That's if the driver allows it to. There's a button to engage and disengage that feature by the shifter.
Woot. Thanks for reading further into the article than I did!

Is there a button to turn off the ugly headlights and taillights? I don't mean turn the lights off, I mean turn them off.

I wish, but I have to admit that they're growing on me.

the taillights are way too ginormous, I have decided.

Car and Driver says it's not as fast or as grippy as MT does. 4.9 to 60 and .97 on the skidpad.

For the people who hate the 370 but kinda want a sports car, I've seen a couple ads for Nissan dealerships offering 6500 off the MSRP of the 350.

Lookin' good 👍

I would have expected another 1-2 mph trap speed in the 1320, though. It has almost the exact same power/weight ratio as an E46 M3, but they trap about 106-107.

So how does this car compare with the new Camaro? Does the Cam use premium gas too?

it's probably faster and better to drive due the fact that it's ~300kg lighter.. and I'm comparing it to the Camaro V6 version naturally.

My guess is the Camaro will be able to use regular. As far as I know there aren't any official tests of the new Camaro, so a direct comparison will be purely speculation.

My guess (SS):

Acceleration: Camaro by a few tenths in the 1/4.
Deceleration: Z by 10 feet
Top Speed: Nanny nanny boo boo
Grip and Handling: Z
Gas mileage: Whichever is least fun to drive
Usability: Are you single?
Price: 10K Premium on the Camaro unless GM goes under

As far as the V6 Camaro goes, it'll be 8k cheaper than the Z. The 8k could possible be enough to make it faster in a straight line than the Z and nearly as good in the turns.

I would imagine the Camaro would require premium as I believe the other cars that use the same engine require it.

According to the spec sheet at Chevy's website, the V6 will run on regular and the V8s will run on premium.

Depends on which version of the SS, I believe. The L99 in the automatic SS will likely prefer regular fuel to the premium otherwise required by the LS3 (manual only). My only hunch is that the L98 has more in common with the Vortec 6200 than the LS3, but I may be mistaken.

Either way, I'm still under the impression that a V6 RS Camaro will hold up well against the Z, despite being down some 30 BHP. Most-likely, people would choose the SS by comparison, and I think that becomes somewhat of a blowout when were talking about a 90 BHP difference.

The only sideways kink in all of this is if/when Ford gives us the 2.3L EcoBoost I4 or the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Either options would make for an interesting game.

I dunno about a blowout...

It's all down to power delivery. The M3's top end is much more "interesting" than the 370Z's. That is, the BMW's powerband keeps increasing as you reach the redline, as opposed to the Nissan's drop off. I thought a BMW-phile would have seen this a mile away....

I haven't seen a dyno plot for the VQ37HR, so I prefer not to make assumptions. Yes, as car guy in general, I understand 'the area under the curve' --and as a BMW-phile it would be tempting for me to presume the HR has the same top-end weaknesses older VQs had. We had a VQ powered car and it was definately soft at the upper range. That's why first gen 350Zs could barely outrun 240hp E36 M3s.

But it could have simply come down to a pre-production car that wasn't fully optimized and in the final stages of being tuned for US emissions and gas. Or it could have been tested at higher altitudes. Or it could have simply had a green engine. Or it could have had a slipping clutch from being hammered by journalists. In short, any number of other factors could have been responsible.

If you look at magazine tests for the Z4 M Coupe, they trap in the 105s. But most tests for the Roadster trap in the 107s. Same exact powertrain in both cars and the Roadster weighs barely 20 lbs. less than the Coupe. Makes you go "Hmmmm", doesn't it?

Or you could be right and the HR is just another VQ that looks good on paper but can't compare with Garching's finest in reality. I guess only time will tell.

. It has better performance numbers than the 350Z, is loud and bumpy inside, and looks like it eats babies for lunch. In what way is any of that "classy"?

I don't like it. It's not sporty enough and too classy. Went from Tuner to luxury too fast...

Yet it didn't.

I found the Z32 and 33 to be lardasses...

But this, it's different. It's got class, but it's got good/great performance as well. And it's affordable. Quite a winner. Oh and VQs sound awesome uncorked a bit.

I seen commercials of the Nissan 370Z during either/both the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl. I'm not really much a Nissan guy, and while not really sold on the 350Z (not to say I hate it), I'm even less sold looks-wise on the 370Z. It's sharper in design with a little more edge and character, but... I'm disconnected on its style. Those front and rear light designs have to go. Only Z's I've loved were the 240Z and 260Z. This one isn't going to make my all-time Z-car list anytime soon.

as long as you don't go up past 5500rpm or so. The best sound a VQ makes is between 4000 and 5000. I'll have to see if this extra hoarseness magazines are talking about is really all the bad.
