I watched it last night, wasn't expecting much to be honest except that I like Transformers and thought it would be similar?

Long build up to the end, and then it all seems to happen right away. Plot points I was going to talk about have already been stated above (and more!) so I just won't go there.

I'm sure it would have been great to see in 3D IMAX, but my main problem was that all of the battles were in the dark. Would have been nice to have a day fight as well to really see all of the Kaiju and Jaeger details.

I finally got around to seeing this. The CG is awesome. The props were awesome. Even that giant wall clock was super cool.

However, throughout the first half of the film, I kept thinking to myself (spoilers below):

Why the hell are they wasting so much energy throwing fists in their faces? These Kaijus have tough skin-I'd almost say it's more like armor even. Throwing blocks of metal isn't an efficient use of energy. If anything, they should be aiming for more vulnerable spots. The mouth was the most obvious example as these things sure didn't like to keep them shut. I was waiting for them to either unload the plasma cannon or run a large knife into the roof of their mouths... I kind of called it. It took 'em real long to finally pull out blades, and a tongue got torn out...[/spoiler]

Yeah you kinda watch a movie like this for the visual spectacle.

I did. I most certainly did. I also like to think how conflicts should be resolved...Watching them punch Kaijus looked pretty useless to me honestly.* Would you rather see a bank robber get into the vault by chiseling out an opening for 4 hours or would you rather see him blow off the door with explosives?

*Maybe that's just me because I've grown up watching martial arts films.

The Kaiju blood is incredibly toxic, so they had to kill them with blunt trauma or cauterise the wound to avoid damage to the local environment.

In that case Gypsy Danger should have run the risk of being corroded in the sky by Otachi or rusted under the sea by the fat Kaiju thing.

Then they could've and IMO should've used a sword, or even a large knife of proportional scale instead of punching Kaijus from the get go. The Kaijus reacted quick enough to punches so that should've been an indication for those guys to start thinking of something new. Sure took them a while.

That's all I'm saying.

I turned off this movie half way through. I love me my Sci-Fi. I love that cast. Idris Elba, Stevie Dunham, and Mike friggin FABER?! Love those guys.

Not enough to keep me watching. So boring. The CG was indeed awesome, though.

The Kaiju were adapting to the Jaegers. This is why the 3 armed one was made to fight Crimson Typhoon, and the EMP one to cripple the whole lance. The one with wings was designed to fight in the one place Jaegers can't.

If they used the hot sword from the get-go, the Kaiju would have evolved an adaptation to counter it, and made their best weapon useless. As it stood, blunt trauma punches were enough until then.
