North Korea, Sanctions, and Kim Jong-un

North Korea's neighbouring countries all say that if the current plans for launching the rocket go through, they could see hefty consequences.

OOOOEEEEHHH.

What will they do? Go all UN on them and start throwing sanctions? That will help. Fatty McUn and his henchmen would still be able to stuff their faces, and the only ones suffering from new sanctions are those who are already suffering.

Just for future reference, if it does hit a random country (not the US) would China still wholeheartedly support the country or would NK be wiped out?
There's no way to say for sure until such time as it happens because it's never happened before.

I think that China would take to the world's media to highlight the true nature of life in North Korea and then take it upon herself to remove the leadership.

If it's indeed a rocket, it's a frowny face. If it's a satellite, it's frowny face plus need to re-use this in 2 weeks or so:

...Now that is a stuff of nightmares: Big Brother Kim watching us - yay. Just what we need.

Thanks man, now I've got to get rid of this laptop since it's stained with this abomination...

Although he will have the capability to watch us, have no fear, because the requirements he needs to be capable are unable to be met.

👍 China's 'relationship' with North Korea only exists due to their shared border. I can't see that they have anything to offer China other than headaches and embarrassment.

Did anybody else immediately think of that episode of "The Simpsons" where Maggie has Mr. Burns' teddy bear, so Mr. Burns punishes Homer for it? There's a scene where he's forced to turn a wheel that makes the cake display in the cafeteria rotate.

Or the episode where Bart commits treason in exchange for a mini-bike, but Homer agrees to help China build a nuclear reactor to save him - only for the reactor to explode the moment he cuts the ribbon.

Ri Yong-il, a general who has been absent from NK media coverage since January, is reported to have peacefully resigned to spend more time being dead after getting executed. BBC.

...I find the wording stating the alleged reasons quite interesting:

BBC article
South Korean media reported that Gen Ri had been executed earlier this month for corruption and "factional conspiracy"

What could that possibly mean? Is there some kind of dissension going on there within NK's power structure?
After him inheriting the power from his old man, Kim Jr has been doing his darnedst to purge the old guard - I can't really provide the sources, since I can't remember where I've read it, but it was said his father heavily favored the Military over the Communist Party but now things have switched the other way around.
Also, allegedly Kim Sr did The Purge back when he came to power, feeding thousands to the dogs. From father to son, the blood runs pretty thick in this family it seems.
