The whole Offsides review is utterly pointless most of the time. There's no point spending a minute or two or three to see if the player was a couple of inches offsides. If it isn't blatantly obvious (player way past the line), there's no point in reviewing them. That doesn't even take into consideration the fact that they tend to be wildly inconsistent with what is and isn't offside anyway.

As for WAS/PHI- The Capitals demolished the Flyers with a 6-1 victory. The fans also got the Flyers a delay of game penalty for throwing things onto the ice after being given a warning for that just a few minutes beforehand. The Flyers could realistically get swept out of the playoffs with how they have played of recent.

This Wild/North Stars series reminds me of the Wild/Avs series 2 years ago. The Wild won that one in 7 and the Avs that season were a heck of a lot better than Dallas is.

Erik Haula was a 7th round pick by the Wild. He has 2 points this game and scored 13 goals this season after spending a huge amount of time on the 4th line under Yeo. A lot of teams are probably kicking themselves for not grabbing him right now

Currently 3-2 in favour of the Wild. Big #22 Nino Neiderreiter(6ft 2, 210lbs) drove the net and created havoc for Jason Pomminville to get the leading goal

4-2 with the Kaptain on the Power Play!

I saw that brutal hit Orpik took from the Flyers' Bellemare. During the Intermission on NBCSN, the guys in the studio thought that Bellemare should be punished severely. I thought that there was a great tribute to the late Ed Snider before the game. Sad thing about that WAS at PHI game was that PHI scored very early... before WAS hung six unanswered goals on them. False sense of security, much?

Minnesota and Dallas are assured a Game 5 after the green and red boys came through with a 5-3 victory at home. The artists formerly known as the Minnesota North Stars still lead the series, but it is now a 2-1 series advantage. It will be tied at 2-2 if the Wild win Game 4 Wednesday night in St. Paul. Of course, another Wild win would warrant a Game 6.

Regulation solved nothing in San Jose, so the Kings and Sharks needed Overtime. The Sharks slept with the fishes after the Kings won 2-1. 2-1 was not only the score from this game, but also the current series record which San Jose still leads over Los Angeles. Game 4 of this series is on Wednesday.

Congratulations to all winners from Monday.

On right now is Tampa Bay at Detroit on NBCSN- Game 4 of this series that TB leads 2-1. With nine minutes left in the 1st Period, it's 1-0, Tampa Bay.

Good luck to all teams playing tonight.

3-2 Tampa Bay. Lightning now 3-1 in the series.

I really hope that Jonathon Ericsson doesn't come back to Detroit at the end of the season and gets released upon the beginning of the 2016-2017 season (has a no trade clause for this season only IIRC). The only things he can do well are create bad turnovers and get pointless penalties. His bad turnovers caused at least one of the goals for Tampa Bay- maybe two. I realistically see the Bolts winning game 5 and thus the series handily. Detroit desperately needs a defensive makeover for next season. Also a power play too. 1-21 in the playoffs is absolutely abysmal.

Apparently, Andrew Shaw of the Chicago Blackhawks used a homophobic slur and got a one-game suspension. From yesterday, I forgot to mention that Bellemare of the Philadelphia Flyers picked up a one game suspension for that brutal hit he dealt to one of the Capitals.

You want more playoff hockey? Lucky you! Here's what we got tonight:

* WAS Capitals at PHI Flyers: Game 4 (WAS leads series 3-0)
* FLA Panthers at NYI Islanders: Game 4 (NYI leads series 2-1)
* DAL Stars at MIN Wild: Game 4 (DAL leads series 2-1)
* LA Kings at SJ Sharks: Game 4 (SJ leads series 2-1)

So we got a lot of Game 4s and a bunch of teams leading 2-1 in their respective series tonight. Games will either see series tied 2-2 or have one team lead a series 3-1 and be only one win away from advancing to the next round. We'll see what happens after these games conclude.

Hump Day hockey- playoff style. Enjoy, folks!

[UPDATE] WAS leads their series 3-0. Edits made.

Scott Laughton of the Flyers just got taken off the ice on a stretcher after it looked like he drilled his head on a stretcher and looked to be unconscious. I hope he's okay.

EDIT: He has been taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons at this time.

Yeah, that was ugly. It didn't look too serious a hit that Scott Laughton took; but when you're laid out on the ice and down for seconds on end, it isn't a good sign. I surely hope he'll be alright.

He is remaining in the hospital overnight for observation. All tests came back negative. This according to Complete Hockey News.

Tonight...

* DET Red Wings at TB Lightning (TB leads series 3-1)
* PIT Penguins at NYR Rangers (PIT leads series 2-1)
* ANA Ducks at NSH Predators (NSH leads series 2-1)
* CHI Blackhawks at STL Blues (STL leads series 3-1)

Could we see our first elimination of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight? Or will the potentially-eliminated teams see their season last one more day? We'll find out once tonight's four games conclude.

Good luck to all teams playing tonight.

The Red Wings are the first team to get bounced after losing tonight 1-0. I had a hunch they were going to lose tonight, and in typical third period fashion, they gave up a goal- the one that ended their season. Ericsson needs to go- he sucks. I have no idea what the hell Tatar was thinking by passing when he was wide open and would have had to whiff badly to not score. The young players looked good tonight, Mrazek did good, but like I said, they'd lose tonight.

The officiating has been terrible for the Blues and Hawks series. Would love to type it out, but I don't really feel like it.

On another note, I feel like game 5 of Blues and Hawks is about to get really violent. Not physical. Violent.

The Blues are good again? Do they still have Kieth Cachuck?

CONTENDER ELIMINATED! We have our first elimination. And unfortunately... it involves Joey D and AnthonyD1993's Detroit Red Wings. The Detroit Red Wings are done after having lost 1-0 in Tampa Bay. The Lightning will meet either the Florida Panthers or the New York Islanders in the next round.

Another game that went final was Pittsburgh absolutely whacking the New York Rangers 5-0 in NYC. One more win for PIT will have them advance to the next round.

That's all. Congratulations to the eventual winners of ANA at NSH and CHI at STL.

It's been awful in every series.
I haven't been watching enough of the other series. But @AnthonyD1993 and myself did talk about the Wings/Bolts having some off calls.

What gapoened in the Blues/Hawks game 4 was just rediculous though. I will explain because I am in the mood now.

Blues player is going for the forehand shot while striding to Crawford (Hawks Goalie). He can get slowed down enough and trys to jump over Crawfords pad and blocker. Basically trying to avoid him as much as possible. He ends falling into the boards and manages to get to his feet quite quickly due to the way he landed. Next thing you know, Crawford looks over his shoulder as the Blues player. Immediately, Crawford charges the Blues player and proceeds to try and beat his skull in. Of course the Blues player is going to defend himself and he manages to get Crawford to the ground with a shove and a couple decent licks to the collar area.

This whole shabang naturally causes everybody to grab a player of the opposing team as the whistle is blown as soon as Crawford is noticed. So yeah. Now we have everybody holding another players jersey. A few guys may have been jumbled with Crawford and Blues player at this point.

The problem lies when the penalties are final and the Blues are somehow on the PK. Check out the spoiler for the penalties at 11:54.

Funny thing is, that the broadcast did not say this IIRC. I may have been dreaming or something, but I could have swore that they said on air that the Blues' Pietrangelo was called for spearing and Fabbri had a double minor. (John Kelley, Darren Pang were announcing.)

The really funny thing is that we have two people called for roughing the same guy... which I know didn't happen. Also, Fabbri (Blues player in the original situation) got called for goalie interference. I am saying that is the worst call ever though, it was kind of questionable to be honest.

It just really grinds my gears that we somehow have an extra minor.

End of rant.

It took me all of two Red Wings games and 5 games total to see that the refs sucked across the board. They have to get better because the inconsistency makes the games go bad real quick.

I can explain why. Fabbri was called for goaltender interference and Crawford for Roughing. This happened before a faceoff at 11:54, which would have been 4 on 4 hockey for 2 min. A faceoff happened and two Blues players (Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo) ganged up on Andrew Ladd. All three of them get penalized for roughing, which as a result, the Blackhawks went on the PP. So take your pick, Shattenkirk or Pietrangelo.

EDIT: Got off the Blues/Blackhawks game to wish scorn on NBCSN. They cut off the commentator of the game as he was making a very important point about the NHL's mandated start times.

Kinda sucks that it has to be Bolts vs. Cats. If the Islanders upset us you know who I'll be rooting for.

Time to drop the puck again. This is what your Friday Night of NHL Playoff hockey looks:

* PHI Flyers at WAS Capitals (WAS lead series 3-1)
* NYI Islanders at FLA Panthers (series tied 2-2)
* MIN Wild at DAL Stars (DAL lead series 3-1)
* SJ Sharks at LA Kings (SJ lead series 3-1)

We could have as many as three teams being eliminated tonight! Can you imagine Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Los Angeles all losing tonight and being 86ed from the Playoffs? Then again... all three teams facing elimination could have their seasons last one more day. Whomever wins between the Islanders and the Panthers will have a psychological advantage of being up 3-2.

Enjoy the action tonight!

Not even ten seconds into the PHI at WAS game, and WAS' T.J. Oshie and PHI's Brayden Schenn got into a good old brawl. Got to love hockey!

First period is over in Dallas and it's 2-1 Minnesota. Hopefully we can score another couple and get this W :)

Still some bad reffing. Roussel should have gotten a 4min minor for interference and instigating. Instead Dumba got called for a penalty as well and it was 4-on-4. Bit annoying to be honest

And more bad reffing. Granlund gets tripped and there is no call. Then Spurgeon taps Benn who goes flying to the ice with great acting and Spurgeon gets called for tripping

The Islanders are seriously pissing me off. Luongo needs to work on his delts so that maybe he can block those damn over the shoulder goals.

Three teams faced elimination last night, and two survived. The not-so-fortunate team was the Los Angeles Kings. So the team that wouldn't go away... will now be watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs rather than play for the Stanley Cup.

Today, the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks face elimination in today's three games. New York Rangers at Pittsburgh, and St. Louis at Chicago. The other game is Nashville at Anaheim- that series tied 2-2.

Enjoy the hockey action today, folks.

[UPDATE] Nashville at Anaheim, not Anaheim at Nashville. Changes made.
