No used cars

I'd like the used cars to appear randomly, and not on a rotating basis. Each car should have hidden value that dictates how many days each game year it should show up. The condition of the car should be random too, sometimes it could be almost perfect condition, maybe special rare cars could be as good as new with only a couple of hundered miles on them, but they would be very expensive.

I'm all for used cars, but there is a Japanese bias in general that's always existed in GT.

Someone else mentioned that you wouldn't start out racing with a shiny new sports car, and I agree with that as well.

The point of starting with little money that only gets you a used, slow car is to get you to appreciate coming from nothing and building your own dynasty of cars as you rack up trophies.

When one set of races wins you enough money to buy that new clutch and you have just enough for weight reduction, you really get a sense of earning your way to a fast car and the privilege to drive it. I think a lot of bad drivers in the future online experience will clearly be seen with a car they are not worthy to own.

I do like the used cars, and just to touch base within the last couple of posts, they should make it easier to find the cars. Instead of GT making us make the cars lists...they should just incorporate a car checklist of some sort, so you can search the whole database of cars in the game, and it should list where they will be located...ie whether it's only a new car, prize car, used car, etc. But along with that, for used cars, it would NOT tell you whe it's available, just to keep things interesting for the players who like finding the "gems" and such. Me personally, have never reallly thought of it like that, and didn't care about the mileage or anything like that, and I could appreciate it more I guess. But after I beat the game, I was just trying to find all of the cars, whether they were expensive, cheap, high or low miles, i didn't care. I just wanted it unlocked for arcade mode lol. But with the PS3, it's hard to say what PD is going to do, or how the're going to incorporate the cars for GT5...now that they can also use online as a resource. Just my 2 cents...

it shouldn't take all day to buy a used car - nor should it be possible to travel to, tune for and race a 24 hour endurance race in just one day.

Spot on, both of you. That would be great. And to everyone else, I can understand that a used car lot is more fun/realistic when you have to search through it and you get a better feeling when you find "the gem in the dirt", but truth be told, after I completed 100%, i just wanted all the cars unlocked.

This thread is highly ironic given the thread starter's username.

As is this. So much for "Anycar".

But your basic complaint is "Japanese bias on cars". Well, hold the front page, JJ.

There's always going to be a Japanese bias in Gran Turismo - it's a Japanese game. So you want more non-Japanese cars? That just translates as "more cars please" - something practically guaranteed by the new hardware. That said, there are more non-Japanese cars in GT4 than there were cars in total in GT3 AND GT1 - but still people weren't happy.

Encyclopedia - in the Used Car lists in GT4 there are:

And maybe a couple of others I missed. That's quite a selection of some quite interesting not-Japanese cars...
Now i see why im to stay away from this guy

I think the used car lot will never go away, because it adds a twist the game, but the used car lots in previous GT games offer some rare cars and bargains.

ok, this goes to the people who dont want used cars, damage or maitenance: Gran Turismo is a racing simulator. do yall know what that word means, or do i need to tell you what the word simulator means? it means it simulates the real world. and i dont think that gran turismo 5 should sacrifice the used car linup, the maitenance, the washing, or the oil change just because there are people out there who would rather have racing games where you dont worry about anything other than buying a nice new car and racing it without having to worry about a single thing else. on the same note, i support the realistic damage idea, and i think that you should have to fix it after the race is over, instead of letting the PS do it for you. that goes along with the rags 2 riches thing, if you start out having to buy a used car for 5000-1200 bucks, how the 🤬 can you afford to have a team replace the engine, fix damage and all that other good stuff? maybe you should be able to hire a team to do that, but you should have to pay for that as well. and, i think used cars should come with realistic damage, the more damage the cheaper the car, and some should come as only chassis or something, and you can pay to have it restored. they shoudl make this as realistic as possible. if you want a racing game where everything is hanldled for you, stick with cheap 12 buck combo pack racing games like mustang racing or corvette racing.

I to agree that the used car lots are great and a needed feature for any true version of the GT series. My vision would be that in some distant future version maybe GT6 or whatever that the GT simulation mode or a GT online simulation mode would be created. With this you would have basically complete randomness to most of the features of the game. Both Used and New car lots would only have a certain amount of vehicles especially the first few months after the game is released. Meaning lets say there is some special cars there may only be a total of 10,000 available at the start of the game or less. First come first serve. The rest of the players would have to wait until some one sells them or a certain amount of time maybe 6 months game time when a few more start to show up. I also really want the ability even in GT5 to have online used car lots. Meaning you can sell you cars to online car lots. They would keep the miles and parts that you put on them and paint jobs etc. The end result would be thousands of used cars in varius states of condition and you never know what you may find.

I kind of like the whole simulation idea you're speaking of, but it seemed like PD faced a lot of wrath with similar ideas that they were at first going to try with the microtransactions in GTHD until they scrapped the retail release version of the game. It is kinda cool, but it is still a game, and me being one of the people who likes to collect all of the cars originally in the game, and then add on to that with online packages or something like that if PD were to have something like that, than I would love it. But it'll be interesting to see what PD decides to do. Heck, I just want online racing to start, I'm not even worried about the cars right now.

I want to keep used cars, it keeps the game more realistic. If you don't want to start out with a used car, import credits from GT4 (if available) or use a cheat.

To date, the GT series has featuered exactley zero cheats for people to use. You can hack the code, with a hacking device but that is not a cheat so to speak, it's manipulating the games code and you need the device to do it in the first place. but I agree, used cars should remain.

^ Good thing that was an issue back on GT3, in which I have the Lambo Diablo there, now there is no such thing on GT4 (I mean Game Shark-type cheats).

-> Importing credits/achievments from GT1 to GT4 onto GT5 would be awesome! Imagine, we will get few cars that is not typically available on both new/used car showrooms and race/license car prizes if you don't have any pre-GT5 data, more points and rewards that way. :dopey:

-> If GT3 was able to feature used cars, then GT3 would have been a perfect GT game. (:

speaking of Lambo Diablos, you can get one in GT4....just take the Cizeta Moroder V16 and give it the 5-hole Alfa Romeo Wheels! :dopey:

It's still not a Lamborghini Diablo. Different engine, gearbox, styling (it's similar, but far from the same). The only connection the Cizeta has with the Diablo is that it was originally designed as a potential Countach replacment, but Lamborghini turned it down and chose the Diablo instead.

Well of course it aint a Diablo, i was just messing around. The front end looks quite similar to a Diablo, but i know that it is a completely different vehicle.

Classic Anycar, you don't seem to realise the beauty of Licence Tests. I've done two out of three of them in GT1 (all golds... :P) and I've got the Dodge Concept and a tuned-up Supra, and I've only just started and I've still got 10,000 credits. I'm sure this could be applied to GT4?

I agree although licence tests can be a bit of a pain, they really do teach you valuable driving techniques. I have all 80 golds in GT4 and I now consider myself as a very able driver. If i didn't have to bother with licence tests I certainly wouldn't be as good driver as I am currently. In fact for me it is now the best test of ability on the game.

Getting back to the point Used cars in GT5. I am not so sure, When GT3 didn't have used cars I was very disappointed, however I have recently realised that starting the game in a small low powered hatchback is better than starting the game in a relatively high power 80's Skyline, since if I don't start my Sunday cup of with a hatchback then the whole of the cars in that catagory will be ignored since you wouldn't normally go for a worse car than you started with, which leaves there only real use, for being for one make races which are easy and pointless.

I don't know about other people, but I find it enjoyable to start the game with a slower, generally 'dried up' piece of machinery, to make all the races more interesting. I like making a racecar out of a hunk of junk. I like turning cruddy, slow, heavy, understeery crap into something that can compete with other cruddy, slow, heavy, understeery crap that has been turned into a racecar. I just want to show-off the cars that most people would think were crap, as awesome pieces of machinery that can compete with, say, a Lotus Elise, or a Ford Focus RS, even though it is only a Fiat Punto. I have different tastes than most people, I can tell. I know many people who would be very upset if they couldn't get a Ferrari at the beginning of the game. Well, I'd be upset if I couldn't get some old junkers and turn them into something awesome.

Just for info, the reason I like the slower cars is because everyone generally likes the faster ones, so I stick up for the less popular ones like the Mini, Fiat 500, Nissan Cube, etc. I also like to stick up for the classics that many would call lame, or slow, or even ugly by today's standards. I'm sorry, but I have a major beef with someone who calls a classic Alfa Romeo ugly (and it's happened :grumpy:).

I would hate to see used cars go. I'm a lover of 60's to 80's cars and I don't like driving the new cars.

I've been thinking, technically, aren't used cars anything that have been driven off the lot? So if the developers gather car data in 2007, that would make every pre-2007 car a "used" car. That would kind of cut the car list down a bit don't you think?

There were '00 and '01 cars in the used car section in GT4, and in some dealers a car from '00 or '02 were placed in the "new" section. Doesn't make much sense.

They should have a new system, where the dealerships have the new cars, from the past 5 years. Then there should be other dealerships (split up the same way as the new car dealerships) which have the classics (old mustangs, chevelles, corvettes, jag e-types, bmw 2002's, original Mini coopers, etc.) and then the used dealerships can have all the cars kind of inbetween. Extending on that idea, the used dealerships can have some of the same exact cars (i mean the same exact models/years) as the new and classic dealerships, but the cars just have high miles and are dirt cheap and may be in bad shape both drivetrain and body-wise (if theres damage). Hopefully you can understand what i'm trying to say.

No, a 2004 car that has never been registered and driven off the lot is still a new car, technically. the older cars in GT3 were new beause they were bought as new cars, no miles on the clock (though irl new cars do have some miles on the clock), new condition ect.

I don't know how you can buy a '99 Viper GTS that's never been driven. That car in GT4 I believe has zero miles on it. Some old S-class race cars have zero miles on them..I mean come on.

Anyway, I'm more concerned with the sloppy organization of cars between dealers and "used" sections. Just go back to what GT1 had and fit each dealer section with a "used" section.

I also don't like the used car rotation that is kept mainly a mystery. How do cars just disappear and reappear? I say let the full selection be offered, every car, all the time, but vary the miles/price/color day-to-day.

It's easy, you find a car thats never been driven, then buy it. I'm not saying it happens on a regular basis irl, I'm saying that technically if a 1999 car never leaves the dealer forcourt, it can still be a new car in 2007. It may not be a registered 2007 car, but as a product for sale, it's new.

I think they should keep a certain percentage of the classics and true performance cars in the new car dealer ships. After all it is a game and we can in effect simulate a dream by purchasing a 69 vette etc. with 0 miles like it just rolled out of the factory. However I also agree that for some they should also have a used car version like they have in GT4 for Lotus etc. I would also rather have say all Ford new dealer cars in one lot, meaning not a seperate lot for the classics. I also think that the used cars lots should be as random as possible and completly unpredictable. Even to the point that differnt users will start out with differnt varriations of used cars. Except that I would want some master list that is slowly reveled as you play the game. As you buy the car it gets checked off. Or you can maybe select like say a dozen cars that you want to be notified when they come up for sale etc. To me just collecting cars is a fun feature of the game. Also believe that only one use car lot is needed. However you would have ability to sort by many things like in your garage. Also if you hover over car thumbnail for maybe 10secs a full screen picture comes up. Even maybe option to compare stats on 4 or more cars. What if the used car prices themselves was a variable like in real life, constantly changing.

**** My wish would be to eventually have online used car lot, and cars you tune / paint etc. could end up there **** Heck include this in the simulation mode for users that have online abilities. Would not really have any impact on those that do not. For those that do you would have endless ammount of cars to choose from. If there was a online used car lots, prices could be effected by supply and demand. Maybe even have auctions that would be interesting. Or what if car clubs, race leagues etc. could establish their own used car lots. So many possibilities.

There are some really good Ideas here, even though I am against used cars, if some of the features you mentioned there are implemented then I would certainly change my mind

I enthusiastically agree. I've been posting from time to time about how used car lots might have specials from time to time, which could be anything from special cars, cars that have been modded, old race cars, tuner cars and whatever. Having the community add to the used car stock whenever we sell a car to the game, or however Polyphony structures it, would be a fantastic addition to the used car lot. I'd previously mentioned that we might put cars we don't want anymore in a "garage" labeled For Sale, and these cars would appear in an online used car list. When it gets sold, the buyer's money gets added immediately to your account. Things like this would certainly add even more appeal to Gran Turismo 5.
