and then I made a second pit stop in the end of lap 6 or 7. I changed to softs and made it to the end.
Man, this was very tough....

Seasonal greetings to all,

To all those who are still having issues with this event, (you really shouldn't be as the solution has been put up by plenty of fellow members above this post), all you have to do is start on intermediates, pit at the end of lap 5 (or 6, tyre wear depending), accept the suggested amount of fuel, fit a new set of intermediates and bring it home. Basically, job done.

It took me 4 attempts to learn that the above strategy was the most forgiving. The first two attempts involved cunning use of dry weather tyres, both mediums and softs at the start and toward the end. Both of them garnered 14th place, due to what is now apparent as untimely aquaplaning.

My third attempt was the one that rather than storm off in the huff made me laugh out loud. I had decided that inters were the way to go for the race duration, however, I stupidly thought I could shave a couple of seconds during the pit stop by reducing the amount of fuel on offer. After all, how bad could it be? Well, all was going reasonably peachy and I was in the lead on the last lap by what can only be described as many seconds, but just as I came out of corner 10, an immediate loss of power informed me that I had in fact run out of fuel and was in limp home mode. After 20 plus minutes of racing I wasn't too keen to come in 14th again, so I did my best to become a mobile chicane down the back straight, a manoeuvre that saw me cross the line in 9th place...

Undeterred, I had another go utilising the intermediate plan and not skimping on the fuel at the pit stop, and in a nutshell it was a fairly straight forward win.

If I may be so bold as to address some member's complaints of getting time penalties during the race that were caused by the AI. It is the nature of racing that the unexpected can and does occur. To have a game that attempts to replicate this is, in my humble opinion, quite a splendid thing. Is it frustrating to come flying round a fast corner only to end up slamming into an AI who has spun off? Yes it is. However, what I've learned (especially with this particular event) is to remain ridiculously focused in general and be aware where the car in front (and for that matter, behind) is in relation to where I am. With a bit of luck and surreptitious avoidance procedure as and when required, damage limitation can be achieved.

A couple of other tips I'd like to share with regard to this particular event. I tend to have a reasonably heavy front biased brake set up as a rule of thumb. In the main, I'm happy enough with how that has gone, up until this event. As tyre wear has such a baring on how the race pans out, I ended up bringing the front end down from 7 to 4 and rear from 5 to 3. In doing so, the degradation to the front set was slightly less horrific and the rear wasn't that bad at all by the time both pit stop and chequered flag came. If you allow your tyres to get to 1 or 0, it is akin to driving on the rims alone, and by in large, quite bothersome.

My last tip for those having issues would be to lean on the side of cautiousness. As the precipitation and grip levels differ from lap to lap it is very difficult to put in consistent lap times. Add the AI into the mix and it becomes nigh on impossible to remain consistent. However, this event is called a survival, and basically, as long as you do that, you'll add some cash to the bank. Some examples of being cautious; brake a bit earlier than you would normally (this can prevent locking up), keep an eye on your tyre wear (back straight allows a safe quick glance), don't stay too long in AI slipstream as the spray will screw up your braking point and more than likely a time penalty for hitting the AI in front.

I just realised I omitted to say which car I was in. It was the HSV 15th Anniversary, ABS of 1, TCS of 0, Top speed set to 260Kmh (approx 165 Mph), and a DS3.

For me, this event has raised the fun factor, when done with inters!

I haven't beat this one yet, waited til past midnight to do for the 200% bonus and tried twice. With stock GT500 GTR. Its probably fast enough but I wasn't doing real well. So far both races I tried Inter to end of lap 7 and went on RS or RM and both time spun as soon as pit exit. The track dried fast enough to do 1:57s and I think its possible to probably catch the leader, but its hard work and you can't see the drying line that you could in some other races(where wet tire didn't seem to matter much). There is only 1 dry line and running slightly off-line is sketchy as hell. I think Inter/Inter will work if just taking that sketchy factor away. I might try the RS/Inter/RS too...

This was pretty tough as far as a GT6 races goes, a change for the better for sure.
