Online Racing

Just had some racing online for the first time in a while and had a few good clean races which was nice. But on the third I was battling for the lead and after the first lap the driver who i was battling with started using shortcuts i've never ever seen in my life which gave him the edge till the last lap when he made a mistake.

Is this online at the moment? people using shortcuts or is this a one off? because if it is thats uter poo to be honest.

Have u guys come across this at all?

Some people just can not stand to loose! It does happen from time to time. I just know in my head that if someone has to cheat to get ahead of me then I already got to them and had them beat WITHOUT CHEATING! don't let it get ya down man, you are obviously better than him!

let me guess, fuji??? I also had an experience like that the other day. French guy waited until last lap, took the infamous shortcut at the cicane and won the race.
For some reason the people doing it tend to be either spanish or french, at least when i race

I have seen it many times. And sometimes from drivers that are good enough to win without cheating. Monday I raced somebody a few times who's a member here and he cut the grass every lap. I wasn't flying my gtp tag so I guess he didn't realize he was racing a gtp member.

Because the spanish and french are massive cheats and can't stand to loose, they'll cheat when they know they have been beat by a better driver but, really there the losers.

Just look at Alonso and crashgate, of course he knew nothing about it! Yeah right, bet it was his idea!

now don't you think this is an insult to the Spanish and French drivers that are aren't "cheats"? Suppose i was to say that the English are all "cheats" based on the few unpleasant experiences that i've had with some of them, would you be happy with that?

Yeah I agree. If they short cut or ram you off, you just know that they cant beat you fairly

It would be nice if that was the case 100% of the time, but its not.
I have seen driver's who are fast and could do well in a race without cheating, but they cheat anyway.

Well, it leaves you (the better driver) with an empty victory. Come on let's face it, the victor gets the points and bigger money and although you raced clean and were the better driver, it feels like punishment not placing a righteous first.
Some times the online system messes with me when dirty drivers draft, pass and drive into my line so there's unavoidable contact and guess who gets a penalty?The system is predictive and people exploit it. It's too bad.

The penalty system is a hard system to make totally fair, because of where the 'penalty triggers' are placed on the Vehicle models.
Hopefully for GT5 PD has implemented a system that deals with cheats a little more intelligently.

I'm glad to be acknowledged that I'm not crazy. I've been chatting with friends about this issue and it seems like only I am running into jerks online. And as far as cutting over grass, yes, it's cheap. Wouldn't it be easier to catch people cheating with that method than to model those "penalty triggers" onto the cars model?
Regardless, as far as car contact is concerned, there are different rules for different race series regarding contact. I imagine it will be awhile before those rules are intelligently integrated into the game.

I think we just have to bare in mind that this is prologue, and GT5 will have a whole new online mode. Im sure they have analysed the good and the bad points about the current online system for the full game. Its far from perfect but im sure they can overhaul it well.

Im very new to online racing so am enjoying the racing when its good, but not bothering to get annoyed when there is a cheater, cause sooner or later you end up racing some guy who you will have a really clean, good race with, and who will pm you when he accidentally knocks againt you! Which is nice.

Shockingly narrow minded, xenophobic and stereotyped reponse. I have seen some quite awful driving (cheating) from many countries including, and I've seen this a lot, the UK.

Please read the AUP with regards to usage of correct grammar and shortening of words before insulting the entire population of 2 countries.

We should be careful with this whole nationality thing! I've picked it up in many threads and everytime I think it's shocking! I've been punted by various nationalities, I've had fantastic clean battles with the same various nationalities... you always find the random idiot everywhere, luckily usually more likemindeds at the same time!

And remember: the poor souls getting some weird pleasure out of ramming and shortcutting are sure not going to be on this forum. So all the aggravation caused doesn't even hit the right people. It just gives GTP a bad taste and wastes serverspace.

Enough said, and, just in case anyone has a different view: I'm speaking for myself here.

Of course there are cheats in all countries to think otherwise would be very silly indeed. I Just spotted a chance to have a dig at Alonso and The Flav who are obviously massive cheats. My apologies for this and not having a degree in English and for shortening words! oh dear!

Although Flavio is Italian, guess there all cheats too! (Joke)

I must also say I have seen worse grammar from the French and Spaniards!

Yep, that drives me mad too. I have a new strategy. If im in a 2-3 car race with cheaters I just park up and wait for the race to end. I still get my prize but I dont have to deal with the wombles. The Bravia PAP function is getting more and more use!
