No Cockpit eye level Hood view for standard cars CONFIRMED

I actually didn't know this. I really haven't been following the game. To not even have a hood cam is just plain ridiculous. The more I have learned, seen etc involving GT5 over the past few days the more and more disappointed I've become.

At first I thought only premium cars will have a hood view but amar has confirmed no hood view at all. I feel like I got punched in the stomach when I read it. Looks like us hood view players need to adjust to the "Narrower" cockpit view since that's the closest thing to hood view. :(

Amazing, no one at PD even considered that maybe the standard cars should have a hood view since they did not have cockpits

Its is not only amazing, but simply SHOCKING...polyphony guys, especially yamauchi are very strange, they have a great attention to detail, they include some minor irrelevant details but they forget some big features...(changing Horn sounds and no hood view ? seriously...:ill:)

I would like to hear the rationale from Sony/PD for not including a hood view. Did they believe it wasn't necessary with the other views? "we know what is best for you" mentality? production of game too insular and no outside views (no pun intended)? etc. etc.
:)

Not quite...

"Bumper cam" is almost identical to cockpit cam in terms of height, just without the frame of the cockpit blocking 50% of the screen. Therefore there is a cockpit eye level view, just with no part of the car visible.

The hood view in GT5P wasnt too bad, so when I read that AE86 wouldnt have cockpit, I thought owh well, at least I`ll get I`d have that till they can get cockpit for the AE86.

But now that I took a closer look at the car list to see what other cars has and doesnt have cockpit view, the FT-86, which is a mere concept car, DOES have cockpit, whereas the AE86, the legendary car which the FT-86 is based on, DOES NOT, and in addition to that, wont even have hood view cockpit..

I`m not going to come with any puns or offenses here, since PD seems to not care anyways.

But I would like to ask:
Does anyone have Polyphony`s email or something?

I`d be more than happy to share with them the pictures of my ae86`s cockpit from all views and angles, and I know a TON of other people that would probably be willing to help out as well. Also, since they didnt even add the Coupè versions, I`m more than happy to give them pics of the exterior, measurements, etc, as well.

I'm fairly worried about this one. Essentially zero of my favorite cars are premium. Well, the 512bb might end up being a favorite. But Yellowbird, Alpine 1600, e-type, etc etc. All are standard. I didn't care when we assumed we would get a downgraded cockpit but at least have a cockpit. I really don't want to move back to bumper cam. I very much prefer a cockpit view (which as pointed out has been available in basic form in every other sim for about 10 years now. If we really aren't getting cockpits in any standard cars that is pretty darn close to unforgivable in my book.) Heck, even a truly generic cockpit would be better than nothing.

It's too bad, because in all other ways this game looks like it really shaped up. But it only takes one major blunder to spoil a game for many...

The good new though is that the racing sim market is really taking off. It won't be many years until there are some products which can truly compete with Gran Turismo. That will not only give us more choice, but will also hopefully force PD to get on the ball with a few of these basics.

I'm still crossing my fingers that either these reports are wrong or that we will get some basic cockpits as an update. (Fingers crossed, toes crossed too!)

Plenty of people have played the game, and my local GAME store has (just this morning) received its shipment of GT5. The game is real, and the game is out there.

Awesome! any chance of getting a pic? this is worthy of a "news update" (imho, ymmv)
:)

I have no means to acquire such a picture, just heard through word of mouth. Given the game is out next week, it's hardly news-worthy.

This is extremely newsworhty considering the game release has been delayed! Do you think your source is incorrect or mistaken about GT5 being in the shops?

Dude! Check out the NEWS page!! I told you a pic of GT5 games this was newsworthy!! You could have been famous!!
:dopey:

Game is good, disappointed with the hood view, makes me feel like I am driving a semi. Bumper view is decent. I will have to get used to the cock-pit view, which is alright with me. Seems weird for me to use a wheel while I see my wheel in-game.

I'm still hoping they will add this view with a patch.

The bumper cam is nice, but I have more than once hit a car in front of me, because I can't judge where my front bumper is. It seems there is still some space, but before you know it, you bump into him.

And can't really call it a bumper cam can we: it's at eye and cockpit level, but without cockpit being visible. The cam is not located at the bumper.

I also wish that an update lets us choose the proper camera place so we could place it on the hood of the standards, and also to have a rear view mirror like the bumper cam.
