I have been a long time sim racer, since the original Gran Turismo days. I am always looking for the next game that is more realistic than the next. I have been playing project cars until this game came along. I use to be in a line of work where i received significant tactical driving training. Sort of like you would get in a police academy, but more intense. I must say that the physics of this game is spot on (for a sim). The car flexes like it should on diffrent types and psi of tires. Going off track at a buck 40 feels like it really does, brakes feel like they should. All of that is great. But im really unimpressed by the amount of options you have. Plus the fact you can't map keys is almost a deal breaker. I know updates will come, so i remain hopeful. I understand about the rain, i also have a background in IT and have a small understanding of what would go into simulating a wet track in a sim. The amount of variables. So that is all i wanted to say, what do ya'll think?

This makes it sound like you have been racing on consoles only, do you have a gaming capable PC or any of the PC exclusive sim racers (iRacing, R3E, Automobilista etc)?

It may not sound helpful, but the only advice I could give to you if your passion for driving sims is as strong as you say, is to buy a new or upgrade your current PC. For Assetto Corsa alone, you can probably change/use/install all the options your heart desires, there are some nice tools and apps that are not available in the base game that give you access to so much more. What are these extra options you feel are missing by the way?

Then you'll have the other benefit of having access to a number of other extremely good racing simulators that are and will never be available on console, some of which I mentioned above.

It may not sound helpful,...............

You're dead right there. I understand exactly where he is coming from and fully agree.

I used to be a PC gamer and gave up because of all the hassles, the constant updates, the endless expense of new video cards, CPUs, RAM etc, etc. Now I just want plug "n" play. Buy a new console every 3-5 years and know that what ever game I buy will work on it.

I should add here and get to play with all my friends on PSN as we all evolve into the new games. Sadly AC also lets us down badly here with no private lobbies >:-(

I also should remind you Kunos said (numerous times prior to launch) that the console version would be the same experience as the PC version. So the console users have ended up with a cut down version that badly lags behind the PC version with no private online lobbies.

We can't even map custom buttons or calibrate wheels and pedals!

We have gotten a bum deal here and there is only so long we can enjoy a "hot lap simulator".

I (and my friends) have even gone back to PCARS to race online and I hate that game! I am even considering going back to GT6 where most of my friends still are.

Agree about PCs, regarding AC being the same as pc, Kunos always maintained the physics would be the same as pc. I never saw them say the whole software would be the same. Though lobbies are coming and Stefano has said the idea is to bring console version in line with pc so lets hope we get all options.

I've barely experienced PCARS, though with so much fun with Assetto Corsa I'd find it hard to leave it. I haven't even touched GT6 in years as it is close to a full throttle game let alone the not so good feeling of the tracks.

If you are content hot lapping with AC then that is fine. Whatever floats your boat. I really miss the fierce online rivalry with my friends and the randoms that drop into open rooms from time to time. How else do you meet new people to race with?

Frankly it's quiet easy, look for a room, invite your friends, if there are enough people looking for the same room they will join. The only problem i have experienced is that once you leave it's not easy to get back in, but with a simple "Everyone that joins sends an invite to everyone" Means you will be able to join during the qualifying laps. In my region though there is only a handful players so most of the time it is hot lapping but that's not a big deal, at least it's an awesome experience.

They said it would drive the same. They didn't say it would be the same game. And if you looked at the media that they were putting out prior to the console release it was clear that it was not the same game.

I have mine since April 2015 and I haven't opened it since. The choice for upgrading is yours to make if you only desire the best of the best, but with a good starting combo you can manage years just like with a console. Also the plug and play thing isn't too far off, practically all games I bought from steam worked fine from day one, and with an HDMI and a wireless keyboard you can sit on the couch just like you would with a PS4/ XBone. We've probably been over this before, but anyhow for me it isn't a hassle at all. :)

First, let me say that I am 100% on the side of the console players. I think Kunos needs to improve a lot of things with the console version quickly! However, one thing that kind of makes me scratch my head is: I keep hearing people say "My God...If you go online, there are like 8 people online - never any more than that..." and at the same time they say, "My friends and I are pissed because we can't make a private lobby and race." If there are so few people online, can't you just grab one of those constantly empty lobbies for you and your pals?

This isn't a question accusing anyone of anything...I truly don't know how it works. Maybe what I just suggested isn't possible. I don't know. If someone wouldn't mind filling me in on how it works for console players, maybe I would better understand their predicament. :boggled:

You're making it sound like it's the console user's fault for not guessing they would be missing a lot of the features present in the PC version, when in fact what they said was that the main difference between those versions would be the user interface and a downgrade in the graphics department - which would explain the differences we saw in the media released.

They also mentioned that they were aiming to get the three versions of the game as close as possible, so how does that make it "clear that it is not the same game"?

Same here, had mine for two years now and haven't had to open it up or upgrade anything once. I am about to upgrade my sound card so I can do proper 5.1 but that's all of $30 and maybe 10 minutes of work. I have had plenty of hassles but for the most part I've treated it like a plug-n-play console and for the most part it's worked fine. But, occasionally I do miss the trouble-free-ness of a console, as well as the larger community you find on consoles. But now I have too many toys that wouldn't work on a console so I can't ever go back. :)

Probably has to due with online being region locked. There could be 1,000 people online at any given time but apparently you can only see the 10 people online in your region. Also, since you can only join public servers I'd imagine a lot of people aren't even bothering to go online because they'd prefer to race in private rooms with their friends. But what you described about commandeering an empty room is basically what @WarriusZero is doing with his group, probably not perfect but seems to work ok and is better than the alternative.

It's not ideal but you still have the possibility of having a great sesh with your friends using this method. The best, most interesting servers are always empty or only have one or 2 people in them. Joining a community ( ps4 community in my case) is a good way to meet other racers. As I said it's obviously not the best methods but if yoh really want to play AC online why not give it it a go? Needs must. I remember on gt prologue, my bro, a few friends and I would be on the phone and all synchronise joining the server when the clock hand hits a selected number just so we would end up in the same race lol. Was ridiculous we had to do that but it was also like hitting the jackpot when we ended up in the same race. We'd all cheer haha.

Thankfully Kunos never released this game with the intent to just move on and leave the game for dead and are listening to the customers.

Online rooms are region locked and in my region I have never seen more than 2-3 people on - ever! :-(

When I do get a couple of friends together we find it is such a narrow range of choices it gets boring very quickly.

We also do not like the dark, overcast weather that most of the tracks seem to have.

We cannot race at Black Cat County as it is not an option.

There are no endurance races where a pit stop is necessary.

Not all the cars are able to be raced.

You cannot elect to have no tuning.

Nor are you able to allow ABS. (It does make for better, closer racing IMHO)

But frankly why can't we just have fully customisable lobbies? Surely (and I have said this before) why can't the first person who enters an empty lobby be able to select all the adjustable parameters and so effectively become the room owner. All Kunos has to do is not lock the options. It can't be that hard?

People are setting the dark/overcast weather or? I wouldn't mind the dark overcast weather if the damn headlights actually beamed up the road/picked up the kerbs, LeMans style.

It can't be that hard?

If I had a dollar for every time someone said that about my job (in reference to a task that was rather difficult) I wouldn't need this job. :P Stefano recently hinted that a solution may be near, hopefully it works in a way that people will find useful (but as long as things are region locked the whole system is still going to be a bit useless).

To the PS4 players who are looking for a group to play with, have a look around in the online section (clubs and leagues), there is some racing tonight...

It's quite simple for online.

NO it is not!

Invite your 7 friends to party chat.

Of my 20 or so racing buddies there are only two that have this game until private lobbies are available.

Go to online screen,find room.

So far so good.

When in party chat, say we are going to track whatever. Go to track.

Yep we do that and then I can't see people on that track because of the region locking! Apparently the east coast of Australia is in a different region to the west coast! The only way to get to the same track is be sent a race invite.

Race rinse repeat.

Except because there are so few people online once anyone else sees there are actually people at a track randoms start dropping in. Then we get bombarded with requests to reset the track, restart and the inevitable poor online etiquette. Or to top off the 'wonderful online experience' that AC currently is, we get stuck with a dark and dingy track that we have difficulty seeing on.

All I want to do is race with my buddies on a bright and clear track, in what ever car we chose at what ever track we feel like. Surely it can't be that hard?

So no, it is not that simple to currently race online. Like I said before, the current fix is to go back to PCARS and put up with the bugs :-(

I do hope they take the region lock off. As I'd be really looking forward to seeing Americans and such really anyone who can speak english in races. I'd really love to see that!

A bit of fond memories from F1 Championship Edition jumping in between zones. Though that wasn't practical either.

Alright, alright.

Add this extra step:
Pick a lobby, but before entering it, press SQUARE to send invites to your friends. These are invites to the lobby itself and people from other regions can use them. (I know it works because I'm in the UK and we race with a Canadian chap.)

One thing, tho, once you've joined the lobby, you no longer can send invites.

As for your friends not wanting to play until private lobbies are implemented, well it's time to find new friends... :D

My experience since coming to pc gaming 2 years ago with zero experience has been pretty much perfect. The only issues I've had are minor ones like getting some apps to work but it's pretty much always my fault for not reading the instructions properly.:ouch: Big advantage for me was that my G27 works with every racing sim so there was no need to purchase a new wheel like I would have had I went the PS4 route. Another big thing is the vast selection of games to play. So many sims, so little time, whereas on PS4 it's much more limited and only the new stuff. Modding opens up a whole new world and all the apps just make everything so customizable that I'm not sure how I played without them for so long.

It's not their fault your buddies don't have the game.
It's also not their fault, that the region you live in has no one playing.
Dude I live in Canada,it's the second largest country on the earth. My online friends live in the southern eastern and western part of the US and Canada. Australia is split in half.
I don't get it?
Online ediquite, really? I'm assuming your not new to online racing? Please unless your having a lucky night it's the same with any game.
PCars, thanks I've seen your 200 posts about how garbage that game was. You actually play it?

It is the only explanation I have for not seeing friends 3,000 miles away.

You are quite correct and my opinion has not changed at all, I only play it online. You have no idea how much it irks me to do that :-( At least I can round up a couple of friends and get the AI to join to make up numbers.

Desperate measures for desperate times ;-)

I would really like to say that if AC had the same online functionality as GT6 I would be online racing right now with a smile from ear to ear and would have cancelled my pre-order for GT Sport.

What's the point of having so many features (which is great, by the way) if you can't see other cars and/or if you are regularly disconnected?

At least the online on AC is solid.
