To clear a few things up:
Switching tracks means the race isn't continuous, it's then a series and not a single race. One track throughout.
Which track? Well, it needs to be an endurance track. Le Mans would be the ideal candidate because it isn't too narrow, nowhere is too far from the pits as is the case with Nurbergring, and it has time change (and weather) which I think is important in such a long event. Spa and Silverstone could also be options but I feel Silverstone is a little short for an endurance race.
For me I'm keen to have the weather, time change, damage, tyre wear and fuel consumption to as realistic a setting as possible but that's all up for debate of course.
The car? Should we run a one-spec? It would hand itself to better racing and, again, add some spice to the competition. If we're racing for a prize then having the a same-make race would be fairer for all. If not then cars of a fairly equal performance level would do.
I think most of you will agree that anything above a touring car will be murder on the wheel for all that time. The MX-5 TC would be ideal but this is also something we can all come to a decision on. If you all really want to see craziness I'll do it in a Fiat 500, but the charity fundraising would have to get steam-rolling before I even attempt to drive myself insane doing that.
In reality there is probably a large choice of vehicles that could be used but we're so far from the event now that all we can do is get an idea for ourselves and find something to fit the preferences; fun, not too punishing, enough power not to be dull, good tyre wear and above all no vacuum cleaner sound.
So looking at what we have here can we get some votes on the track & car?
Post below your preferred combination (obviously the car and track will be finalised closer to the actual race).
I'm going to vote MX-5s at Le Mans. (or Fiat 500s at Nurburgring if anyone is feeling insane.
