I'm hoping we end up with a venue near to a train station or close enough. Otherwise I'm stumped for getting there so far.

I'll do my best to join in here, but I'm a bit hungover so excuse my mistakes.

@beeblebrox(some numbers), I'll stick you down as a driver if you want. Can't do it til next week because I'm on my phone until Tuesday.

Spa seems like the ideal candidate, I'm glad you guys are doing some testing, it will definitely help to make the event less boring if we've got a good car and track combo.

Practice all you like, guys. While I don't have a PS3 in Thailand I'm looking to find a local who will let me do some time on theirs in exchange for some beer money or English lessons.

Because this thing is going to be big I really need to be in the UK at least a few months before it kicks off so I'll be hoping to do that if I can, finance and wife's visa permitting (yes, I'm bringing the family).

It is advisable that anyone with the chance sits through a 24 hour race in game to see if they have the mettle for this. I haven't done it myself for many a year and I'm now a fair bit older.

If I'm racing (which I hope I can, but I know I'll be majorly busy throughout the actual race) I'd like any wild shade of neon for the MX-5, except pink or pink. Neon orange would be pretty cool. Number wise I'll take 33.

I'm going to go with a long shot and email Sony to ask if it's possible to get a support guy in on this to help assure there are no major issues come race day and hopefully get some moral support from them, which is highly unlikely.

How amazing would it be if Kaz happened to hear of this and decided to drive with us, or even just came to hang out? I think I'd pee myself with excitement!

Thaaaaaat might present a problem then. I'll look into it more when I get home from work.

In short: We've got issues.

To elaborate: In an online lobby, you have two options for your race, depending on how you set it up: laps or time. Maximum time is 24 hours, maximum laps is 200. In order to go 36 hours then, we need to set the lobby up to laps and pick a track/car combo that will allow us to run no faster than an average of 10:48 laps. That pretty much restricts us to one of the Nurburgring endurance layouts, probably with rain, in a slower car (I haven't ran a lap with the MX-5 TC yet to see how long a lap would take).

So, Fiat 500s it is then!

But seriously, that could be an issue. What to do, what to do...

In the UK, the company you want to speak to re. stuff like that is a company called Denham Technical Services. They are the folk who handle all of the tech stuff/logistics for any UK-based Gran Turismo event, and I'm pretty sure they also did the same on the GT6 launch in Spain. I'm at the GT academy UK finals in a couple of days so I can try to have a word with them then.

Also, about the limits of the lobbies, there *may* be a solution to that. When I've worked with Playstation at events such as Goodwood, they are able to bring special versions of the game running a special code allowing certain settings, for example limiting the game to only the Goodwood circuit, plus a specific choice of cars. If - and don't get too excited because this is verrry ambitious - we manage to get Polyphony directly involved then they may be able to run the game in a certain way to get around the time/lap restrictions. I do happen to have contact details for a guy who is relatively senior in PD Europe, so depending on how big this gets he may be worth a try..

With a proper events team on board I could see things getting sorted out much quicker.

Do you think they'll be up for being involved to some extent, even if it's just for advice?

Even if they aren't involved officially, I'm sure one or two of them would be happy to answer questions. Famine said before he is going to speak to HPS Jardine in a couple of days, and if they're on board, given they use Denham Tech for all their events, they will be too.

Did a 9:50 first lap out, in the Roadster TC, with a spin, nobody to draft on the straights, and a whilst reading a conversation on my phone... okay it was in the dry and daylight, but I don't think we'd pull it out to an average of 10:48 without doing it on comforts!

edit: Unsurprisingly the Suzuki Cappuccino (EA21R) Racecar is slow enough for the job.. roughly 11:30 (ish) per lap. Kinda fun too on the twisty bits...

If it comes to the worst though the Suzuki Cappuccino race car is actually pretty fun to drive.

Yeah you can really hammer it on the tight sections, but on the straights, it's engine revs at exactly the right frequency to ultrasonically drill a hole though your mind

That is what music is for. Unless someone is adamant about manual shifting that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm hopeless at shifting unless I can hear the engine
So put it on auto. After 30 hours as well I am guessing people will get to the point where any thing they can save doing and make the computer do instead will be a relief.

I'm all for full immersion on race day. I'm aiming for no aids, no music, manual gearbox and I might even wear a helmet! :D

Let's not worry just yet about the restrictions of the game in regards to laps/time. I've still yet to ask Guinness if a track change can be done if the limit doesn't allow 36 hours of constant racing.

Also, you guys will be bringing gloves, and a pillow, right? All that time will murder on the hands and rump.

Don't beast yourself too much Shem, remember even 10 hours straight is more than the world asks of any driver.

I don't have gloves but I might get some for the event. Pillows, definitely. And I'll probably go auto because after 30 hours I'm going to be feeling lazy. Though I suppose if I go manual I can always stick it in top gear and get a quick break from the noise.

Do we all have to be in the same car? A limit of 425 PP and SH tires should be enough to run around 11:00 laps of the Nurb 24h layout and it'd give the spectators some variety. As for gloves, my motorcycle ones should work well enough.

Yeah, for me it will help to keep me awake knowing that I have to shift for corners.

@the book, it's not viral for us all to drive the same car but it would make for better racing and therefore add some enjoyment to something which otherwise could get boring after some time.

I know it's mentioned in the OP Shemster, but if someone were curious about setting up a North American counterpart, what sort of things would that entail? I ask mostly out of curiosity, in case I find out I won't even be across the pond for this :P

They would have to conform to the rules of the attempt; collect their evidence and whatever. Obviously setting it up would be entirely done without the help of the UK version since that takes so much effort as it is. I could definitely offer advice though if you wanted to try.

DS3s and 15" CRT TVs :mischievous:

Nah, I'm joking. I really hope you end up with something nice. Just wanted to say that it's a fantastic feat that you are attempting. All I can realisticly offer, though, is moral support from across the the continent. 👍
