I know the vid I captured that pic from is low-res but think about how that pic would look in high-res.
And compare it to this

Like I said, the pics I captured from a low-res vid, just think of the low-res pics in high-res. The car is the only reason why people are amazed by the pics. Hopefully, there will be a vid of the new car included in gt4. If that's a photomode pic, it sure as hell didn't a good job of looking better than the ingame graphics

MMMMM, that SKyline makes me happy in my pants.

Thinking about the body damage that would occur in real life to that car at those speeds make me sad in my pants.

amazing shots  thanks for the find 👍

And watch the screens carefully, they have added more trees that make shadows over The Nordschleife :)
PD keeps tweaking and update the track until the very end. great PD

Aren't you glad there's no damage model then?

cobra, just drop it man. If you're right, you'll be proved right, then you can be all vindicated and sing and dance about it. Until then, be secure in your beliefs and leave 'ignorant' people to theirs.

from a photography standpoint, those are all perfect pictures man
Death Horse says:
im not even interested at all in racing
Death Horse says:
but they are so good i feel compelled to look at them

it's looking pretty impressive
~Eãglé~ says:

~Eãglé~ says:
it's gonna be so cool
~Eãglé~ says:
that track's the Nurburgring Nordschleife from germany, 14k of tight, twisty, bumpy forest road like that
~Eãglé~ says:
erm
~Eãglé~ says:
14 miles rather
Death Horse says:
oh ****
Death Horse says:
i didnt know that was a video game
Death Horse says:

~Eãglé~ says:
that's Gran Turismo 4

I haven't seen any of the other posts (thanks to a sorry connection and long loading times), but by taking a look at the pictures, I can tell you that the Skyline on the front pages is the Falken Skyline that raced the 24 Hours at the Nurburgring. The saddest story about the machine is that last year, it went up as high as 3rd place, but with some trouble later in the event, fell all the way down to 53rd by race's end. Other than that, Nurburgring should be a welcome challenge. Really put my GT-One to the test, but I'd rather take it with a Viper or a Corvette or maybe even a McLaren F1 GTR. I don't care what anyone daresay, those two pictures that loaded up look almost like what I see on Speed Channel when they aren't overkilling stock cars. Maybe what I've said about GT3 will be even more true about GT4, meaning that GT4 will probably look better than real life. You know graphics are good when you can say THAT about a game! If they want to keep up the good work long after GT4, the PS3 will have to have some capabilities to be powerful and efficient enough to stay in the game, but for the final GT for PS2, it will be a very special going-away party for GT on the PS2.

I'm not a graphics fanatic, but those 2D rims are one of the few things that continue to caught my eye... in a bad way. They still look really really bad.

They are completely off the "context" with the rest of the graphics and they really spoil the overall look of the car IMO.

And I am now sure that PD will keep them that way in GT4. Which is a shame really... 👎

I agree, the rims and the trees (well pointed out godzilla_GTR) should be next up on PD's list.

^ agreed, the 2d rims need to go... but these shots do look frikken re-tarded!!! Can't wait for the mighty GT4 and kicking it on the ring with my Nismo 350Z.

If you ask me, I don't really care about the rims. As long as the car still looks stylish, that's all that matters to me. After finally seeing more pictures of the Nurburgring Nords, the Falken Skyline and the track both look outstanding. I don't know if it was PD and Konami trying to better PGR2 with Nurburgring, or game designers were finally able to come up with long race tracks, give or take 4+ cars to a track. But good job.

This track will REALLY test GT racers, I'll tell you that.

I agree, I mean when your racing you either see no car, or see the car from back/roof, inwhich you don't really get to see much of the rims anyway. Plus in replays your normally going that fast it doesn't matter & in garage/photo mode they'll just use the 'fully' 3D versions. :)

It's only when slow/stopped that they look sucky. The blur effect at speed is pretty good and IMO makes up for it.

I remember the GT3 demo that came on a magazine... The rims didn't blur on that version (shame they didn't keep the garage zoom that it had though). So ugly. :yuck:

^ garage zoom --- would love to see that, also hopefully they stick with brighter lighting in the garage as well... some of the rims you could barely see... often the car looked better in the bright confines of the car wash.

I forgot about that zoom in the demo. I think the photo mode will allow you to zoom all you want from most angles.

I once heard a rumour that there was gonna be angle/height adjustment in the view in the garage as well as Zoom and also Open and closing of the doors, boot bonnet e.t.c.
However I think this was 'JUST A RUMOUR', would be nice though.

^ i could see the opening of doors, zoom, angle, height, and convertible up/down being in, but doubt we'll see open hoods and trunks (bonnet + boot for the Brits)... hasn't been any focus on imaging engines, but we have seen some interior work, esp for the converts.

If you remember an article about GT4 that appeared in evo magazine, you could actually see them taking pictures of the engine bay.

I'd wager they don't. Know, that is.

I haven't even noticed the rims so far, I've been too busy looking at the shiny cars and shiny tracks. It also helps that I never messed with rims in any GT game, rims have never interested me in the slightest.

It's not a question of interest.

I think it is just something that outright grabs your attention, and that is enhanced exactly by the fact that the rest of the car and the environment look so polished and shiny.

Regarding the trees issue, it's nearly impossible to perfectly recreate trees (bushes, etc) on a virtual setting. Frankly, I don't know one game title in which trees looked ever so real, then again I don't pay them my undivided attention. For instance, there's a gleaming R34 tearing the wind in half in the pics posted in this thread, why should I be focusing on the foliage? I think it looks good enough anyway.
Rims? Whatever, it's only when the cars sit still that it becomes obvious that they're 2D.

And am I the only one that thinks that the Karussell doesn't have as much banking as the real life turn?
I don't know, I haven't seen much footage from the real Nurburgring lately, but last I saw it seemed the banking there was steeper than what PD makes it out to be. Still, could be my memory just messing with me.

That's just a minor thing, the real carousel is a little bit steeper/deeper but i don't mind.I wonder if any of the cars wil reach 400 kph on big staright at the back of the track.

I reckon if PD have modelled it then it'll be very very very similar to the real thing.

From the vids I've noticed that they've even modelled in the bits of tarmac that have been replaced recently!

Boy am i tired of hearing those bloddy "tree complaints". Dudes, think about it: This is a racing game not a farming simulation. You´d hardly notice any details on plants while crushing down a racetrack with +200ks.
Anyone who has been into lowpoly modeling, had his time where he encountered the "tree problem". Making a believable looking -> !!! low!!! <- poly tree is almost impossilbe, considering the fact, that the PS2 only has 4MB of Video RAM. There a alot of better places in which you would like to invest your system resources ...
