So if we're spending time on this website, we obviously play video games right?

Recently I resurrected an old favorite of mine... Final Fantasy. The original for the NES. I'm having a blast playing through it again. It's still a fun challenging game after all these years.

Not too long ago I was playing Zork, which is from waaaaay back there. I didn't get very far with Zork though.

What old video games do you like to dust off now and then?

F-zero
Super Mario Cart
the Original Zelda
Rad Racer
Zork - I remember that :D
7th Guest
to name a few :D

The Prince of Persia

Desert Strike for the Sega Mega Drive.
And V-Racing, the first '3D' racing game I seem to remeber. It first came out for £60 over here when an average game cost about £30. That was sooo ahead of its time.

anyone still play Hard Drvin' in the Arcade ??? I loved that game, the stunt course was the shiz of all niz :D

I went through FF1 last year on a Nes Emulator, back to first love in rpgs... still a lot of fun indeed! I must admit I increased the speed a bit on some part of the games, don't have as much time to do this as I had back in high school...

FFII was my favorite though... but SNES Emulator that I've tried are full of glitches and bugs, maybe someday I'll get an used console... I'd like to try again a few oldies...

- Rocknroll Racing
- Top Gear (first one)
- Zelda, a Link to the past
- Contra III
- Super Mario Kart
- F Zero
- of course, FFIII (awesome music and graphics for the time)
- Secret of Mana
- Mario world was good too... was able to complete the game in an afternoon.
- Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat
- Out of this world (Another World)

:D Yep! worst tires than sims on GT but amazing stunts... I had a very smilar game on PC where you could build your own giant track... something like Stunt Race or Stunt Racing...

I wish I had one of those now. You know, it had an autocross simulator in it?

Actually, I guess that was Race Drivin', which had the original Hard Drivin' tracks, an autocross course, and a Super Stunt and Super Speed course.

AND the best force feedback in any game I've ever played. Wayyy ahead of its time. I pumped a lot of quarters through that one.

In high school we used to ditch and go play ZAXXON. I ran across a Japanese walkthrough website with screenshots from that one the other day, and man di that take me back 20+ years...

-Road Rash
-Sonic
-Battletoads and Double Dragons
-Bubble Bobble
-DigDug
-Excitebike
-Stunt Race FX
-NBA Jam
-I got more....(Trust me)

Sensible World Of Soccer '95/'96. Best game ever. HARD.

-Super Tecmo Bowl
-Legend of Zelda
-Dragon Warrior
-Lock n' Chase
-Montezuma's Revenge
-Jordan vs Brid
-Double Dribble
-Arkinoid
-Metroid
-Contra
-Kung Fu
-Blades of Steel
-Mike Tysons Punch Out
...and a whole bunch that have already been named :D

TECMO SUPER BOWL!!! YES!

I remember battletoads and double dragon.

Used to play double dragon and spy hunter in the arcade. The original street fighter as well.

We have 3 old arcade machines in our storage. They are a superman game, RoboCop, and a motorcycle game. Bought them all for $300 a peice about 8 or 9 years ago from the local arcade when it was going out of business.

The Contra games for the original nes will be my favorite of all time. Take no names, kick all ass, and look like Rambo while doing it. Nothing compares for me.

  • My fave NES games:
  • Super Mario Series - how could you not love them? I watched that one guy playing Mario 3 in 11 minutes, I tried doing it but to no avail keke... I was to rusty. Still at it's time these were the best platformers on any console at the time.
  • Battletoads - Pimple, Zitz, and Rash. These guys were the comic relief of platformers. Even the bosses were goofy. And this is on a system that had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lol..
  • R.C. Pro AM - Very addicting racing games, the birds eye 3/4 view got me woosy after too much racing though. Not to hard but difficult enough because almost each corner was blind (because of the view)
  • River City Ransom - Probably my fave NES game. I still play this Beat 'em up to this date. You play as Alex or Ryan trying to save Ryan's GF from some teenaged gangs (she was kidnapped). Simple enough story eh? Who cares as long as you're kicking ass hehe.. This game is also a great 2P simultaneous Beat 'em up. I hated it when I played with my friend Deepak though. He'd always kick my ass (on purpose) hehe..
  • Super Dodgeball - This game is like a sport/beat 'em up game all in one. If you've never played Dodgeball in school gymnasiums then I pity you. This video game takes Dodgeball to the extreme. You play in a tournament that spans the globe, and you can do sweet special move with the volleyball as you toast you opposition, not by hitting them below the waist, but by knocking them out ;).
  • Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link - Hey it's Zelda, and Link. 'Nuff said. This game made the first Zelda look like pre-school. You play as a teenaged link, and the visuals for the time were amazing. Very addicting RPGish game.
  • Balloon Fight - A classic for the ages. Simply you just float around on 2 balloons vs other opponents and you have to land on your opponents balloons and pop them. After they lose there balloons they fall to the ground and you have to knock them out by running into them. Sounds simple enough. IT's not though when you got lightning bolts shooting charges at you about 8 guys going after you and more! Fun game!
  • Double Dragon 2 and 3 - Very fun beat 'em ups.
  • Mega Man series - The little man in blue was right next to Super Mario series as my favourite platformers. You can obtain very cool weapons from Dr. Wilys robotic henchman after defeating them and use their weapons against other robot baddies each having debilitating weaknesse's to each specific robot. Finding all this out and having a cool companion (Rush the robotic dog), and then having a showdown with Dr. Wily himself for 7 games got tedious but each game was still fresh enough, to still be a classic gem.
  • Rad Racer - Believe it or not before Final Fantasy made them huge Square made a racing game. This game was Rad Racer. You could race as a Ferrari or F-1 vs. other sweet cars and race around the globe. Kick ass game, for it's time I was so happy when I finished it, but my thumbs weren't that damn NES controller and those tight corners don't mix well.
  • Castlevania - The first one is my fave. Simon's Quest and the third one didn't really get me interested enough. Maybe it's because I had played them SO much later then the first one. Still my first experience with this game was a terrifying one. Very creepy game for a youngster hehehe... These games have evolved into one of the most successful game dynasty to date.
  • Ducktales - I loved this Disney game. Was a big fan of this cartoon, what seems like ages ago and the graphics and sound were astonishingly similar to the cartoon at that time. Also the gameplay was fantastic. You play as Mcscrooge trying to recovery his stolen vault hehehe..

Whoa, that is awesome. I owned every single one of those games and all the great memories are flooding back to me. Spot on synopsis for each game.

Good list. 👍

I'm sorry, but does anyone even remember the Amiga? You all seem to be naming NES/Sega games.

My Amiga A1200 (33MHz processor - called Fat Agnes - with 10Mb RAM. Hard!) still gets usage, mainly for SWOS because it's such a kick-ass game. Back in the days when computers were good and not plastic hell boxes.

Unfortuneatly no I don't I started getting into video games hardcore in 1986 with my NES. Most consoles older than the NES are before my time, but I do have fond recollections of playing whacky Coleco Vision games with my Uncle (whose old school).

Oh yes the Amiga. I was in love with mine in the 90's.

I sometimes dl adf's from warlocks demo archive to reminisce those days. (Ok, winuae has some sound problems but still it's great fun)

[edit]it had a copper and a blitter too. What great names on graphic circuits.

The Amiga isn't older than the NES. In fact the Amiga 1200 is considerably newer - first launched in 1992.

I was 15. But it was my second Amiga after my A500 in 1989.

Prior to that I'd owned a ZX Spectrum 48k (rubber keyboard), ZX Spectrum 48k (plastic keyboard) and ZX Spectrum 128k.

Well, if we're talking computer games, not arcade/console numbers, then my all time favorite has to be Crystal Quest on my ol' Mac II in 1989 or so. Insane arcade action with goofy monsters and sounds. My wife and I played that for hours and hours...

ok, here are two old school games . . .
Captain Goodnight and Montezuma's revenge . . .

Pfft.

Skool Daze/Back 2 Skool
Chaos/Lords Of Chaos
Starquake
Jetpac/Jetpac II
Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy
Automania/Pyjamarama/Everyone's a Wally

Now THAT'S Old Skool.

Not an arcade game, but who here played Planetfall/Stationfall? Not to mention THHGTTG?

Text-parser classics.
