Not so different from Australia. In the very near past we had poor human rights and little regard for minorities. In some areas it's arguable that still exists.

Fair enough and yes, it does still exist sadly. Especially considering the fact that there's less interest in the country and more interest in the cities (in reference to neglect for remote Aboriginal communities).
As for minorities and migrants, We've gone from one extreme (excessive prejudice towards the past migrants who contributed towards building this nation) to the other (tolerance towards modern migrants regardless of contribution and even wrongdoing)

With Australia Day being today, there is massive controversy surrounding the date and people want it to be changed.

Any thoughts on it?

As someone who just treats Australia Day as any other day, I don't necessary care if the date gets changed however, I do like to think of Australia Day as a day to celebrate Australia now and look back on how we are far better than what we once were. Not celebrating White Australian Policy and discrimination etc. I know people will think differently on what Australia Day means but in my opinion it doesn't seem logical to change the date just because of someones interpretation of it.

For any non-Australians reading, Australia Day is Jan 26 because that is the day in 1788 that the first fleet of English settlers/convicts landed. To the indigenous people, this is invasion day, and not to be celebrated. I dont see this argument going away any time soon.
However, if the date is changed, we need to pick an alternate that has significance to the country. My first thought is the date of Federation, when we declared independence from England. Problem is that this date is Jan 1, which is not going to happen. ANZAC Day is probably more recognised patriotically, but that doesn't sit well with me as a national day. Much better as a remembrance day as it is now. Can't think of any other days of national significance to use...

Tl;dr - Got no problem with it being changed, but when to?

I don't know, I feel like moving the date with divide the indigenous people from others even further than what this has, as change is not something people like handling.

Granted changing the date is a far better movement than getting rid of it all together.

However, it's not like the indigenous aren't included in the celebrations, there's been a lot of response to the criticism in including indigenous activities as apart of the celebration. People just don't like the date.

20 April or 29 April.

20 April was the date Cook and the Endeavour first sighted Australia (though the date was incorrectly recorded as 18 April).

29 April was the date the crew of the Endeavour first made landfall at Botany Bay. The contact with the local indigenous people was fairly amicable; Cook tried to offer gifts and left beads as a sign of friendship.

No matter which day it's changed to, it's celebrating the birth of a country that was formed by steamrolling over the native population so there really is no day that is going to satisfy everyone no matter what. I'd just leave it the same.

History is History, changing the day doesn't change that dispite what happened.

Whether we like it or not the foundations of Australia that we know today started that day.

Whether you dispise what happened that day or celebrate it, it's all valid there was more to it then invasion and more to it then bringing modern civilization to the land.

What bothers me more than the sign is that there clearly have been several instances of prople falling over while jogging on the beach to warrant the sign.

Yeah so this sign is in effect At Bondi Beach in Sydney:

The Nanny state is strong with this one.
Please tell me this is a joke.

If it is, best joke. If not, what the 🤬 I thought our primary schools were bad on safety regulations.

So just like how there are a million warning stickers on literally everything in America because someone had actually done what is warned against?

You wear a helmet everywhere you go don't you? Because, clearly, you can slip and fall anywhere.

Gosh, that sounds very familiar...

I doubt he'll last long. He's been riding the Libs' coat-tails for a while, but now that he has to go it alone, I think he's going to learn the hard way that Australians don't think much of him. After all, he did claim that it's a short path from tolerating homosexuality to tolerating bestiality, and that single mothers are to blame for the rise in criminality among boys and promiscuity among girls.

I don't know. If people believed some of Trumps unrealistic ideals, I'd imagine some people might actually believe him.

Trump had a media profile before he got elected. The most Bernardi was known for was getting roasted by Carrie Bickmore on "The Project" after his comments about single mothers.

At what point do we consider Nuclear energy?

SA for all the benefit of trying to use as much wind power as possible has failed miserably with unrealiblilty of energy stabilty from it and is now effecting our entire national electrical grid, our prices are going through the roof as it is and our country is far too hot in summer to allow this to happen.

We are in an ideal country to have nuclear due to our stable weather and lack of earth quake activity it really should be considered at this point.

You'd think considering it's Australia that solar power would be the obvious choice.

How do you power your air conditioners and charge your Priuses when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing?

It's Australia. The sun is almost always shining. And when it isn't, we build up a reserve of solar power because we get that much sun.

Well it is not shining least 50% of the time, so I would say that pretty much disqualifies "almost always".
