Some actual gameplay footage is dropping Saturday, apparently.
I'm pretty excited to see Hoenn in 3D. Even though a lot of people gripe about how water-heavy it is, Kalos felt a little bit too land-based. Plus, as annoying as a water-heavy region is, there's no doubt it's gonna be gorgeous. And who knows, maybe they'll lower the random encounter rate in the water to make it less frustrating?
I wonder what they're gonna add to the game, aside from everything just having some of that modern polish to it. Fire Red/Leaf Green had the Sevii Islands, HeartGold/SoulSilver had... well, Kanto just like in the originals, but filled to the brim with legendary pokemon to catch.
Hoenn doesn't seem big enough for them to do what they did with HG/SS and just cram in every legendary Pokemon ever made, so they'll have to do something different.
Not likely enough for me to bet on it, but I think the only logical thing they could do for this remake to go the extra mile like they did with the 1st and 2nd gen remakes is to add the Orange Islands. They're just off to the southeast of Hoenn's islands, fit in reasonably well with Hoenn in terms of style, and haven't yet been seen in a Pokemon game. Makes enough sense to me, and I'd definitely love to have 'em since there's no chance they'll add in a full 2nd region like Johto or Kanto... unless they make it so that we can travel to Kalos, since that region's already been done in 3D. Worst case scenario, it's just Ruby/Sapphire remade without a lot of extra fluff that they usually add to these remakes, which is still awesome and is understandable since making a 3D game takes more work. But I can't help but hope that they surprise us with some extra bits of goodness.
