No Cockpit eye level Hood view for standard cars CONFIRMED

It shouldn't be so hard to implement a limitless camera, that you can place whereever you want. inside the car anywhere in any angle or even into the trunk, if you want to.

this is one of the reasons its gonna suck its not coming out on PC.

PC users would have had a standard interior cockpit cam mod within a few weeks of release.

just look at F1 2010, tons of bugs at release but the mod guys jumped on it straight away and now theres tons of awesome stuff for it.

pity we wont see that sort of thing with it being console only :(

That's a great idea but it would still require an interface for the user to setup the camera. I think just implementing a proper hood cam would be the simplest solution for all the Cockpit only drivers who just want to know they are driving a car and not some invisible flying carpet. Seriously a proper hoodcam is the bare minimum in every racing game out there does not have cockpit view.

So true, but I was reading the general discussion and they said Kaz forgot brake upgrades, I checked the vid and no brakes, so right now my expectation of GT5 being great are gone, even with the long development time this is looking more and more a rushed product, it'll pass time and be fun for what it's worth until GT6 comes out.

Yeah I cant race with cockpit view. Something about videogames, you feel like you're sitting in the backseat, you cant see hardly anything.

The viewpoint is usually where your eyes would be in a real car so I am not sure how it feels like being in a back seat other than that you are not used to it so it may feel clostrophobic at first...

I mean sure you physically are in where teh back seat would be as in your couch is several feet back from the screen and the screen is where the eyes should be but by that notion when playing FPSs you are behind the guys head... that's not how it feels is it?

I think it's just a thing to get used to at first... I know when I race bumper cam I feel like I am floating in front of the car and I don't even have a car, I am just driving an ivisible box that may or may not bump into things if I cut it too close (which I have no visual reference to avoid). I wouldn't be surprised if it's the opposite switching to cockpit view.

that makes no sense. when you drive in real life, is all you see a DFGT or a g27? hell no, you see what you're driving. the cockpit view is the most realistic and you're little argument there is rediculous although I would die laughing if I saw some moron walking down the middle of the street, pretending to be driving with a g27 in his hands, dragging the cables along behind him LOL that's you buddy

I think an option to turn on or off the visible steering wheel would be nice... those with wheels can just position their wheel close to the TV (or in a cutout of the screen if you have a projector) and those who have controllers still get to see a wheel.

Just use the Driver's view cam(Aka First person view).Best view in my opinion as this gives you the best sense of speed.

I drive much faster this way and i use my rear view and surround sound system to let me know where the other drivers are when they are not in my field of view.

The only time i use Cockpit is to just check it out and then i drive 1 race with it and i'm done.Just not my style.

...what's wrong with the roof cam that we had in GT4? It's clearly still in the game, and tbh I find it a very functional method of racing. Sure it's not a full blown cockpit, but christ; you're being given 1000+ cars; meticulously modelling every single one would've taken a decade or more.

What is WITH the hate-and-disappointment brigade storming the forum? If I didn't know better, I'd say that GT5 was the worst driving sim ever crafted judging by some of the comments I'm reading.

I find the roof view very unpleasant as it puts me over other cars... it makes no sense that I can see over a car in front of me... part of racing for me is the occlusion of view when you are close behind someone. It's part of the gamble of tucking in behind the next car.

Am not a fan of the roof cam, but its ok, I don't really mind the lack of a bonnet cam as the 1st person view is pretty much an eye level viewpoint anyway, this is also what I have been using since GT1 release day so am pretty au fait with it!

The whole taking forever to model interiors is an excuse, nothing more. PD has a huge staff, and the 1000+ cars are hardly all vastly different. Let's see....9 NASCAR cars with the same cockpit...various Civics, Skylines, Miatas, etc with very similar cockpits.

PD does not have a huge staff. And there are a 1000 cars to choose from and still many different type of cars. And they managed to put in more content in this game than any other racing game dev company ever.

Their staff ain't small, that's for sure. And honestly, I couldn't care less if there's 100,000 cars if they don't all drive believably. Quality over quantity. If they claim they don't have the staff nor time to model cockpits, then what can be said about the actual driving physics (you know....the real meat to the game), especially the standard cars? They going to just port the GT4 physics over?

I find it alarming during this whole dev process, they never have gone in detail to what they've changed under the hood. Its been all glitz and glamor.

They used all that staff to write the new game engine.

The physics are part of the game engine.

New game engine equals new physics.

Inquiry resolved!

Yeah I'm surprised, I thought Kaz was working on something for all us Cockpit view only drivers, eg a nice proper hood view at the same eye level as the cockpit view, so we could atleast feel like we were still in a car. Even Forza 2 did this. WTF

Wow, where have you been? We knew that donkey years ago.

Then why haven't they touted the game as having the best driving physics out there? Why haven't there been videos showing improvements? Oh wow rolling...that was in games 15 years ago.

I have a feeling its largely the same as before, which really wasn't anything special or believable. I want to race cars. Not ogle over them in photo mode.

sorry bro but there never once was a hood cam in the demos. it was always roof cam. it's just hard to tell, BECAUSE THERE"S NOT THAT BIG OF A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

I think some people might have been refering to this demo (:39) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWdtRu7ztRo this would have been a fantastic alternative to no cockpits for standard cars.

a little disappointed with PD choices i've seen over the past few days. seems as though they should'nt have scrapped the whole GTHD (Gran Turismo 4 upscaled to hd) that was supposed to release in the first year of the PS3. probably would of had a better track list and the cars in GT5 are the same as GT4 with only a couple add ins.

omg perfect...

Why pd???? Why?????

That is pretty much perfect WTF was it removed?

The tagline is "the real driving simulator". It's right on the GT5 poster I'm looking at on my wall. How are they not touting physics? They have always touted physics in this series and almost every GT5 article previewing the game mentions physics.

How do you tout physics in a video? The cars look, on video, like they move around pretty realistically. When you're watching a video you don't know what the driver's hands are doing and you don't feel a thing so you're not going to get much of an idea on physics regardless besides they look either realistic - like in GT5, rFactor, whatever... or cartoony, like in Burnout and NFS. Graphics, however, you can look at and judge accurately quickly - so they get advertised.

Also, PD have consistently drawn attention to the fact that they made a whole new engine for GT5. It's always talked about when Kaz discusses how long 5 has taken, and he says 6 won't take so long because the engine was built brand new for 5 and it took forever to do it. Talking about the game engine is talking about the physics.

Rolling, regardless of how long it's been in other games, is new to GT and they've been showing it off. More physics.

How much more do you possibly want them to tout the physics of the game?

Check 8:37, that's a proper hoodcam not roof cam
gt5hoodcam.jpg

It's a roof cam, at 4:02 with a GT by Citroen passing by indicate the cam is over the windshield at roof height. Like in this other video, what seems to be a bonnet cam is in fact over the windshield.

Before in Gamecon 2010 demo proper hood cam

In standard cars video by tekken at 0:19 roof cam

Why did PD remove the proper hood cam which would have been awesome for standard cars in the Full Retail version of GT5????????????????

I doubt an SLS driver would have his eyes at the same height as a GTR35's spoiler, if it was a hood view the cam wouldn't be angled down that much or you'd have the hood covering half the screen, I'm pretty sure Paris Hilton can't see the nose of the bonnet like in this picture, it's clearly a cam at the edge of the roof over the windshield, not on the roof but at the same height.

I always used roof view so this whole standard vs premium thing is just funny to me

I tried out the GT5P roofview and I was pleasantly surprised that it is quite decent. The pilot has a slight wider view (at least to my eye the view looks a bit wider?) and you can see the front of your own car and how close it is to other cars during a race.
:)

Look at how much of the screen the hood of the SLS take up on the screen vs the roof cam shot from the standard video. Sure the SLS is wider than the compact but not by that margin
