People think GT5 will ship with 800 cars. Things could get ugly.

I don't dissagree with that Black Chamber, not at all. I was just pointing out that PD did down size that part of the game like that in this series :sly:.

Always has to be one! :D

Yes, I do know it. I'm also sure they know how annoyed their customers were at the down size.

They always will, it didn't stop people buying it or GT4, but the dis-concerns will still be heard.

The way I see it, GT5:P is like a GT3 for PS3. I expect GT5 to have more than 300 cars for sure, but 800 or more? I find it unlikely.

Some people are also forgetting that, although GTPSP will allegedly have more cars than GT4, they will be of a lower quality, so take that in mind also. Four cars in one race, that's also another thing to consider. Quality before quantity. ;)

As long as most (more than half) of the cars in GT5 are cars I will truly like and drive, I see no point in having over 1000 cars. To me, that is. Over 50 Skylines in GT4 didn't meant nothing to me, along with Subaru Imprezas and Lancer Evolutions. Almost every japanese car in GT4 isn't in my garage. I've only have 4, and I barely drive them. It says a lot in my case.

Here's an idea:

GT5 may not have all the cars that GT PSP has, but the missing cars will eventually be released as DLC.

Those who have GT PSP can download the cars for free, but others will have to pay for the DLC. It's not terribly unfair, and it acts as a nice incentive to buy both GT5 and GT PSP.

Though I personally think that GT5 will ship with a great many vehicles. At least 500, if not the full 800+ of GT PSP.

I think that GT5 will have like 500 cars, 600 if they have a lots of similar/different livery racing cars. Thats a titanic job, Forza 3 and GT5 are way ahead of the competition in modelling effort, its an amazing job doing more than 200 cars with cockpit view included.

If GT5 choose its atleast 500 cars well (with Ferrari and Lamborghini) its going to be a killer list too, i dont mind lots of skylines/lancers in GT4 but i always felt so dissapointed for not having the F40, the Diablo or the Mclaren F1 (plus other lots of exotic cars i love).
After GT4 i was so dissapointed with the saga, now with Ferrari, Lamborghini, multiplayer mode and a more dinamic attitude of Polyphony Digital to evolve the saga and fix old problems/issues (16 cars, atleast some damage, a bit better ai) im feeling that is going to be a great game.

Kudos to PD if they get more than 500 cars, also im going to be amazed if they get the 800 that some people are hopping.

Also the unlockable cars from GTPSP aside and i know there is a rearview mirror in most of these cars, i wonder if the PSP will act as a rearview mirror ( nah it wouldn't happen would it ? ).

Yeah, 150 cars down from GT2's 650.

But that was early in the lifespan of the PS2 and the whole "Next-Gen" concept was new also. Since then, PD's staff has grown infinitely more adept at making games and the work on GT5 is about done and from what they say it was a pretty smooth ride - meaning they have the PS3 coding down to a science. ;)

So, youre saying that the Old Super nintendo and Segas didnt count as a gaming Generation?

Now, if you are trying to say that it was PD first time developing a game for another Gen of games then, its Ok, and i Doubt they have problems or trouble With PS3 coding, so im Hoping, not expecting 600+ Cars:tup:

Like I said Before, its 5 Years, and thats been a long time, so i think they had modeled 500+ Cars at the moment, if not More, look the Guys at Turn10 did 400+ Cars in only 2 Years, they didnt modeled the cars tho, they outsourced a company, but its possible.

And talking about PD, we know it'll be a quality Product:)

In GT3 there was less number of cars than in GT2 (almost 200 vs about 600) but GT3 came out just 2 years after GT2 and now we are waiting for 5 (!) years... So I think they (PD) had enough time to make more at least 800-900 cars.
It would be a shame if they don't...

Oh you poor young man... You dont know what youre missing... ! :sly::sly:

i think gt5 will have 1000+ cars firstly we have long waited, 5 years.. and personaly i dont think they really need 6 months for car.. so they will suprise as.. and second think that would be first game that breaks 1000cars barierre if i was pd i would do that..

I reckon they will have been working flat out getting the WRC and Nascar sections right. We know they have been working hard on creating the weather. Also i think a considerable amount of effort was put in for new tracks, physics, A.I., damage modelling and other aspects.Nah i reckon as a rough estimate around 850 cars total, it's just speculation. How many tracks were in GT4 ?, can someone remember.

800 cars does seem like a lot. But I reckon that they might use some of the data from the cars in GT4. Even if 800 cars is the case, with a lot of them being used from GT4, how many of those 800 cars will be new?

With the addition of Lamborghini & Bugatti, I'm hoping that at least more than half of the cars be it 600, 800 etc are new editions. I don't mind a few old favorites returning but there are just so many car models that everyone would like to see (hopefully DLC will cover that).

Another thing that got me thinking was the increase of cars on the track from 6 to 16. It must mean there will be a fair few cars as we might be seeing doubles of several cars on the track (PD might do what they did to the F1 car in GTP, having different numbered paint jobs).

For example, if there was a 24HR endurance with 16 cars featured from GT4 there probably wouldn't be enough LMP's to cover the race without throwing in some other non-Le Mans car.
I guess this could go for a few other events, but I'm just wondering about diversity in some of the events.

Well, in any case I'm sure PD will surprise us.

Even though GT3 had less cars than GT2 the game still took me a while to finish. GT4 was even better, taking everything from GT3 and adding 600-ish more cars and some of the most challenging tracks. I just know it will be the most time consuming thing that I'll play this/next year.

The model data for most of these cars was already done a while ago with GT4. Polyphony Digital made advanced models of each car and then tweaked them in respect to the PS2's abilities [resolution, textures and L.O.D. bias]. The PS2 is obviously far, far behind the PS3 in all aspects, so the models had to be scaled down to the appropriate polygon count to allow for everything needed to draw each frame of the screen at all times. Now, with the PS3, they can utilize the full models of all the cars they have been creating over the years. They have files, folders and literally thousands of documents that they keep for every car they create - and they update them as new developments arise to keep each game as up-to-date as possible in the areas of car design, handling, physics and after market parts.

You Win!

Funny reading through this thread. Some good guesswork from a few. The rest can all hang their pessimistic heads in shame! :)

PD's job is to make people not want to do that.:sly:

PD's job is to make a game and get people to buy it, that's it. Sony's job is to drive the xbox sales into the ground ^^

If PD were so worried about Forza so much they would of coppied their auction house, their livery system, their damage system.. pretty much everything. but they haven't they've concentrated on making their own game, the way they want to (what a gaming company should do) rather than concentrating on trying to make competition look inferior

Go buy forza 3.. no one is stopping you :)

that is so right i will buy forza 3... i love racing games so why not have more than one.. i loved forza 2.. so why not have forza 3..
but that said i would also buy gt5.. ,, need for speed shift.. and other racing games..

but like i said i would like a game to have many cars.. but not in the cost of quality.. so its better to have less cars but all would have the same damage and uppgrade settings.. than some have and some havent..

thats all

Well said.

I am sticking to my original theory too. I say we should expect at least 850-900 cars and possibly 1,000+ [not counting car packs released in the future as DLC or $19.99 stand-alone discs].

You know it's possible to squeeze 800 vehicles onto a 1.8 GB PSP UMD, but you think it's impossible to fit 800+ vehicles onto a 50 GB Dual-Layer Blu-Ray Disc? :sly:

I have no doubt that Gran Turismo 5 will feature over 800 cars - possibly over 1,000.

I think everyone will be pleased and in some cases surprised when the final vehicle count is revealed [hopefully soon].

800+ vehicles isn't out of the question - at least not to me. Every iteration of the Gran Turismo series has more vehicles than it's predecessor and this time they have the Blu-Ray storage medium to work with, so space isn't a problem.

But I have followed this series since it's inception and I know that PD will always surprise and delight it's fans with astounding content and tons and tons of vehicles to drive. :)

My crystal ball was working better than expected, I suppose. :sly:

Do I get a cookie? 💡

Now, how do I add a custom avatar? Can anyone help me with this?

My beef is with everyone saying that they can't have all 43 different cars in NASCAR. There's actually only four different cars, with only minuscule differences in performance and styling between them. After that, it's all just the paint job.
