Can be done with GT games on the same platform, GT3 was all new cars obciousely, GT concept featured new model, and GT3 models, you'll notice many of the cars you race against arn't selectable, the reasion is all the selectable cars are re-modelled to a slightly higher standard if you watch an opponent in a reply that isn't a selectable car you can see a diffference in quality. Many of the selectable cars in GTC were the re0used in GT4, I look at GTC as a kind of test bed for things including their new modelling process. It can be a good thing, tbh I wouldn't have complained if GTC and GT4 featured GT3 quality cars but PD wanted to improve them, so they scrapped tham after GTC.JohnBM01Quick question: reusing models from one GT to another... good thing or bad thing? Or does it make much of a difference? I'm just wondering...
Regarding Tenacious D's comment, regarding upcomplexing of models, it can't be done. You can maximise the usefullenss of each polygon by clever modelling and good use of textures, but you can't make a polygon do the job or 2 polygons ext. However, theres a point where poly counts become less relevant, that count according to Eden studio's is around the 10k mark (Eden are the guy's making the new Test drive game). My poersonal opinion though is that the cars in test drive, don't look as good as the 80k+ poly cars in PGR3, but they don't look twice as bad either, they arn't half as detailed ect. I personally think that once you get up and over 15k polys the usefulness of each extra poly ontop of that is lowered, as long as you use each poly properly and don't waste a load like just adding an extra few hundered polys to the back side of the wheel just because you can, ect.
