Permanent damage!

This is actually really cool, and something I wish far more games did (rather than the "auto pay" things that Forza and Need For Speed games have used recently).

Really? Seems like pointless menu navigating to me. I'd much prefer an auto repair, even if it bills me for it. Having to do it manually is surely just as tedious as oil changes, more-so if you damage the car often.

Reminds me of DT Racer on the PS2. A terrible game but it did something cool, making damage to your machine actually meaningful in the long run, you had to pay for repairs depending on the level of damage present on the machine.

I saw that too, its great.

I hope it means they tweaked their damage model to something passable

It would be hilarious (but also depressing due to the abysmal damage) to see this on the little 'thingy', though.

They're not, actually. Even if they were I'm entitled to post them as long as I follow the AUP, you are not entitled to tell me to go away because my opinion doesn't match yours.
You do seem negative quite often :P
I do agree with you here though. I really hope there is a auto option...would be as annoying as going to fill it up with fuel or manually changing tires every race. Just a extra step between you and driving. Hope there is a quick way to do it

Are we sure that's not just the chassis reenforce option? Calling it damage is definitely more dramatic.

That would have to be the "Body Rigidity" options. The Body Repair's description sounds more like repairing damage than restoring the chassis/"body".

Agreed. On paper it sounds like a fun option. Not so fun when you have to endlessly navigate menus to repair cars you may have raced that night online. And even worse if it's an on/off switch like chassis repair in GT5. Buy a $Million car, run a few laps not hitting anything and all of a sudden it needs $500k worth of chassis work:tdown:

Off topic, but what caught my attention on that link was :

Course Maker
This feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content

I hadn't heard about that before :embarrassed: Cooooool

Would be nice if there were an option to choose whether you wanted automatic repairs (taken out of race funds) or not.

He does have a point. You always seem to look for flaws.
Without an on/off toggle I too see this as a flaw. I don't want to maintain hundreds of cars in my garage by going through a silly animation. I was hoping they would streamline this stuff by making it optional. It's a complete waste of time after the novelty of the first time wears off. Maybe you want to do this thousands of times over the life of the game, but I'm guessing many of us don't.

Agreed. This is going to be fun once, then more pointless clicking that you have to do after every race.

Anything that should absolutely be done all the time does not result in fun and interesting gameplay. It results in frustration in time wasted doing it, and frustration when you forget to do it. Automate and let us get on with the fun stuff.

@Tornado makes a reasonably interesting point in that it could be worthwhile putting off repairs. But if money is so tight that putting off repairs is an optimal choice, I suspect that it'll just mean that people will be less inclined to drive cars that are expensive to repair. People aren't bad drivers by choice. I mean, everybody has some fun sometimes just crashing into stuff, but generally when you're racing you're not trying to damage yourself. It just happens. Especially when the AI run into you.

So if they're making repairs so expensive that it actually makes you think about spending the money, then it basically locks you out of driving expensive to repair cars. That's not cool, particularly in single player where no one else is affected. Drive what you like and earn a bit less prize money. Repairs should never be more than what you would make from the single race in which you took the damage.

So either repair costs are trivial and should be made automatic, or they're significant and lock you out of driving expensive cars (or make you grind to be able to afford to drive your more expensive cars, or make you drive them at a pace that's so slow that you're not enjoying yourself). I vote for trivial and automatic. Not that it matters what I think, PD have made their choice. But I know which one is a better design choice for people who aren't masochists.

I will say like that we're likely to be paying money to fix our damaged cars, that's a definite positive step towards encouraging cleaner driving. I just don't see the point in taking time to click "fix my car now" when it's a no-brainer. Put a value on it, take it out of race winnings. Job done. If you're really brutal on your car you'll make no money, but you'll never come away from a race with less money than you started and wishing you just hadn't played at all.
