I guess the issue is there aren't many Canadian left shot defensemen at that level since Pronger and Niedermayer aren't around anymore. Phaneuf might get more ice for that reason.

So, thinking about next year, would anyone be up for a hockey pool? We've got a decent core of 8-10 regulars in this thread, so we could probably get one going.

Yeah I'm sure a live draft would be doable. Just would have to be on a weekend so our Europeans and North Americans can draft at the same time.

Apparently the competition committee has allowed a new equipment option for goaltenders this year. Aside from the fact that all future players must wear a visor, the committee has allowed the goaltender pads to be 10% shorter than last year. Here's Henrik Lundqvist's new pads.

Shorter? I think its stupid that they cant have pads as short as they want. There should be maximum lenght no minimum...

There is. They're reducing the maximum. Pads can be as short as the goalies want.

Quite like the Wings chances this year but losing Filps is awful.

Flip is no where close to being worth the money he was asking for. I like him, it sucks to see him go, and he showed flashes of brilliance, but I'd take Weiss over him any day for the same money.

Well we might be able to, would be tough with the mix of Europeans and North Americans. I'm on the student timeline so I have tons of free time in the evenings and afternoons, so as long as it's early ish enough for the European members it's cool with me.

I'm also OK with an auto draft, you can set up your own list of players anyway so I don't mind.

I heard the NHL Preseason begins this weekend. So it looks like a lot of us will get to get our first look at new and returning players if this is true. I do watch the NHL from time to time. I know I said I like the Dallas Stars, but I don't really have any favorite teams in the NHL. That is... unless maybe Houston gets an NHL team. The Houston Aeros of the AHL became the Iowa Wild this past season, so we're out of hockey here in Houston.

Anyhow, bring on a new season of NHL hockey!

I tried to do one last year, but with the lock out and all...

I'm thankful that I can go to Stars games once a month now, finances permitting. Seats are cheap, and I can see the action from where I sit normally, so it will be nice to see some hockey.

I liked what I saw from the Wild, even though they lost to LA. Should be a good year for them if they can avoid the slumps that were their doom last season.

Did you know the season is still going on? Things have been quiet here on GTP regarding hockey. The NHL on NBC is showing the New York Rangers at the Boston Bruins. It's currently 2-1, Rangers with about 3:30 left in the first period.

Yeah I've been watching the 3rd period here. Haven't posted much, tend to go to other boards for hockey discussion. Rangers have a PP late but they haven't been able to do much, currently 3-2 Bruins.
