Holy amount of Avalanche fans!

The blues have went to OT in 3 consecutive games, maybe 2.

They really need to get their act together with this losing streak.

They continue to fight an uphill battle with their style of play right now though. Was gald to see them get rough with the Ducks last night though.

Upset to see 3 of our players get hurt though. :(

Joel Edmunson really was getting physical and it was great to watch. Surprisingly he didn't take but only one penalty I believe. 👍

I have a feeling that this Blues Kings game is going to pretty physical - pretty quickly.

The refs in the Wild-Stars game were horrendous tonight. Jared Spurgeon got whacked with a stick in the face and was bleeding profusely in what for sure should have been at least a 4 minute minor penalty if not a major. There was no call made. Nino Neddereiter was hooked while driving to the net. There was no call made. Then a Wild player, Justin Fontaine I believe, lifted his stick up a little bit too high, didn't even touch the Stars player wuth any force and was called for hugh sticking.

Like it's expected that the NHL has a bias against the Wild but come on not calling a penalty when there is a player bleeding on the ice? It wasn't a shot follow through at all so it should have been called. I'm really frustrated that there isn't anyone on the Wild who could have taken a run at the Stars player who did it.

At least your team won. The Wild netminder sold Goalie interference to disallow a goal made by the Stars in the first. Was the Stars player in the crease? Yeah, but he was no where near the puck.

And because he was in the crease and had his stick like that and was in the way, he didn't allow Dubnyk to get out and across to make the save. Pretty clear call there. Glad the refs at least got 1 right tonight

Besides it's nice that we don't have a team that tries to goon it up when they are losing. It's just petty when that happens. Like seriously, don't injure us to feel better about your loss.

I just saw goal #499 by A. Ovechkin. Ovie absolutely nailed that goal to win in Overtime for his Washington Capitals. It began with him just going full speed from coast-to-coast. Then at the other end, he cashed in that Overtime winning goal. And you know what? I hope Ovechin gets goal #500 at home. This dude is an incredible player.

Here is where I saw video of A. Ovechkin's goal: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on...ne-goal-shy-of-500-thanks-to-this-masterpiece

Today has six games, and one of them is in progress as of the time of this post: Buffalo Sabres at Winnipeg Jets. It is currently 2-2 with 12:56 left in the 2nd Period. Games starting later today and tonight:

* OTT Senators at WAS Capitals
* COL Avalanche at CHI Blackhawks
* NJ Devils at MIN Wild
* DET Red Wings at ANA Ducks
* FLA Panthers at EDM Oilers

Enjoy some NHL hockey. Good luck to all of your teams, of course.

For this post, I want to congratulate A. Ovechkin on cashing in goal #500. He became the 5th fastest player in NHL history to 500 goals in a career. The Capitals eviscerated the Ottawa Senators 7-1 last night. Actually, Ovechkin got goals #500 and #501. He was the only player last night to bang in more than one goal for the Caps.

A quick look at last night's action...

* The Buffalo Sabres won 4-2 at the Winnipeg Jets.

* Chicago doubled up Colorado at home 6-3.

* Canada's capital city lost bad at America's capital city- the Capitals won 7-1 over the Ottawa Senators.

* AnythonyD1993's Detroit Red Wings took down Anaheim 2-1 in Anaheim.

* Another 2-1 final involved RedDragon's Minnesota Wild hosting the New Jersey Devils. Unfortunately, it was the visiting NJ Devils on the winning end of the 2-1 score.

* One more 2-1 final was what the Florida Panthers won by on the road at the Edmonton Oilers.

Four games on tonight, including an Original Six game between the Boston Bruins at the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings at the Los Angeles Kings. But once again, way to go on 500 goals, Ovie!

Also want to offer congratulations to Wild Forward Zach Parise. He became the second player this season to score on all 30 teams in his career. The first was Patrick Sharp, who scored on his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks near Christmas.

And because he was in the crease and had his stick like that and was in the way, he didn't allow Dubnyk to get out and across to make the save. Pretty clear call there. Glad the refs at least got 1 right tonight

Did you watch the top angle? He had plenty of space to get over and block the shot. He moved forward a bit to draw the call.

Looking for a game tonight? NBCSN is set to show the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Colorado Avalanche tonight. This game is one of eight on the night tonight. Here are the other games for tonight:

* COL Blue Jackets at NYI Islanders
* PIT Penguins at CAR Hurricanes
* SJ Sharks at WPG Jets
* BUF Sabres at MIN Wild
* NJ Devils at STL Blues
* NSH Predators at CHI Blackhawks
* EDM Oilers at ARI Coyotes

Good luck to all of your teams, and go enjoy some hockey tonight.

A Blues game was the same way way the other night.

Blues got high sticked in the faced and was bleeding, and then the Ducks get called on 2 seperate minor penalties that never even happened.

Not to much the several other penalties that were not called or incorrectly called.

Smile- hockey is back for another Wednesday night! Four games are on tonight, one of them on NBCSN for Wednesday Night Rivalry. Tonight's lineup looks like this:

* COL Blue Jackets at TOR Maple Leafs
* BOS Bruins at PHI Flyers (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* FLA Panthers at CGY Flames
* OTT Senators at ANA Ducks

Go enjoy some NHL hockey tonight.

Results from Wednesday night:

* The Boston Bruins couldn't ground the Philadelphia Flyers, as Philly won 3-2 on the Wednesday Night Rivalry game on NBCSN.

* In Columbus, Ohio; it was the Blue Jackets who were the dominant blue team, taking down the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1.

* The Anaheim Ducks were mighty good tonight in taking down the Ottawa Senators 4-1.

* All good things must come to an end. Appropriately, the Florida Panthers' winning streak went up in flames, as they went down... in flames... to the Calgary Flames 6-0 in Calgary.

Congratulations to all winners from Wednesday night's games.

Man, it's hard watching the Bruins this year. I've seen some bad hockey from them over the years. But, never have I witnessed such heartless hockey. Hockey is emotional. These guys are playing without any.
Cheers

Allow me to congratulate Joel Quenneville on his recent coaching accomplishment. He knocked down win #783 recently by taking down the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in Montreal. Here is an article online featuring some video: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/quenneville-wins-no-783-blackhawks-beat-canadiens-2-1/ar-BBodGwU

Joel Quenneville is going to have to coach for longer and win more games if he wants to surpass Scotty Bowman's 1,244 wins as coach. At least Quenneville established himself as one of the all-time great coaches in NHL history with his most recent win.

A little heads-up for you hockey fans... at 7:30 PM CST, if you're looking for a nationally-televised game tonight, the Philadelphia Flyers will play at the Detroit Red Wings on NBCSN. Detroit will get more face time on NBCSN later this week when they host the St. Louis Blues as part of "Wednesday Night Rivalry."

Only two finals as of this post...

* Pittsburgh Penguins blanked and smashed the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0 in the Steel City.

* Vancouver went into Brooklyn and defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in a Shootout.

The three games I've mentioned today are only three of seven games on this day.

John Scott will be captain of the Pacific Division during the All Star Game despite the fact that he was traded out of conference and is currently playing in the AHL.

Playoff Picture Update: If the playoffs started today, NONE of the seven Canadian teams would make it.

...there is still a lot of hockey to be played for sure.

Tuesday rundown coming up. There were eight games on the night, and the ones final as of the time of this post will be featured...

* Did the Nashville Predators bring the Chicago Blackhawks back down to earth in Nashville? Nope. 4-1 victory for Chicago as the Blackhawks have a franchise-best 12-game winning streak. Chicago is an Original Six team, so it's great one of the NHL's oldest franchises has a run like this in team history. A quick search on Google indicates that the longest winning streak in NHL history belongs to the 1992-1993 Pittsburgh Penguins, who won 17 straight. This Chicago team is 5 away from tying and 6 away from a new record. That is IF they keep this winning streak going. This game was on NBCSN tonight, by the way.

* The New York Rangers handled the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in Overtime in New York City.

* The Philadelphia Flyers lost at home to the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2.

* It was Capital punishment for Columbus as the home Columbus Blue Jackets got roughed up 6-3 by the Washington Capitals.

* The Calgary Flames were iced at the New Jersey Devils. It was a 4-2 final in Newark, NJ in favor of the Devils.

* Original Six rivals Boston and Montreal clashed in Montreal. Coming away with the win was the black and gold boys of Boston with a 4-1 win.

* Offense aplenty in Tampa Bay with the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning combining for 10 points. On the winning end of the 6-4 final was the Tampa Bay Lightning at home over the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

Congratulations to all of Tuesday's winners, including the eventual winner of the Dallas Stars at Los Angeles Kings (currently 2-2, 9:34 left in the 2nd Period).

Can you believe it is already the penultimate "Hump Day" of January 2016? Tonight consists of three games, two to be shown on NBCSN. Tonight's lineup goes like this:

* STL Blues at DET Red Wings (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* BUF Sabres at COL Avalanche
* MIN Wild at ANA Ducks (also on NBCSN)

Go enjoy some NHL hockey tonight, GTPlaneteers.

Anaheim at Washington has been postponed tonight due to impending snowstorm in the DC area. A make up date has not been announced by the league yet.

Source: Complete Hockey News facebook page.

A few news and notes:

- Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella broke two ribs and suffered a hip injury while colliding with F Rene Bourque during practice. He did not travel with the team to Boston, and is unlikely to coach tomorrow's game against the Bruins. Get well soon.

- Free Agent Russian defenseman Nikita Zaitsev will make the move to the North American game next season as he signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unfortunately for either side, he has to be signed to a one year, entry level contract.

Yep. 3-0 victory for Detroit at the Buffalo Sabres. Here are some more finals on this five-game night...

* The Carolina Hurricanes couldn't sweep away the New York Rangers at home, as the Rangers chopped down Carolina 4-1.

* Chicago was ballin'. What the heck happened? Back-to-back Blackhawk losses now as they fell victim to the Florida Panters in Sunrise, Florida. The feisty Florida felines won 4-0. So Chicago's trip to Florida didn't go so well.

* The Rangers won tonight, so how did New York City's other team do? Well, the New York Islanders also got a road win in the only game played in Canada tonight. 5-2 was the score for the Islanders.

Congratulations to all winners from Friday, including the eventual winner of St. Louis at Colorado.

Let me highlight on the many games played on Saturday.

* It wasn't a happy time in MoTown as the Detroit Red Wings lost 4-3 to the Anaheim Ducks at The Joe.

* Because misery loves company, the Minnesota Wild also fell tonight, losing 4-3 score at the San Jose Sharks.

* Red Wings lost, Wild lost, and so did the Dallas Stars. The Colorado Avalanche won 3-1 in Dallas. So not a good Saturday for some of our GTPlaneteers.

* All smiles in Bruin land as the Boston Bruins won 3-2 in Boston over the Columbus Blue Jackets. This game, however, needed a Shootout to be settled.

* Hockey pride in the Sunshine State happened in Sunrise, FL as the Florida Panthers smashed the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2.

* Original Six action Canada style- you got the Montreal Canadiens at the Toronto Maple Leafs. This game also needed a Shootout to be settled, and Montreal defeated the Maple Leafs 3-2.

* Staying in Canada, the New Jersey Devils paid a visit to Winnipeg and won 3-1 at the Winnipeg Jets.

* The Pittsburgh Penguins had an offensive shootout against the Vancouver Canucks. The final score was 5-4 in favor of the Penguins.

* The Los Angeles Kings fell 3-2 at the Arizona Coyotes.

The Philadelphia Flyers at the New York Islanders game was postponed thanks to the brutal snowstorm. Tomorrow's Penguins at Capitals game is also postponed. Congratulations to the eventual winner of Nashville at Edmonton.

I had been waiting to report happier news on this subject but sadly it looks like it won't happen.

On New Year, the winter classic held its first ever woman's all star game. During the game Denna Long sustained a spinal injury. She has been in intensive care since then.

Reports now are that she is readying to be removed from intensive care to a rehab facility. Denna has limited movement in her arms and no movement in her legs.

My thoughts are with her and her family. She's a hockey player. I expect she'll fight every step of the way.

Cheers,
Boston77

First of all, I thought it was cool that Boston and Montreal auctioned off stuff from their game to financially help Denna in her recovery. I certainly wish her well in her recovery. I try to contribute to the "National Women's Hockey League" thread as I reported on that.

Now on a lighter note... six games are on tonight. Tonight's matches:

* BOS Bruins at PHI Flyers
* DET Red Wings at NYI Islanders
* MON Canadiens at COL Blue Jackets
* BUF Sabres at NYR Rangers
* ARI Coyotes at MIN Wild
* CGY Flames at DAL Stars

Enjoy some Monday Night hockey, NHL fans.

You're not going to see Shawn Horcoff of the Anaheim Ducks for a while, because he got hit with a 20-game suspension for performance enhancing drugs. The Duckies are currently 21-18-7 with 49 points, and 5th in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

Quick look at Monday night's games...

* BOS Bruins at PHI Flyers (3-2; Boston)
* DET Red Wings at NYI Islanders (4-2; Detroit)
* MON Canadiens at COL Blue Jackets (5-2; Columbus)
* BUF Sabres at NYR Rangers (6-3; New York Rangers)
* ARI Coyotes at MIN Wild (2-1, Shootout; Arizona)
* CGY Flames at DAL Stars (2-1; Dallas)

Nine games on tonight. If yours is playing tonight, good luck to your teams.

[UPDATE] Happy 55th birthday, Wayne Gretzky!
