I think his radio playlist was planned well, like all the other hidden messages! Try google the names that he painted all over his equipment.

Battle of Tours
1683 Battle of Vienna
Pelayu
Antioch
Deus Vult

Many more crusader imagery and leaders.

Battle of Vienna of 1683 is not really considered a Crusade neither was it part of the Crusades. But people seem to forget that Muslim Polish Tatars fought for the Polish while you had Christian Protestant Hungarians fighting for the Ottoman Empire led by Imre Thokoly.

Just another battle for control and domination.

Manifesto also has mention of Dylan Roof.

Wow, I never thought the Ottoman Empire would get a citation in the 2010s for a terrorist shooting in land which hadn't even been discovered by the west or the middle east at the time of the second Battle for Vienna.

For what it's worth, despite European encroachment most of the Ottoman Empire was on already Islamic territory in the Levant and north Africa. You also had to be Turkic to be "in the club", otherwise you were a simple Muslim jabroni.

As others have mentioned, it was always about power and control, as so many powers were and always have been about.

This is just insane. 40 deaths. So senseless and needless. I'm sorry for those who have died and for their families who have to deal with this.

Irony is most Ottoman Sultans were born to European mothers who were either Greek, Venetian, Polish, Serbian, French and Russian.

A lot of nationalists even become so dumbfounded to find that the Ottomans were longer Turkic by blood but mainly European blood in effect with their future generations.

Its sad how some people use the past to justify hatred should we hate the Germans because they set Europe on Fire in World War 2 of course not. Neither should we with Muslims because you have some Islamic Empires who invaded Europe. Islamic Empires and kingdoms spent more time fighting each other and invading each other rather than Europe. Ottoman Empire took the Balkans and reached Vienna are we going to hate The Turks for this of course not.

Are the English going to hate the Italians because of the Roman Empire. Really sad history is something to learn from so events should not be repeated.

We are not responsible for the actions of our ancestors that happened in the past.

You know the world has really hit rock bottom when horrifying incidents like this happen in New Zealand, a country known for its peacefulness and civility. I don't know what else to say, it's so sickening.

I believe I read somewhere that he didn't intend to carry out the attack in New Zealand initially. Does anyone have any further information on that? I have tried looking it up but I'm at work so can't really spend much time researching it at the minute.

This doesn't fully answer your question, but may have some relevance:
The man who claimed responsibility for the shooting said he came to New Zealand only to plan and train for the attack. He said he was not a member of any organization, but had donated to and interacted with many nationalist groups, though he acted alone and no group ordered the attack.

He said the mosques in Christchurch and Linwood would be the targets, as would a third mosque in the town of Ashburton if he could make it there.

He said he chose New Zealand because of its location, to show that even the most remote parts of the world were not free of “mass immigration.”

"I blame these increasing terror attacks on the current Islamophobia post-9/11," Pakistan's prime minister, Imran Khan, posted on social media. "1.3 billion Muslims have collectively been blamed for any act of terror."

Are terror attacks actually increasing, or are they actually decreasing? In any case, the global rightwing populist reactionary movement seems to be slowly gaining momentum. Or is it?

2001 - Attack on twin towers
2003 - Invasion of Iraq
2011 - Invasion of Libya

Thanks for the link and the info 👍

This graph, however, is a bit misleading as it stops in 2015 when applications were at a very high level which could make it appear as though the levels are still that high. It completely misses out the fact that in 2018 the number of applicants had dropped back down to 638,000.

If anything, he's a Euro-nationalist as he constantly refers to Europe being "taken away" by immigrants, and that he carried out the attack in the name of Europeans killed by terrorists, enslaved by Islamic people, to create division between Europeans and Muslims.

He comes across as anti-US as well as his decision to use a gun will incite political divide in the US resulting in repealing the 2nd amendment and as a result, will cause "a fracturing of the US along cultural & racial lines". He also hopes it will "reduce the USA's ability to project power globally, thereby ensure that never again can such a situation as the US involvement in Kosovo ever occur again (where US/NATO forces fought besides muslims and slaughtered Christian Europeans attempting to remove these Islamic occupiers from Europe)."

He cites the country with the closest political & social view as China.

When he asked if he's left/right wing, "depending on the definition, sure" to either.

When asked if he supports Trump. "As a symbol of renewed white identity & common purpose? Sure. As a policy maker and leader? Dear god no."

He was a supporter of Brexit, claiming it had nothing to do with the economy, but "firing back at mass immigration, cultural displacement and globalism".

He cites himself as, "when I was young, I was a communist, then an anarchist, and finally, a libertarian before coming to be an eco-facist".

"Why do you blame immigrants and not the capitalists?
I blame both and plan to deal with both".

What right-wing person adds a full page attacking conservatives? "Conservatism is dead. Thank god. Now let us bury it and move on to something of worth".

Did they have him take a survey? This is so bizarre. What is his favorite TV show? If he were a type of bread, what type of bread would he be?

Echoing some comments I made back in 2017:

Anyone who attacks a religious place of worship for whatever reason is nothing more than a coward. They don’t deserve any sort of media treatment and the outlets that make the shooter known are only contributing to the problem.

There's a problem with that statement: The shooter is deliberately shown himself, make a public PDF manifesto, has a live thread in certain image board, and even livestreams the attack (thus the clarity of some of shooting footage).

At that point the media wouldn't even bother covering his ass.

I don't know how these types of things can even be approached. If nothing changes, it's clearly possible for it to happen again. There seems to be no end to the 4chan/8chan sociopaths who delight in this kind of madness. Is it time to start aggressively taking down these sites? Surely the resources of the US government could accomplish it. Do social media sites need to be penalized for 'allowing' this type of thing to be live streamed? The internet has enabled some truly horrible things, and it needs some work. I'm at a loss. I feel like we're cratering as a civilization.

Looking at this list makes me sadder.

The very last massacre was in the 1997 with 6 casualities. No massacres occur on subsequent years until now.

The massacre besides this with highest casualities (since 1943) was in 1990 with 14 casualities. So yes, this event is with the highest casualities in modern history.

NZ was indeed quite a peaceful country until those bastards come to ruin.

No. Removing freedoms from the world doesn't remove the dickheads.

So, what would you do to remove the dickheads?

Wednesday here in Brazil we had a school shooting and the two main guys who did this had accounts in Deep Web chans. This guy who did that shooting in New Zealand was in the same situation, he has an account in those sites.

I don't think we can let this all happening normally. Those places are filled of prejudice and antisemite ideas. Allowing these things to proliferate is giving chance to others to do the same thing. And these exhibition in media can be harmful too by the way it is done.

(Sorry for my bad english)

Why is it up to me? I'm saying that removing freedoms in response to dickheads isn't the solution.

They also had Playstations and XBoxes, or at least it's likely they did. If they played violent games then why not remove those from the marketplace?

Those places are filled of prejudice and antisemite ideas.

In that case we should shut pubs, busses, streets, and houses. And ban people from talking. After all, they might be prejudiced dickheads.

Chan sites don't require login credentials, it'd take away all the anonymity of it, and 8chan isn't exactly in the so called "deepweb"
They likely had access to television and radio, too, so why not stigmatize everyone who use said means of communication?

This is the part that I agree with you, you get extremists from all over the political spectre, the radical left sharing ideas of shooting up private hospitals, schools and small businesses, secular extremists sharing ideas of blowing up churches, synagogues, mosques and all other kinds of religious buildings, and the ethnical extremists calling for the extermination of X race

If the governments want to tackle extremism, they should be dealing with all kinds of extremism, not only the ones that have disturbed the lives of the average Joe.

I think the question is a valid response to you saying, 'no that isn't the answer.'

If a targed/limited 'strike' on websites like these is not the answer, then I think it's fair to ask you what is your response? Or do you feel like this is a completely unpreventable situation? Your "slippery slope" response, IMO, is not valid.

And of course all forms of extremism should be tackled. I don't think it matters if this particular attack was a far-right example of extremism - violent extremism needs to be dealt with, and probably at its source.

No. Removing freedoms from the world doesn't remove the dickheads.

Sites sharing child pornography and communities around child porn etc are taken down to the point of basically no longer existing, why should sites that perpetuate and help foster racism be allowed to stay?

I’m not saying that simply removing the means of these people from congregating would remove these people, but it isolated them and their abhorrent believes.

The right-wing isn't limited to just conservatives.

The far-right such as outright fascists are still right-wing and many will be openly hostile towards what they see as far too moderate right-wing groups such as conservatives.

His statement about conservatism being dead and lets move onto something else reads as a direct call for the right to migrate en-masse to a far right fascist ideology.
Had no idea Antifa is now far-right by that definition.

Novalee
His manifesto is like a nutcase rant.
But it's still enough for you to skew what it actually said?

I believe I read somewhere that he didn't intend to carry out the attack in New Zealand initially. Does anyone have any further information on that? I have tried looking it up but I'm at work so can't really spend much time researching it at the minute.
He said he was only in New Zealand temporarily, but saw it was, sickeningly, "as target rich of an environment as anywhere else in the West", and "nowhere was safe".
Did they have him take a survey? This is so bizarre. What is his favorite TV show? If he were a type of bread, what type of bread would he be?
It's a weird manifesto. He memes it even a bit.

But, it's mostly rambling and repeated concern over birth rates as a way of invasion.

On related note, 8chan was created in response to the much "heavier" moderation of 4chan.

You can tell which contents is moderated. I'd imagine if 8chan gets slightly "safe" or got a government shutdown, they'll just make another one. 9chan, 8chen, etc. It'll never ends and has no real end solution.

8chan was created in response to the much "heavier" moderation of 4chan.
Because 4chan's moderation is too heavy, and they actually do a great job at it, confidential files get deleted within seconds and censorship is very effective in the political board.

I think that social media at the very least should be monitored for extremists views and were appropiate shut down if a crime is commited .

The real gains will be made when rightwing extremism is hunted down the way isil type groups are.

For New Zealand it will be a turning point ,nothing will be the same again .

I see online outside of france some yellowvest groups saying the same garbage this terrorist in this tragedy was saying, word for word .
