To me it just seems like the whole system is screwed up and in the end the average person gets boned.

Our system is very much about short-term catering to the average person. In the short-run, it's the people who are not average who get boned. In the long run, everyone does.

If they know it would get voted down then why even try to push the agenda in the first place?
Because, they have agendas and some of them think they know better than us. It is the sign of a statist when they think that the government should decide for the people, despite what people actually want. It is why things are done for your health that you would never chose on your own. If they say you shouldn't chose to go in a bar with smokers and you say you don't mind they just brush you off as an idiot who can't even hope to be as enlightened as they are.

It's obvious that people are going to be unhappy with it.
But that is because people are idiots and Congressmen know what is actually in their best interest.

Here is a video of Rep. Massa stating clearly he will vote against the interest of his constituency if he thinks it is best.

That pretty much sums it up. His opinion outweighs that of 80% of the people he represents.

Like I said it shouldn't be complicated but for whatever reason it ends up being way more complex then it needs to be.
It creates confusion. Democrats hate the disinformation because it holds them up, but trust me that if it never passes or it fails they will blame it on those that tried to stop them. Ted Kennedy supported HMO style health care plans when he was young and didn't have a water damaged car. Before he died he blamed them for all the problems in the system. If it is complicated you can never be wrong. The complication is on purpose.

And if politicians are always wrong then why should we even bother to vote for them? Any of them. Or vote for anything for that matter
Because they aren't always wrong or their views are the same as yours, even if you don't agree with the majority. It is why I support the candidates I do. Their record and their stated views are in line, or mostly, with my views.

To me it just seems like the whole system is screwed up and in the end the average person gets boned.
Yup. Our government was designed to work different than everyone else but over time we have tried to be like everyone else.

As Ben Franklin said, "We have our Republic, if we can keep it."

So I just got home, turned on the news, and I'm watching something about an ACORN trial in Las Vegas. Voter registration fraud, and that kind of stuff.

Is it too much to ask that the federal government polls people before they ask them to spend tens of millions of dollars to attract the attention of an international event that offers no guarantees to making money in the long run anyways? I don't pretend to know the politics of the city of Chicago (so I don't know if it is just a loud minority or not), but it sounds to me that they might not actually want to have the Olympics there.

Well, I'd venture a guess and say that its a very small group of people. As someone from the Mid-West, and someone who will literally be a stone's throw away from the Games if they come, its a HUGE deal not just for those who live in Chicago... But everyone else around it. Chicago is the hub for the area, and it being only a few hours away from some of the largest cities in the country, even if the Chicagoians aren't happy... People in St. Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit, Indianapolis, and all of the smaller metro areas around there will show up. In droves. Just to see single events.

The only thing I'd be worried about, honestly, is whether or not they'll be able to get the public transport system right for those of us who wouldn't dream of driving a car into town during the games. I'd want to take the train and stay with family to see it for as little money as possible.

Not yet.

Personally, I think it's a waste. The system itself, needs to be looked at before we decide to extend it another 3 hours.
To think in California, we need better test scores to get money for our schools...
I am still somehow worried about the whole centralization of the banking. I was watching the G20 riots in certain areas and I asked a friend about it. Though he states that we may need one currency for the entire world. I may be thinking of something else...

Is it actually true that Obama is going to make school longer?
No. It is not within the powers granted to him by the Constitution. Schools are a state level institution, not a federal one.

That said, he does want schools to go longer, so he can pull unconstitutional shenanigans, like Bush did, by adjusting Federal funding for schools based on whether they fit his idea of doing good or not. That still requires Congressional approval too though.

The problem with Obama's idea though is that he is basing it on the fact that current school schedules were designed around the farming season. He claims that we have moved beyond that lifestyle. While that may be true for Chicago and DC, two thirds of my family still farm, and of those that don't about half of those are just retired.

What he will end up doing is screwing up the very large number of farming communities still in this country. In turn the farmers will have to hire in help to replace their kids that are forced to go to school, and often it is only affordable in the form of migrant workers. His plan may actually inadvertently encourage illegal immigration.

Public school is a failure. Kids would be better served by its abolition.

Chicago loses Olympic Bid in first round of voting, and the reporters cannot believe it after President Obama made a personal pitch. He should have a great deal of international appeal and should push Chicago over the edge.

So, is this a sign that people are no longer enamored with Barack Obama?

Good thing he is not going to make school longer! Because if he did, then I would get RRREEEEEAAAALLLLYYYYY PISSED OFF!

Plus, one day some week ago, I saw a bumper sticker saying,
OurBigAssMistakeAmerica

That is a good sticker! My two heroes are the driver with that bumper sticker, and the guy that called Obama a LIAR at that one President Speech.

I'm curious, does a 13 year old really know that much about politics? I mean have you even had a government class yet? This is not a dig at you, just curious.

I just hope Madrid wins this. I don't want our Government spending all this money on Rio for the Olympics.

I have been watching FOX NEWS for years. FOX NEWS is a "REPUBLICAN" Station. My school is mostly a democratic school. Oh My God!..... THEY ARE ALL DEMOCRATS! SOOOOOOOO much complaining, so much negativity, so much pathetic people complaining! I mean literally everyone, school staff and students.

So come to conclusion, I am a huge Republican.

Hopefully it won't take you the rest of your life to figure out that there's almost no difference between the two major parties.

You probably should do some research out of Fox News before jumping on the Republican band wagon. Fox News is horribly biased, and like most media outlets only really giving you infotainment instead of actual information.

You realise also, that both the Democrats and Republicans are essentially the same in the long run. They both do a lot of complaining, both pretty much have the same views, and they both do a pretty awful job running the country (or a great job of running the country into the ground). Pretty much going with either party is just picking the lesser of two evils you tend to agree with, in the end though you are still putting some asshat in office that only cares about contribution to their campaign fund.

You said you were a Republican because you watch Fox News, is there any more to that or no? I mean there are always certain reasons why you pick a over b-z.

Wait until you get into college. That's when the fun starts. From personal experience, actually learning about things (on your own, with things called books) more often than not brings you to very different conclusions than what you had before. In most instances, I've seen that post-college, the kids become more Libertarian, or more Progressive. Sometimes, a little of both.

What's best about college is that kids tend to know what they're talking about. They'll even discuss issues respectively. Not something you tend to find in High School classrooms.

RE: The Olympics

Its a disappointment, that's for certain. However, I wouldn't categorize it as Obama losing status outside the US. It was always about money for the IOC, and they make odd decisions like this frequently. Remember when we were all convinced that Paris would get it for 2012? Yeah. The way I look at it, as someone who had been following the Chicago news for a while (being nearby), I hadn't been counting on it. In fact, it always seemed to be framed that we weren't going to get it, regardless of whether or not Obama would have been involved directly. Saying that it had been a two-horse race between Chicago and Rio, I felt, was cooked up by the Media to increase interest in Obama being over in Europe. That's my guess.

Weird, of course, that no one paid attention to him meeting McCristol to talk about America's future role in Afghanistan.

Oh boo-hoo. I am so tired of stupid Michelle Obama and her sob story for Chicago's politically-connected elite.

Whoa there. Afghanistan? What's going on in Afghanistan? Didn't you know that once the Obamessiah got into office all war everywhere ended and this McCristol guy is just trying to be a douche?

If we were still in war there would still be war protesters.

Seriously, I am not sure whether it is worse that when Bush was in office the wars were made out to be huge problems and death tolls were stated on the news nightly and everyone with concerns was making their voice heard in protests, or that now that Obama is in office the exact same wars are going on, the death tolls are still climbing, but the media downplays it and all but one protester has disappeared, showing that before they were using the names of the dead purely to denounce President Bush and/or promote their own political agenda.

So, is it worse to start a legally questionable war that many consider unjust, or is it worse to call it unjust and trot out the dead in order to benefit your own career?

In a twist that leads to me saying something I never thought I would ever say: In hindsight, I believe the only person I can maintain any respect for when it comes to the wars is Cindy Sheehan. She is the only public figure in all this to remain the same, no matter who is in office. You may not agree with her, you may find her approach to border on crazy, but she is obviously the only one that was honest in her reasoning.

I've been in the camp that has stuck with Afghanistan as a justified effort for a while, and I plan to remain there. I seem to recall that during the campaign Obama said he would get the American troops out of Iraq and re-invest in our efforts for Afghanistan. I agreed with him, and its part of the reason why he received my vote. I'm not sure if you're referencing Iraq or Afghanistan there towards the end, but I agree with your point, which I know we've mentioned before.

Its a damn shame that Afghanistan was forgotten about so quickly, especially when we've squandered so much that we had there for some time. Blame Iraq for the distraction, poor leadership in NATO, etc. We blew it, we have to fix it, or its going to bite us in the ass again.

EDIT:

By "we" I mean NATO

I heard about that. As soon as he set foot on Chicago when getting off his plane, the Chicago olympics were no more dream existing. Now it will be for everywhere he sets foot on, something gets canceled. haha! He better not cancel Boston Legal!!!!!!!

I've always had respect for Cindy. She is a true war protester, for all the right reasons.

Um...what?

About the olympics being canceled for Chicago. And the hilarious show with Shatner, called "Boston Legal".
