Actually, I was thinking Mike Tyson.
I really think that was an open and shut case. He would have probably gotten off with a slap on the wrist had he not raped a beauty queen. In a case of celebrity vs celebrity someone is going to jail.
I realize they were guilty of nothing, but it was still a media circus, that was completely unneccessary.
You can blame the DA with political aspirations for that. As soon as the media died down he would bring it back up. Fortunately, the farce created by the DA led to his political downfall.
There is always Marion Barry to fall back on.
In the original arrest he was charged with 14 charges, he was only found guilty of one.
The fact that he later continued on his political career in DC, despite various other drug violations, shows that he got away lightly. The voters still elected him (by 96%) to the Ward 8 Council after his prison sentence. I think he did just fine for someone arrested while holding cocaine in his hands, on video.
I'll give you that one, but all the things you hear about Pit Bulls in the media are way less than warm and fuzzy.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. Media constantly attacks the dogs and not the owners. I have known a couple of very friendly pit bulls and any dog breeder/trainer can tell you that a pit bull's demeanor is more about the breeding and training than natural tendencies. Take into account that many dog lovers know this fact, despite the media, and that no matter the breed in this case they were treated brutally and people feel sympathy for the dogs. I even heard a sports talk show host saying that he imagines this being done to his dog and it makes him sick. Never once did the breed in question come up, because the media suddenly chose to ignore pit bull stigma in order to say Michael Vick killed dogs. I think probably 75%-80% of the population picture Old Yeller (people cry for him even though he turned violent from rabies) or Lassie or their own pet when someone says dogs, not vicious, trained fighting beasts.
And some of my kids have played football. They both are of the firm belief that football players epitomize the term "jackass."
They thought the game itself was ok. The players made the experience suck.
Well, it is more targeted toward parents that are huge sports fans and idolize players themselves, teaching their kids to idolize them.
I wonder what this guy's kids think of football players.
Not like there would have been 10 or 20 years ago, but the disparity does still exist.
As long as people look different from one another there will always be disparities. It is human nature to want to feel you are better than others and if skin color is all they have to go on then they will go for it. That doesn't make it right, but some people don't have any form of success in life so they grab at whatever they can. They should be pitied.
Granted, we as a society, are pretty sick of all celebrities, regardless of race getting away with the crap they tend to get away with.
It kind of amazes me how we are all tired of it, yet we all know what is going on. For instance, I couldn't give two farts about what Paris Hilton is doing, or has done, or will do, yet somehow I still managed to know and make jokes about it.
I don't know whether it is that we can't get away from it or curiosity gets the better of us, but when a celebrity does something we all know and then talk about how we don't care.
