A geomagnetic storm is on the forecast for September 12th or 13th(EST time) and will last "more than an hour", due to a Class X solar flare released today. PD may not have power or internet connection when they try to upload 1.12 on Friday. Kaz, if you or any of your ninja spies are out there, you might have a technical problem if you try to upload the update in the day time.

Wont the storm only affect the place of the planet that happens to be in its path when it hits? Based of entirely logic, not science, so correct me if i'm wrong.

Erm, the spot released by the sun will spread out to be much larger in diameter than the Earth. But it isn't strong enough to affect the night time side, only the half that is exposed to the sun.

In any event, they dont exactly launch an update from the PD building or office block. . . .
And where its uploaded from Im sure has effective shielding from such an event.
OP, not sure if serious. . . .

If you don't believe me research it. :)

I wouldn't worry about solar magnetic storm affecting update schedule. September 12th or 13th EST would mean that it'll be around midnight 12th or Saturday in Japan.

I am worried about the storm that Japan has since yesterday. Multiple floods in major populated areas including Tokyo. Storm alerts continues now and the forecast says probably continue for tomorrow as well.

Yeah thats what i meant

Kaz now works in Fukuoka, it's far away from any issues in Kanto.

It will happen the 12th of 13th in EST... the EST here is the designate the date in a unified time zone so that there is 23 hours of error correction, it's not saying that it will hit the Americas. :) We don't know what part of the world it will affect, we just know that it will probably disrupt our electronics in someway within the next few days. I just hope it doesn't affect the US or India between 11-3 AM and PM :P

Someone said an update is coming this week if not early next. don't hold me to that it's just what people are saying

Yep, what he said, a lot of GTP members have been reporting an imminent update I'm just following their speculation, which supposedly has some facts in it.

Bottom of this news.

Right:cheers:
Even if the update is online, it won't be any good if the receiving end is offline at the time to download it:scared:

You're actually giving PD ideas to delay the update :grumpy:

Yes, we blame the sun.

Lol, and it might actually have truth in it... I don't know when they roll stuff out, but if they try to roll it out at 4 they're going to have to put in some overtime. :P

PD:
"The geomagnetic storm that occurred on Friday corrupted our files for GT6, so we will be discontinuing support and moving on to GT7" -this is a joke. :P Just to clarify.

Even if there's an update on Friday (which we have no reason to suspect), the X1.6 released at 1726 UTC yesterday will not affect a thing unless the update servers are in orbit.

But it should make for some lovely aurorae as far south as 55 degrees, so get out there with your camera. There was an M4 on the 9th too, with an Earthbound CME component, so the 12th should be good for aurora hunters.

Source/citation. Unless it is in an official news release from PD stating a definite date, I would not quote anything as fact. You are just going to mislead people and give them false hope about something there is no definite facts on.

According to comments in the live broadcast, the track and “Quick Match” mode are both set to appear in GT6 update 1.12, slated for release sometime this week. Stay tuned for more details!
That's from the "Sierra Time Rally" article. Then, in the big long "Mapping Zahara" thread, people began speculating as to which day the update would come, and @BadDragonzxD999 noted that that the last five updates have been released on alternating Wednesdays and Fridays, and the hype train unanimously decided that the pattern would continue and the update would be released on this Friday.
Personally, I haven't got a clue as to when 1.12 will come; PD is an enigma.

Well, since there is nothing official from PD stating anything as fact, I prefer not to believe anything then as its all purely speculation and wishful thinking. Thanks for your response and explanation.

It's always something stopping them from releasing updates, isn't it? The sound update was postponed to GT7 due to system limitations, the Senna update was delayed due to rights/licensing issues, and it seems the Zahara update may be delayed due to a special move from Street Fighter: "MAGNETIC... SOLAR STORM!!!"

Roughly how far down is 55 degrees? Basically, I live in Detroit, Michigan USA so will I be able to see this aurorae from here?

Detroit is 42 degrees North. However, the geomagnetic latitude is 52 degrees, due to the location of the magnetic north pole. My home town is 52 degrees North, but the geomagnetic latitude is 51 degrees.

If the predicted polar storm occurs (up at 80% now) and you can get away from city lights, yes. You'll need a Planetary K-Index of around 6 or 7 - which is pretty strong (normal is 0, 1-3 is quiet, 4-6 is moderate, 7-9 is severe) and something a CME from an X-ray flare is capable of generating. It's actually at 4 at the moment, probably due to the M-class flare on 9th.

Ah, alright then. Thanks for the reply and educational bit, much appreciated.
