I desperately want to find better pictures of this car.

Regal20GSX.jpg
I honestly think that kinda works and I kinda like the idea of using that gen of a Regal to make a tribute to the GSX with. The only thing that would make more sense to me is if it was a Grand National.

It could easily be a T-Type. I like it with the chrome bumper, since the GSX had a chrome bumper--it makes for a better tribute. The only GN that got a chrome bumper was the '82 and there are few enough of those that they ought not be used for something like this.

A nice change from the way I usually see these modified, which is lowered excessively on big wheels with rubberbands.

Fingers crossed there's something shaky and shouty under the cowl hood that'll roast those steamrollers.

I can understand your opinion on this, but couldn't you just have a chrome bumper place on a GN on another year?

Yeah, but what's the point? My understanding is that from 1984 on (there was no GN in 1983 and I've already spoken of 1982s, a silver and charcoal example of which I posted on the most recent page of the American cars thread), the GN was a cosmetic package on turbo Regals. There was no performance advantage over a T-Type (they were likely to be heavier, even) until the GNX came around.

It was? I was under the full assumption this entire time that the GN was a whole trim up over the T-Type and was more powerful. People striving for the things and the T-Type was just the more common, less special model.

T-Types were marginally more common than Grand Nationals in the early years both turbo cars were built but GNs flipped them quickly, ending up at about 3x for 1986, the final year for T-Types. In 1987, there were 20k GNs, 1547 Turbo Ts (WE4) and 547 GNXs. There were far fewer turbo base Regals and turbo Limiteds combined than GNs in 1987--nearly 4 GNs for each of the formers combined! People really dug those black beauties.

Edit: These are the turbo cars. There were far more n/a 6 and 8 cars built. Purely statistically, that GSX tribute is likely not a turbo car (though it has the power dome hood), but it still could be a T-Type.

Edit: I think all RPO WE4s were black, having been based on the GN. They were lighter and more powerful than the GN, but not quite comparable to the GNX and they didn't go to ASC/McLaren like the latter did. They bridged the gap. ... Nope. Turbo T was an appearance package and wasn't exclusively black.

The modification itself may not be odd, but the car it’s performed on certainly is. You don’t usually see an early 00s Pontiac getting stanced like this.

Well I mean Lotuses are powered by Toyota engines nowadays, so...
I thought about that, but the engine choice isn't what's supposed to be odd here. I just think this is the most appropriate thread for engine swaps.

Well maybe it's time for an engine swaps thread!

El Caminos with the late G-body Monte SS front clip are common enough. Less common are the late A-body Monte front ends and doors. I've only seen a couple that include the Monte quarters.

Just needs a different set of wheels.

That's absolutely cursed and I hate it so much. Under no circumstances should an El Camino ever have curves. None.

This is a local project I see semi-regularly. Absolutely nuts as a concept but I'll dish out points for originality.

Caught it last year before they finished the front bodywork and removed the awful murdered out tail lights.

Maybe this example is legitimately original, as one of those to begin the trend, but it feels like this sort of thing has spiraled and is verging on cliché. It all seems like it's a part of the "break the internet" mindset and even having coal rolling capability is a part of that.

I love that someone looked at the engine and went "Just plop it in the back".
