Number of AI Opponents

Sorry if this is already well known, could be why I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how many AI opponents there will be. I've seen the Nascar vid and there looks to be loads.
Is the AI number different for certain races? I sure hope it's more than 5 coz that really bugged me in the previous games.

So far you can have 15 other AI drivers (16 is you)
Who knows if GT5 may have another 2 cars or even 4..
16 cars on course is good enough.
Before GT5Prologue, I was mad that GT4 had only 6 cars and I was hoping for 10 ! Later I hear news GT5 will have 16!!! WOW

Well think of it this way, it does look to appear that GT5 will have a heavily armed Le Mans 24 Hour series, therefore it would definitely need more than 16 cars on the grid. But who knows.

Grid had the LMS and the 24 Hours of Le Mans and still had only 16 cars on track. It didn't work very well, but it was the best they could do. GT5 at it's current level of detail and framerate can't handle the full field anyway.

Wouldn't expect it to run 100+ cars at 60fps, though maybe 24 possibly even 32 could happen?

Even the original TOCA used to have full grids umpteen years ago and that was on a ps1! I know that gt and forza had a lot more graphical polish but with the ps3 i have got to hope for a few more on the grid, especially with online races, and especially if they have a single make race with original minis!

Possibly. PD does find ways to make magic happen. But honestly, I'm content with 16. It's more than most games today have.

Definatley won't be more than 16 cars on track at once, When too many cars get caught up in the slow turns of eiger in gt5p the framerate stutters and vsync messes up. And thats with the cars having an lod system already in place. People seem to think all cars on the track are rendered to the level of the players car, but i definatley see some lod system in place, so no way will be more than 16. Damn i'd be happy with 10 if they soughted out the dumb ai and stopped putting higher class cars in the same race as you.

I can't wait for a beefed up starting grid with new cars from Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. It will not look like any thing we've seen before to see a grid of 16 cars, all made to demolish the other, and to have such similar power. Then again, power means nothing. It's about the driver ;)

Last few times I played GT5P I noticed some frame slowdowns with many cars ahead of me, so I wouldn't expect any more than 16. 16 is definitely pushing it with dynamic weather and damage as well.

The LOD system in Prologue is very basic and with good LOD system it would be possible to render many more cars. When you see three AI cars in front of you, the fourth somewhere behind them and seen only through many windshields could be rendered in much worse graphics and you hardly notice it. And the same thing applies for road texture. The place where camera is down on the ground, road texture should be much better there, as well as grass rendered the better way. This alone would make the game look much more polished.

16 cars is way fine..
But there should be option for endurance racing and custom racing, when you get 24 cars but graphics are toned down or if you have extra PS3, It would be fine with me.

16 cars is more than enough... if they work fine with AI... if we have 50 cars with the same AI included in GT4... i will be disapointed cause when you get the 1st place... is like a time trial race... always alone.... but... 16 cars with more agressive AI (GT5p has better ia in this aspect than gt4) will give us a very fun races... that´s what i think

16 cars will be fine for me in the main game, but I do think for things like endurance & Nascar it just wont feel right without a lot more cars.

That said, at the end of the day I think for now personally the things like the damage & dynamic weather are more important features.

Am not really too bothered about this a just want some decent AI racers this time (sorry pd but IMO a lack of effort has been put into the AI :grumpy:)

16 is a decent number of cars, but pretty much every game out there right now has 16. I definitely think they need to bump it up to at least 20-24 for both online and offline, otherwise NASCAR and Endurance races won't feel right. Prologue came out a long time ago, and it had 16, so maybe PD has bumped it up? I hope so. I see no reason why GT5 couldn't handle 4-6 more cars.

First post :D

Of course, the NASCAR and all the endurance races will have to have more cars than the others, but I, to be honest, would be comfortable with a default of between 12-16, if that meant they could sort out the AI. I don't want a 24 car overtake bump fest, I want some real challenge and skill, albeit with a few less opponents.

I was hoping there would be 24 or so cars. Sixteen is good enough for me though. at least long races like the Nurburgring 24hr and the Le Mans 24hr races won't be so lonely.

Hopefully the AI will actually prove to be a challenge this time

+1:tup: And welcome to :gtpflag:

You know honestly I don't think NASCAR/WRC will have that many more cars per race than regular races, even though they should. 16 is enough for a regular production car race. I think (and this is only if PD decides to add more cars for endurance races) that NASCAR would have maybe 24 and WRC like 20ish. As much as I'd like to see it, I doubt we'll see anything more than 24 cars for ANY race, and to be honest, I'd be fine with that.
