I'll be in Las Vegas next month funnily enough. As of now I have no other holidays planned so any month in 2015 will suit me. As long as it doesn't coincide with the Le Mans 24 hour bike race I'm good really as there's a chance I might go.

I've been thinking about this record and the ambiguity of the rules an how others have managed it without actually doing a full, non-stop race. What it has lead me to think is that it might be worth me speaking to Guinness about creating an entirely new record featuring non-stop endurance racing rather than trying to break this current record which isn't actually what it says on the tin.

If I'm able to speak with them about attempting the longest continuous race using video games then there might be a way to restructure this whole event so that we can do it LeMans style with several drivers per team.

I'm still formulating the best way to go about approaching them over this. If anyone has any suggestions then let me know.

That sounds good so that we can do a reasonable length race but with naps in between.

If I'm honest I'd prefer the newer idea but I'm still in for both regardless of length.

I presume that someone from Guinness world records was present when completed before, but there should be a report somewhere (news? even local) about it...

There are reports in the media on several of the recently broken records but I'm not sure how much truth can be gathered from an online report from a random website.

The one set in Austraila before said they played all different consoles, so how could that possibly be the type of record that will be similar to what we're attempting.

I will have to talk to GWR again and point out the discrepancies and ambiguities with the guidelines that they've set out to complete attempt because it seems the guidelines I have were not the same as those given to me.

Seems like we could just leave GT5 on B-Spec and break the record, it does seem like their attempt was bare minimum to fulfill requirement and gain a WR...

OK, from what the media has published:

Played in the hall of the teenagers' high school, at least one of the four were required to be manning the controls at any one time, and only after every hour could they take a 10 minute break.

Harry, who spent one of the longest periods in front of the video game, lasted a 15-hour stretch in which he saved up is hourly-rest increments for a midnight nap.

Those are both from an attempt that failed to show on the GWR site. The latest record is up there now but I'm haivng trouble getting any information on how they did it.

Supposedly it's one ten-minute break every two hours, but that article said one every hour so I'm not sure.

Yes, it's every hour. But on one of the attempts the driver raced for 15 hours straight and then used his accumulated 10minute breaks all together. I fail to see how on earth that constitutes a 'marathon' as the record title suggests.

Also, the latest holders were using Grid, if I remember correctly, according to one article. Somebody in this thread said it wasn't even possible to do one continuous 'marathon' race on that title so they clearly didn't run just one race.

This weekend I will (providing I have time) write to Guinness and try to find out more about what these other parties did and whether we can submit our event under a new title making it more fitting to a continuous race.

Hi there.

This is such a good idea, it's driving me insane, it's a really nice thing to do.

@W3HS I'm going to PM you mate, the idea I've had hasn't been taken on as a job by anyone.

Sorry for the double post, but I've had conformation from @W3HS and i'll be setting up various Social groups to do raise awareness for this and if possible i'm going to do a livestream event (If I don't drive). If anyone is interested in giving me a hand, Can you drop me a message please, Thanks 👍

When all the groups have been set up, i'll post links here. I'll probably be contacting most of the drivers too, so I can put some footage etc together.

Great to have you on board, mate. 👍

I've been lazy and also busy with some other side projects recently but gradually bit by bit things will come together. Still a long way to go yet!

Just waiting on a response now to whether were are looking at a completely original world record or not for attempting one single, continuous race rather than just a video game marathon.

Wish us luck!

So if we do have to run one long race, would we rather have it at the Nurburgring or at this new Curcuito de la Sierra course? The new one's definitely slower, that's for sure.

EDIT: Ran a lap with a completely unchanged MX-5 TC earlier. Two minor spins saw me get a 10:25 lap. Still too fast for our 36-hour adventure.

There is no rest period at the new track though. At least nurburgring has the long straight.

You'd be mentally and physically exhausted by the end of Sierra.

Also have you heard back yet Shem?

I haven't, no, which makes me think Guinness are less organised than I thought before.

A few weeks back I shot them a message asking about the previous records and whether our attempt classifies a different record because it would be a non-stop race from start to finish unlike the current holders who have done numerous races.

Their response was that they'll look into it and get back to me with some answers but I'm still waiting. Time to get back on their case I guess.

What bothers me is that as professional as Guinness are they aren't as exact as people assume and because they obviously aren't knowledgeable about sim racing I'm not sure they fully understand the point I was trying to make regarding the one continuos race aspect of our attempt.

I'll drop them a line this weekend and hope to get some answers for you soon.
