Only one prob...so far.

I started Drifting in GT3 about 3 weeks ago, and I think I'm getting pretty good. (RX-7 RZ, S15, Altezza) But I do not have a wheel, I can't do a nice "smooth drift". I am constantly fighting to keep the car sideways, resulting in my drifts being shaky, Any suggestions? Maybe I will get better with time, I wish I knew how you guys upload vids so I could show ya. Thanks.

hmmm... i dont have a wheel, and i seem to drift fine w/ my 180sx.
just practice more i guess... practice makes perfect. and ur entrance also helps. oh yeah! and find YOUR technique

The NSX and other MR cars are very smooth in drifting because of their weight distribution. The FRs swing out their rear end easier because there's not a lot of weight in the back compared to the front, especially when wheel spin occurs. When you try to drift, make a mark on the screen on how much angle you want. For me, I usually want to see half of the course itself when I drift and the other half of the screen is just looking into the wall. I'll post a picture about it later, but if you understand what I mean, then go ahead and try it :)

I bought a wheel, but I still use a controller. Yes, the controller has a disadvantage, but I look at it as an added challenge. The payoffs of buying a wheel are being able to drift with smooth countersteer and better control over long drifts. The drawbacks to a wheel are its bulkiness and adaption time. I use my controller because its smaller and i can use it for other things too. I found that in order to be able to compete with wheel users, I hafta use my controller as if it is a wheel. That means if I want to drift seriously, I can't tap the gas, brakes, or steering. I hafta learn how to depress the gas and brake buttons to a certain level and hold the analog stick in a certain position. This is the only way to have smooth long drifts on soft corners without jumpy countersteer and loss of control.

So if you want to just be able to drift, then get used to tapping the steering and buttons. If you want to drift with the best of them, then get used to moderating your use of the controller.

The brake button isn't analog on the controller...

P.S. - I never use controller. Before I had a wheel I didn't even attempt to drift... I'm not saying it's wrong I'm just saying I think it's a handicap. Like drifting with TCS. Why do it? The controller doesn't have any benefits, it only limits you.

I had an analog controller for a long long time. I tried to drift alot, but they came out scratchy, so I picked up the wheel and it's hard to get used to, but once you do, you won't drift without it..I'd just suggest getting a wheel. Its well worthy its pricetag..

well ive drifted on a d-pad al;l my life and i can hold a smooth drift....are u taping the gas and brake u know to amke it smoother and stuff

the d-pad?! you don't use the analog sticks? d-pad isn't precise enuf control for me.

I was up late last night playing and I will be tonight, one day I'll get it down... I have time. I'll be at Nopi with my car in a couple weeks, if you see a silver NSX talk to me, trade some drifter moments.

I use both analog sticks when I am drifing, I find that it gives me much more precise throttle control than using the buttons.
