No GT5 till 2010

I'm still confused as to why Polyphony is treating Prologue as a completely seperate game when it was originally meant to be a heavily watered-down, simplified version of the full GT5. Anything they have in Prologue will most likely make it to the full game (with fixes, etc.) so why not just focus on making the full GT5 and only bring certain content into Prologue through updates? Wouldn't this make development quicker and simpler?

Yes I too am confused. The way he's talking about it, it's like they're not doing what they should be doing (i.e. implement feature in "project" called GT5, do some preliminary testing, do some alpha testing, put the feature in project "Prologue" for beta testing). If for example they implement private rooms, they would implement the feature in GT5, and then just copy it to Prologue.

Has anyone considered that some confusion may be due to translation?

Hideo Kojima had to correct a few statements he supposedly made after the meaning was totally lost in translation.

It could be that he doesn't have a deadline for GT5 because they are testing all the features in Prologue, and until they do that they cannot give a definitive GT5 timeline.

-"Excuse me sir, but is GT6 out yet?"

-"Nope, though I think GT6 Prologue will be out in a few months..."

I think what made GT2 and GT4 so successful is that by the time those came out, they were huge games on a widespread, highly successful gaming console.

I can see the advantages of waiting 'till 2010, but yeah... it's kinda bumming me out. GT5 is about 75% of the reason why I'm even getting a PS3. I enjoy the series so much, and really it's been the only series I could trust to come out with a quality product. So I trust their decision. If they want to push it out for 2010, then it only makes me more anxious and excited.

Although, isn't it interesting how when GT5 finally releases in 2010, the PS3 would've lived for 3 years and if you know Sony Playstation history... their consoles only live for 6 years or so, meaning the PS3 would've already lived half it's life before being replaced by the next generation. It also kind of raises questions about GT6... Will it be available for PS3? Will Polyphony have reduced their production to only 1 actual game per console?

6 years? The PS2 is on it's 8th and is still doing quite well, and there are still new games being released for it.

The PS2 is being phased out... seeing as how it was the best selling console of all time, I'd prolong it's production too until the demand shifted to PS3 (which it is, rapidly as I've been looking and not finding any anywhere). PS2 was released in 2000, the PS3 was released in 2006. I'm only considering the time between PS2's release through PS3's release.

Sony has a 10 year plan for it's consoles (as they have said many times during press conferences), PS2 will be supported until atleast 2010 and it is still going strong now considering it's age.

I'm fine with this, due to the fact I want the game to be as good as possible. Take your time PD.
Agree that they should get the game as good as possible, but they could have skipped Prologue and only work with the full game..

One thing I really, really want, is standing starts or more realistic staggered grid rolling starts, not these single file with a big gap between every car where you start half a mile behindfirst even though your only 8th, starts. If they added that into Prologue I would be much happier with the races. I understand there may be a slow down problem if they do have all 16 cars starting at the same time close together, but there are ways they can limit this problem. I hate the starts as they are now though.

They do have standing starts in multiplayer, I like them, but not the havoc that usually happens in the first corner.

I totaly agree, take your time and continue the good job PD!

But dont forget the updates for the GT5 Prologue! :sly:

Going off of the Kaz interview in the GT5 prologue threads ,it looks as if 2010 is an appropriate time frame,as long as the updates are good and keep everybody enthused , and PD takes their time to do GT5 correctly , I think it will be worth the wait .

2010 wouldn't surprise me at all, but at least Prologue-players are like beta-testers for the features and aspects of the game that PD will include in GT5. I'd rather wait longer for a well-tested, solid game than have a game with bugs and untested, user-unfriendly features rushed to store shelves.

-> If GT5P will have some nice updates, I won't mind waiting...unless my internet (for my PS3) goes back up again. :(

I have given up on the PS3 all together for the moment - I got it release day & have been waiting for a decent car game since then - GT5P is a joke, although i bought the import version & then the PAL version release day i am still dissapointed & have lost all interest & faith in the GT series. Then i have tried RaceDriver Grid, again bought on release day with high hopes of at least what V8 supercars 3 was, but i was wrong - It lasted 6 hours in my PS3 before i took it out.

I have been into my racing sims for a few years now & the only true game/simulator that gives me any satisfaction is a PC game called Live For Speed. Its a great game with a fantastic comunity & its really geared towards online racing.

Farewell GT forums untill GT5 is released & then hopfully i will be converted back to GT, but lets face it PD has alot of work to do & its not just PD either - It seems that the PS3 game devolopers are preoccupied with visuals rather then improving on gameplay & picking up where they left of in previous versions to improve.

Asta la vista.

^ That's hasta la vista...

The date's disappointing, but GT4's still a lot of fun. I can wait. PD just needs to keep us better updated on what new features they've got and how far they're getting along.

So...now we must wait until 2010?? Great:indiff:

Why update things on Prologue?? After GT5 realease no one will care...so instead of doing this, focus on the real thing PD.

I guess I will be playing GT4 for another 2 years:indiff:

So...why the hell I bought a PS3?? Good thing I have a XBOX 360 too...

This is just speculation, PD and Sony have said nothing about a specific release date yet.

Because player feedback and online testing helps them make GT5 better.

That's your loss. I play GT4 for the tracks/cars and Prologue for the online matchups with other GTPers.

So...why the hell I bought a PS3?? Good thing I have a XBOX 360 too...
Because it is technologically superior to the other two next-gen consoles. And, more importantly, the motherboard doesn't melt every three months.

I know it seems like a long time, but that's what GT5:P is here for. GT4 is great, but you can't race against real people with a lot of skill. If it weren't for the online mode, I would have stopped playing Prologue months ago.

online really helps....for now.Cant they just release a 70% near perfect GT5 early 2009 with heaps of tracks and cars, and just patch the rest later?????? I say this bcause right now I have no PS3 (share my cousins one) and will not buy one till GT5 comes out.

I just think that going further with GT5 Prologue its a waste...and I´m not the only one thinking that.
I always liked Gran Turismo because of the main feat, the Career Mode...and of course, for me, GT Prologue games are bit "waste". I know its better than nothing, but it doesn´t satisfy me a bit.

About the PS3...yeah its a good console, no questions about it...but if I knew GT5 would take soooooo long, I would bought it wayyyyyy later. For now I enjoy the 360...a lot!!!!
