Next Thursday at my local vue for me
This movie was so bad it was good. The acting is awful, but it's a great Kaiju flick. Totally cliche and predictable. Totally del Toro.
Dialogue was unintelligible at times. You could probably kill all the dialogue and just make the actors make noises in their accents and it would convey just as much meaning.
I don't know how they'd make a sequel beyond just new robots and new monsters (but how?) fighting in new ways. Maybe in a volcano instead of Hong Kong bay. Maybe in the desert.
I laughed my ass off at multiple parts of the movie that weren't set up to be jokes. But that's what's great about del Toro. If he did those things on purpose, he's a genius. 3 cheers if you thought Lt. Mr. Kaidonovsky is the Siberian version of Brad (Casio). Hilarious.
There's a reason for the stupid hair: he and his wife don't actually have any dialogue. Mrs. Kaidanovsky does speak when their Jaeger is fighting off the coast of Hong Kong, but her face is obscured by a mask. The platinum-blond hair is so that the audience can identify them as the Russian pilots when they are in a room full of people.
OK, maybe not Brad. But the hair was so ridiculous that I laughed whenever he was on screen.
Yes, but that would mean that there is less time for Charlie Hunman to not act.Re: Crimson Typhoon. What a stupid robot design. It only has three arms. One triplet for each arm:
Anyway, you'd think that two of the twins would have leg and arm duties, while the other one would separately control an extra PAIR of arms, but, you know, that would make way too much sense. They could've been Char Siu Goro. Also, might as well have made the one without leg duties a paraplegic. Maybe he tried to drift with Crimson Typhoon alone while it was still under construction. The Chinese government was still waiting for the Americans to finish Gypsy Danger so they could copy its legs. Hence, when Bro #3 interfaced with the incomplete Jaegar, he forgot how to use his legs since the robot didn't yet have any. SEE? I just came up with an awesome backstory within minutes! There's so much that could've been done to make it better.
I think prequels are generally bad ideas, because no matter what happens, there is a status quo that has to be met by the end of the film. Events have to play out in such a way that all of the characters are in a pre-determined position for the beginning of the next film. The ending is a foregone conclusion, so there is no risk of sense of danger involved.I think a prequel could very well be made too. I wanna see the very beginning of the Kaiju attack. More backstory!
Del Toro has commented on the angle he'd go for if a sequel happens:I don't know how they'd make a sequel beyond just new robots and new monsters (but how?) fighting in new ways. Maybe in a volcano instead of Hong Kong bay. Maybe in the desert.
I meant the classic Japanese Kaiju movie - man in rubber suit and miniature props - given a million dollar budget production and CGI equals a dream come true.
Is it extra expensive on opening night? Did you watch it in IMAX 3DDD? Or are movie tickets priced that way in Australia?
My ticket only cost me 9 bucks local, that's 3.08 AUD
Anyway, gonna watch it again tomorrow. Reason being I took a couple of toilet breaks in between and missed some parts. Also partly because I just want to watch it again.
Has anyone watched this on IMAX 3D?
Del Toro has confirmed Pacific Rim 2 is being written by the way.
Speaking of which, anyone know the UK DVD release?
