The joke is that this last week I’ve had Covid for the very first time so I’ve been forced to isolate from family in our basement, which just happens to be where the gaming system is. Up until a couple days ago I was too sick to play. Now I can and I can’t.

Also my family doesn’t want me anywhere near them. ☹️

Another point to consider is how and how slowly do you allow people to connect again, the potential for them to DDOS themselves as millions of consoles all hit those auth APIs

I know have friends and trophies and am online, but GT is throwing errors. Based on the Marvel game people saying they are in contact with Sony I'd imagine there is a backend update for self hosted platforms behind the scenes.

Makes a lot of sense.

1. Issue is identified
2. Analysis
3. Rushed fix
4. Tested
5. Partners told of the issue and given the fix/changes to make
6. Stabilise the service and roll out alowly
7. Wait for partners to report stability

And this is across thousands of servers distributed globally, 3rd party (some first party but not Sony managed) and then planning the phased bringing things back online, service by service.

This points to one of the shared services likely authentication or authentication tokens and sharing. Speculation on my part but there aren't a lot of shared services from a game level that don't start with knowing the user and that they are authenticated.

I seem to be able to log back into PSN services (I don’t have any friends, but I can view my trophies, watch clips from other players and buy games)
I tested it by buying the Warlords of New York expansion for The Division 2
 
It's around 4 pm here in Brazil, and I've just booted the game in my PS4. It seems to be working again.

Seems the Ubisoft servers have imploded now
Keep getting Uniform-01 every time I try to login to any of their games
(Tbh the only Ubisoft games I play nowadays are The Division 2 and The Crew Motorfest)

No, mainly because he probably plays GT7 in debug mode, on a PC or on a PS5 not connected to the web, with all cars available in the garage.

Did all that yesterday... Today I’m all on my own and the weather outside is freezing and overcast. It’s especially on days like these (Saturday and Sunday) that people need the servers to function.

On the contrary, I think it's because he plays the game that it's this way. Not a lot of people want to say no to his direction, and he's a wealthy older gent who likes cars but has also developed other passions....like photography.

I don't know who else wields any directional power internally but I'd think like most businesses he is presented with things in a very "framed" way like most CEOs are. His day to day is probably a lot less than you'd imagine from the early days.

Probably no, based on history. Likely that the manu will be skipped as well but PD have a some control of their stuff.

But honestly no, this wasn't their issue and unless it has impacted stuff for them internally (and I'm speculating) it will BAU come Monday and some very tired senior engineers and dev ops guys come Monday but things will stay as they are unless the quick fix is a bandaid but there are bigger infrastructure things that need fixing.

It's clear that whatever this was is requiring games devs to make changes, and as I said previously it's either storage security or account auth changes at the backend. We will never know but my money is a change (not malicious) went wrong and that they changed a core mechanic to how PSN trusts authenticated users. This is why it's an issue at a game level. Probably something as simple as having to white list the right IP range but DNS is a fickle beast. There are loads of other equally plausible reason though.
 
Back to normal here in Norway, missed the second run, but it looks like I'm the only one in GT3 League who missed it :confused:, now I "have" to do the 30 lap Spa...
Oh well, at least I can do the rest of the Weekly Challenges and complete today's Daily Workout.
