The Online Racing Championship Association (ORCA) presents the DTM Spec German Grand Prix! This is going to be a special two-off event featuring "Touring Cars" at the world-famous Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit, loosely inspired by the DTM German Touring Car series. There are no points or weekly schedules to be followed, but we will do a couple practice sessions each week leading up to the events so everyone can find their favorite car and get acquainted with the car/track combination.

Unlike previous series run under the ORCA banner this event will feature 6 different cars to choose from and you will not have to commit to any of them (meaning you could run an Audi for the Tuesday race and a Vauxhall for the Saturday race). Participants are encouraged to spend some time with all the cars to find which fits their driving style the best. I do hope to have a diverse starting grid so if everyone selects the same one or two cars I reserve the right to ask some people to change their selection (so have a second-favorite car in mind). We don't need to have all 6 cars represented on the grid but hopefully we can get a variety of 3-4 different models.

THE CARS

ALL CARS WILL BE RUN WITH "TUNING PROHIBITED" AT 575PP ON SPORTS SOFT TIRES. Most of the cars will need to have the power limiter dialed back a few percent to get to the 575pp mark (this is allowed under the "Tuning Prohibited" restriction, as is the adjustment of brake balance). All 6 cars are FR drivetrain and will be run on Sports Soft tires. These cars have been tested against each other and have proven to be very close on pace and create some very entertaining racing.Hopefully all drivers will be able to find a car that suits their driving style and allows them to thoroughly enjoy the event(s).

*Note* If you don't have any of these cars the RX-7 TC (DLC) will be allowed as a substitute.

THE RACES

These will be special races meant to be only for fun; no points, no strict schedules and loose guidelines instead of hard-and-fast rules. However, all participants will still be expected to follow the GTP Online Racing Rules and drive as a gentleman. Our core group is very dedicated to clean and friendly racing as well as stiff competition.

The two races will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 8:00 pm EST and Saturday, January 12th at 3:00pm EST (GMT-5). Everyone is allowed to participate in both races and we hope the Saturday time slot will allow some of our friends from across the pond to participate. There will be no points awarded but the winner of each race will receive the car of their choice from the New Car Dealership up to $1,000,000cr.

These races (and practice sessions) will take place in the ORCA Champ Private Lounge (send PSN friend request to "ORCA_Champ"). Practice sessions will be scheduled at the same times (Tuesdays at 8pm EST and Saturdays at 3pm EST (GMT-5) and will consist of hot-lapping and short 5-8 lap races so we can all get acquainted with the cars.

RACE FORMAT

On race days the lounge will open approx. one hour before the listed times for an open practice session. Qualifying will start at the posted times of 8pm(Tues.) and 3pm EST(Sat.) and will last for 10 minutes. All cars will be on track at once so we ask that everyone be courteous and give everybody plenty of room. If you are off the pace please allow faster cars to pass unimpeded. Once qualifying has begun everyone must stay on the track or in the pits or the game will reset your time (which means you will likely start from the back of the field). After qualifying is completed we will do 4 lap Heat Race with the fastest driver from qualifying starting on the pole. Immediately following the Heat Race we will hold a 20 lap Feature Race with Reverse Grid and while pitstops will not be mandatory the tire wear setting will be high enough that at least one will be necessary. Both Tuesday and Saturday races will follow this format.

SUMMARY

• ALL CARS WILL BE RUN WITH "TUNING PROHIBITED" AT 575PP ON SPORTS SOFT TIRES. All drivers are free to choose from any of the 6 approved cars listed above.

• The two races will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 8:00 pm EST and Saturday, January 12th at 3:00pm EST (GMT-5).

• 4 lap Heat Race with the fastest driver from qualifying starting on the pole. Immediately following the Heat Race we will hold a 20 lap Feature Race with Reverse Grid

• These races (and practice sessions) will take place in the ORCA Champ Private Lounge (send PSN friend request to "ORCA_Champ").

• Damage: Light
• Grip: Real
• Tire/Fuel Wear: Fast

RULES:
1. Drive as clean and respectful as possible. Try to avoid contact with fellow racers.
2. No hitting, ramming, corner cutting, or intentional blocking allowed.
3. Accidents do happen. If you knock someone off course allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait till another corner.
5. NO DIVE-BOMBING (to the inside OR outside)
6. Bump drafting is discouraged. Drivers should make the pass when possible and NOT work as a team to open a gap on the field. Make your pass and let the cards fall where they may. This ensures the drivers further back have a chance to catch up to the leaders if they should make a mistake.
7. Drivers are expected to keep at least 2 wheels on the track at all times.
8. Blocking is not permitted. You get one move to choose your line and then you must hold it. You can not swerve back to your original line.
9. Rage quitting is frowned upon
10. Drivers must stay in the pits during the race countdown
11. Please keep chat box and mic chatter to a minimum during qualifying and racing.
12. Spread out on your warmup lap during qualifying. Try to keep10-15 car lengths between you and other drivers at all times. If you're not on a hot lap let faster drivers by.
13. There must be at least 6 people in attendance to have a points race. If there are fewer than 6 people that race will be canceled.
14. And of course please follow the GTPlanet Online Rules

I like the heat race idea, should bring back a bit of what I liked with the old reverse grid.
Now I need to pick a car.

Can you put me down as reserve for the saturday races please?

I'm in as always. I will sign up for both, but will maybe make one of the dates.

I have even obtained most of the cars now, with exception to one of the Audis.

As of right now, should be able to make both... I'll probably be representin' for Audi.

GTP ID: Naptown25rs / PSN ID: NCemtB / Racing on: Both

Hope you can make it! I'd recommend the TT-R, I have a feeling the A4 might be slightly slower even though the specs between the two are nearly identical. If the A4 does turn out to be a smidgen slower I think I'll encourage Carr and Marcus to pilot it so the rest of us can have a fighting chance. :sly:

I will definitely try for both dates, but will be more likely to make the Saturday event.

Hope you can make it Ace! Are you guys expecting the blizzard today too? I haven't seen how far east it's going to go so not sure if you'll see much of it but we're supposed to get up to 10" today with 40mph winds. So far it's just windy with enough snow to cover everything but nothing major. I'm just considering it Mother Nature's birthday present to me! :dopey:

Ugh... I'm at work today. Enough said...

My kids are jealous of you lot getting snow; Santa brought them a sledge last year and we still haven't had any snow.

So am I, my Subaru is in the parking lot wondering why we aren't out doing Scandinavian Flicks!

Do you guys really call it a "sledge" over there? Here it's known as a "sled". We had no snow last year, so I've been waiting nearly two years for this! :dopey:

Get back to work you two! No slacking on the interwebs.

Sledge, sleigh or toboggan (if you're posh!). It's raining here, so we're all indoors watching The Grinch and eating chocolate.

Anyone got a target time for GP/F? Just so I know how far off the pace I am!

I can't recall of the top of my head what the lap times were, but I think I have a replay from a few weeks ago I can check for you when I return home.

Merry Christmas, fellas. Good to see that the new thread is up. I'll register at a later date. Hope to make both dates, but will know better when I'm back home.

I want to say right around 2:00 would be an average time, plus/minus :02

Yeah, I thought I had a replay from GP/F from that day we ran a few 575pp races, but all I have is GVE, Tokyo, and Indy Road. If I get a chance later on I'll run a few laps and see where I'm at.

Nice snow 👍

This may be a stupid question but will doing donuts in a 4WD with a center differential hurt the drivetrain? I guess it would only be a little bit more heat, not enough to hurt anything.

On snow/gravel it's fairly harmless. On the tarmack it could.

What DSG said. The real danger is burning up your power steering if you stay at full lock too long.

I'm waaaay too slow then - a smidgen under 2:07 is the best I can manage in the Audi.

I'll keep practicing...

TDZdave/ TDZ-4-12-14-88/ currently both,

just wondering if the Alfa Romeo STC was considered for the car list as it was a DTM car in its day?

but I do love the current car list,

I think I might have been around 2:05. Which Audi are you using?

TDZdave/ TDZ-4-12-14-88/ currently both,

just wondering if the Alfa Romeo STC was considered for the car list as it was a DTM car in its day?

but I do love the current car list,

I'd love to run the Alfa but it's AWD and has much less power than these six cars so there was no good way to balance them. However, there are a few other AWD race cars in the PP range of the Alfa (Calibra TC and Cusco Impreza are two I can remember) and I've considered using those for the next go-round. I've wanted to race that Alfa since I first laid eyes on it! Looking forward to racing with you Dave. 👍

Unfortunately, I never had a chance to do any driving last night. I'll try to hop in this evening as well, likely round the same time.
