[PC] DCS 1.5 & 2.0 Open Alpha

I've considered buying one, but in the end you can get a fairly decent HOTAS for 50 bucks.

Yeah I've seen other ones, and the warthog is insanely expensive, but I know if I get into it I won't be happy with anything less. Although there are a few other less expensive but probably equally good options.

Playing War Thunder with a mouse saves me from splashing out on DCS for now.

I was just thinking; to hold online games, how are we going to organize ourselves? The DCS system is weird. If I were to post my DCS username it wouldn't help anyone in finding me in-game as there is no search. I'm afraid we'll need some sort of outside program to arrange this like Skype for example. Help me figure this out as we should have some sort of user log on the thread.

Either Skype or the new conversation system.

I went to look at the online and it shows a list of all the rooms, there's only about 50, we could find it if it was named "GTP".
And with a messaging system we could all say "Go to Euro Battle Extreme room", and then form up in game.

I'm loving this Su-25, so simple compared to the A-10.

But when you're navigating, if the little circle is to the right then you go to the right to centre it, but in landing mode it's the complete opposite.:odd:

The circle (correctly called the "Flight Director") has to be set to airdrome you are landing at. Every airport has a different number. To get that dot to guide you you have to enter the correct digit(s) for the airfield. To get it to work you must have contacted the tower at that airfield and you must be on the correct glide path if any of those are off it will lead you elsewhere - at least that's what I've figured out. It's a real gimmick that you shouldn't bother with, besides only like 7 airports have it fully implemented. Just land visually.

Thanks.:)

It was in the training missions, so I got confused when the director started to do the opposite of what it did before.

But if I can get to that point then I can see the strip anyways I guess.

I think it's best to use the conversation feature because there is an in-game chat feature anyways, and this way it reduces the amount of hassle.
It'd just be to set stuff up anyways.

I should be done all the training in a few days depending on my schedule.👍

Nice.

I spent a few hours () configuring my joystick key combinations/bindings for online use.

I have 5 layers of key configurations (using LShift, LCtrl, LWin, LAlt as modifiers) on my 4 button stick. It has become pretty confusing but once I get used to it I'll never have to touch my keyboard again in combat.

That's what it's like trying to set up the A-10, even with an X52.:scared:

Holy jesus, I don't think I could cope with the lack of buttons, I even have the start of a button box that I need switches for.

I really want to use my extra monitor for the TV screen though, would be so awesome to be able to actually look over and track targets.

That's really clever but there would be some coding involved I would imagine. Definitely not worth it in my opinion :D

Make Steam group, we join the Steam group, use the chat room? I think whoever is the group admin can set it so anyone can make an announcement so any of us on Steam at the time the announcement is made will get a pop up message.

You can do that in the options, I can set it so I have the MFDs or Shkval on my left and right monitor and cockpit view in the middle, but I prefer three cockpit windows. You can use coding to change the sizes though, that's how people do 'real MFDs; they resize the MFD window to make it tiny, place a Thrustmaster MFD over the LCD then mask the rest, the result being that you have buttons you can press that instantly control the in-game MFD. It's awesome but difficult and expensive.

I hate to admit it but I've never used steam. I never bought any games so I can't use my account. It's been sitting there abandoned on my desktop for months now. I'm going to figure out how to use it.

Edit:

Steam page up: GTPlanet/DCS Community Page

You've got it set to invite only. I assumed you were playing DCS World on Steam, you should be able to redeem the codes for your modules (as long as Black Shark 2 upgrade isn't one of them), but I'm not sure if there's any real benefit to doing so; I don't know if it makes playing together any easier, but it might. That's one of the big attractions of Steam, after all, but it doesn't apply to all games.

So do I need to get DCS World for Steam now?

Or can we just use it to set up a game and then I can go to my separate DCS World and join from there?

I know, but what I'm asking is what time you can be online to fly.

Like, in the morning? The evening?

Weekends (if I don't have work) and weekday evenings if I don't have work.

Edit: I currently can't use the chat feature or add you guys as friends until I buy a game on steam. This is frustrating..

Wow, that's ridiculous. Maybe Steam's not such a great idea after all... Though they did recently have a very good sale on DCS: World DLC, I think I paid £7 for the Huey module which is a pretty good discount from the usual $50, and the Flaming Cliffs planes were something like £2.50 each, which is not bad.

I got A-10C for 16 bucks.:D

@terminator363
I came across that 2nd video in the OP while on Youtube, really cool stuff.
Now I can imagine rolling treetop level at 400 knots while doing combat radio stuff, so exciting!

This is frustrating, the top options bar covers up the menu choices.

It didn't happen with A-10 standalone, and I've tried a reinstall. I can't find anything on line about it either.

Suggestions?

I've never experienced that, it may just be a bug for the resolution you are using. Quick tip, if you want your game to look like the one in the second video turn HDR to "Cold Colors"

I hope to be able to join you guys in another month or two. By then I should have a PC that won't assplode when it tries to run this game.

Yay, by that time I may be able to engage a SAM site without getting blown to bits.

How are you supposed to find targets in this game?
I KNOW where they are from the briefing, and from when they fire at me, but I am rarely able to actually find them with enough distance to be able to attack. It's near impossible of they are in the forest unless I get lucky with a Shkval lock.

Edit:

What am I, a moving R-60 practice target?

^ Inside jokes FTW. We need more people playing!

I'm trying to go through the tracks to see if I can find the moment when you decided to "try out" a heat seeker while I was on approach. The little brake check made up for it though.:P

And yeah, once we get better at formation flying at least.

Edit: I made use of my second monitor and it's now a full size Shkval screen.
I have to adjust it to make it a perfect square, but right now it's way easier to keep a bearing when you can just look up quick irl instead of having to zoom out and pan up.

That's so cool, can you post pics? (It would be twice as cool if it was an old CRT screen for added authenticity ).

Sure, give me a few minutes. (Or more, I may make a video.)

It works perfect in single player, but in multiplayer it slides everything on the main monitor up about a 1/5 of the way. No idea why.

Edit: Whoop whoop.
