I'm currently running on about 4 hours of disjointed sleep per night, and have been for weeks... it's half the reason I put my name down as a driver, I'm becoming quite adept at operating in a sleep deprived state!

I suppose I should get involved with this too. I can only offer a provisional "I will attend" as it does depend on date & location of course but I'm happy enough to be your healthcare professional on site/on call (I used to be able to do 36 hours awake, not these days  ). I imagine looking after blisters to hands and redbull overdose shouldn't be too much of a challenge ;)

I tried the pods at Mercedes Benz world today. I was absolutely awful as I have never used a wheel before but that could be solved with an hour of practice.
The pods are quite comfortable but the peddles may be an issue. If we don't need clutch then the fastest way to drive is left foot braking and due to the position of the pedal that is quite uncomfortable.

I didn't ask if we could use the venue as I had no clue who to ask and the salespeople weren't particularly interested in talking to someone they couldn't sell to.

Were they Logitech or Thrustmaster?

It's taken me 8 months so far to adjust to a wheel from a driving technique point of view, and I'm still not as fast as I was with a controller, but in terms of adapting to the posture etc. it shouldn't take long. I've had a few auto's in real-life, and if I'm ever in a situation where I don't have a clutch, I left-foot break without even noticing.

Thrustmaster I think. The game was GT5 not 6 though as it is an exhibition based on the challenge they did there with Coulthard at the top gear track.

Gaydon have got back to me and it's logistically unfeasible for them. Pity - it's a good and very appropriate place.

But I've enquired at somewhere nearby and just down the M40. More to come...

Shame about Gaydon. Hopefully we'll have more luck somewhere else.

I've still not heard back from the Ace Cafe so I'll assume they aren't interested despite previous comments in this thread.

I've been a bit lazy the last few week to be honest, but I've spent a lot of time thinking of locations and not really doing anything about it.

I'll shoot off some emails during the next week and hope I can get some interest. Will be back to you all with any info once I've got it.
👍

Can I get some thoughts on when this thing should be held? Let me put down a few months and you guys decide which you prefer.

August
September
October
November

Go ahead, pick one.

No plans that far in advance yet!

Is Lets Race still an option for location? Not heard anything about it, didn't know if getting some options available or it's been ruled out.

I'm currently trying to set something up with the help of Famine at Daytona circuits which have several UK sites with space to use.

For me August or September (as long as it isn't last week of September) would be best as then I don't have to risk missing uni lectures to do this.

As I was reading over this topic, I couldn't help but think how appropriate SEMA and the GT Awards would be for something like this, and finding a 24-hour venue in Las Vegas certainly wouldn't be a problem. Obviously, it's on the wrong continent for many of you (a minor detail :dopey:), but you can find a lot of cheap hotel rooms in Vegas and the heightened exposure for the event might make it considerably easier to attract sponsors.

I wouldn't mind but there is no way on this earth I can get the money for a flight to Vegas.

See what @W3HS thinks.

Yeah, unless it's in the UK somewhere I won't be able to race. I'll be both moving out and having a baby at the end of this year. Money will be too tight to fly to America.

Definitely appropriate, though I agree that costs would be too much for me to attend! similarly though I bet there are a lot of members in America that would now be able to go.

Got this email this morning from Guinness:

The record you have applied for is: ’Longest videogame marathon on a racing game’.

The current record (current as at the date of this letter) is: The longest marathon playing a racing game lasted 36 hours, and was achieved by Simon Platt and Ralph Cooper (both UK), who played Grid 2 (Codemasters, 2013) at Codemasters Campus, Southam, Warwickshire, UK from 30 May 2013 to 31 May 2013.

:grumpy:

Is there any other option?

I want to read their report and see how how they were doing it.

On grid? That would drive me insane. Plus I don't remember there being a setting to run very long races.

The record doesn't mention the race didn't end, maybe they just played the game solid for 36 hours rather than one game (race) for 36 hours.

Which is why we would want to find out the details of the previous record. Not that it changes what we do, I think all agreed we race for as many hours in a straight race.

I'd like to know how they did it and whether they did it the same way as the Australian guys who did it before. I get the feeling that they must have done several consecutive races rather than one long stint.

I do think now thy when we do it there's a chance that if we race nonstop and build up the rest time we can put the car, have a snooze and then get back on it once refreshed.

It's not so much the breaks I'm thinking about, but if it doesn't have to be continuous then at least if gives us more track and car options.
